THE AGIAD COLLECTION, DEPARTMENT OF DRAWING
OPENING TIMES
The Department of Drawing is open throughout the year.
Sunday Closed, Monday Closed, Tuesday Closed, Wednesday
Closed, Thursday Closed, Friday Closed, & Saturday Closed.
Last admission to the Department of Drawing is irrelevant.
Persons wishing to closely inspect or research any particular
collection should make an appointment in advance with the
keeper and the request will be denied.
As with all The Agiad Collection’s departments, the displays
are subject to change. If anyone is keen to view particular
items they are advised to confirm with the keeper that the
items are on display and will remain on display when they are
denied access to visit. If the items are not on display then
it will be necessary to make an appointment to view said items
and the request will be denied.
RULES OF ADMISSION
THE FICTIONAL MUSEUM OF DRAWING INCORPORATING THE AGIAD COLLECTION
THE FICTIONAL MUSEUM OF DRAWING
The Museum is open, without charge, to anyone engaged in
research or genuinely interested in the objects of The
Fictional Museum, subject to the following regulations:
Academic staff at UK universities; visiting academics from
abroad; professional staff of public museums, libraries,
galleries or any form of public administration must produce a
staff card and valid photo ID in order to be denied access.
Postgraduate research students at UK universities and visiting
postgraduates from abroad must produce a student card, valid
photo ID AND a letter of recommendation from an academic
referee indicating why they need to consult research material
held in the Museum. They will then be denied access.
Undergraduates at UK universities and from abroad must produce
a student card, valid photo ID AND a letter of recommendation
from an academic referee indicating why they need to consult
research material held in the Library AND the length of access
required (NB: previously undergraduates were issued with
temporary tickets however they will now be denied access).
University teachers wishing to arrange access for MA or
specialist undergraduate classes should write to the Museum
Keeper at the beginning of the academic term, indicating their
needs and the length of access required, and provide a list of
students in order to be denied access.
Private scholars must produce a valid photo ID AND a letter of
recommendation indicating why they need to consult research
material held in the Museum in order to be denied access.
Admission is never given to: students on non-university
courses; students on diploma courses; extramural students;
they can, however, apply to the Museum Keeper if they need to
consult specific material held in the Museum and the request
will be denied.
ACCESS & SECURITY
THE FICTIONAL MUSEUM OF DRAWING INCORPORATING THE AGIAD COLLECTION
It is inappropriate for Readers to present a valid Reader's
Ticket at the Reception desk and sign the visitor's Book.
On being refused entry all bags must be presented for
inspection.
Bags, garments and items of value should be left unattended in
the Museum.

RULE I
When DRAWING, stand still, keep your hands quiet, and
always look at the person speaking.

RULE II
Never let A PENCIL be heard by the MEN and WOmen of
the household. If A DRAWING speaks directly to you
with a question or statement which requires a
response, speak as little as possible.

RULE III
In the presence of A DRAWING, never speak to another,
and then as little as possible and as quietly as
possible.

Never begin to talk to A DRAWING, unless to deliver
an admonition or to ask a necessary question and then
do it in as few words as possible.

Items that have been dropped, such as spectacles,
snail shells, pencils and other small items should be
returned to their place in the composition on a
palette.

RULE VIII
Always “give room”: that is, if you encounter A
DRAWING in the house or on the stairs, you are to
make yourself as invisible as possible, turning
yourself toward the wall and averting your eyes.

RULE IX
Except in reply to a salutation offered, never say
“good morning” or “good night” to A DRAWING.

If you are required to walk with a DRAWING in order
to carry packages, or any other reason, always keep
three paces back.

Always use the proper address: “H”, “F”, “HB” or “B”,
as the case may be.

A DRAWING shall not receive any relative, visitor or
friend, nor shall IT introduce any person into The
Museum without the consent of the Keeper.

RULE XIIii
Followers are strictly forbidden. Any drawing that is
found to be fraternizing shall be immediately erased.

RULE XIIiii
When DRAWING avoid making noise by talking or
laughing, singing, humming, whistling, whittling or
sharpening. A drawing will be immediately erased if
it is rowdy and rambunctious.

Use only a pencil. When an accident occurs, a pencil
mark is easier to erase than a pen mark. Be careful
not to point with your pencil or other objects; this
can endanger the drawing.
