INTRODUCTIO

TRODUCTIO

NThe Prayer Walk is a spiritual journey

into the heart of our deepest selveshellipAnd back out into this world with

a greater understandinghellipOf who we are and who we

are called to be

A walking meditation of solidarityhellipof becominghellipONE

ONE in mindhellipONE in spirit hellip and ONE in heart

It is an invitation to walk in rhythm with ONErsquos breathinghellip

Aware that as you walk as ONE on the journeyhellip

That you become united as ldquoONErdquo with all who share this earth

Many roads and many experiences have led you to this placehellip

So as you stand on the threshold of the holyhellip

You are invited to remove your shoes

Removing your shoes is a very intentional and conscious way of standing stillhellip

Of honoring the sacred that dwells withinhellip

Of honoring the sacred as you journey within

You are invited to stand stillhellipto waithellipto let gohellip

Of all the demands the distractions the noisehellip

Receive the invitationhellip ldquoTo be still and know that I am Godrdquo

As you slowly let go and empty your mindhellip

Consciously envision your heart being opened to Godhellip

Open to becominghellipONE

Breathe slowlyhellipin and outhellipLet gohellipleave all behindhellipBe filled with the life-giving breath

of God as you begin this journey

Look into the faces of the people you meethellip Each ONE has a storyhellip

Allow their story to become your story

As you look into their eyeshellipBe pulled into the heart of anotherhellipWithout bias and without prejudice

In this place and in this moment allow yourself to become ONEhellip

ONE with the Father the Son and the Holy Spirithellip

ONE with our global brothers and sisters

People from around the worldhellipFlow together and meet you herehellipLike the life-giving water of our

baptism uniting us as ONE

There is but ONE pathhellipA continuous journeyhellipInto the heart of who we are

Open Your hearthellipListen to the SpirithellipAllow yourself to be lovingly drawn

along on the path of discipleship

o often in our worldhellipThe least of our brothers

and sistershellipHave become the faceless

and voicelesshellip

People who are forced to walk the path alonehellip

Carrying with themhellipThe burdens of injustice

Knowing only a world of limited resourceshellip

As limiting as the air she breatheshellipCan anyone hear her plea

She can no longer be faceless and voicelesshellip

I can no longer be faceless and voicelesshellip

How I am called to share the journey with others

It only takes One voice to change the worldhellip

Whose voice will it behellipWill it be my voice

S REFLECTION

What burdens do I carry What within me is faceless and voiceless

What do I need to embrace in my life to help give voice to others

How can I speak with One voice of justice on behalf of all people

andshelliprough and callousedhellipHolding on tightlyhellipTo the basic right that flows

from our human dignity

From sun up to sun down working the landhellip

For meager earnings that fail to provide a fair wagehellip

Earnings that fail to provide food on the table

How can this be justhellipto work so hard for so littlehellip

Better prices local sustainability decent conditionshellip

This is not a hand outhellipjust economic justice for all

HREFLECTION

been given to do Do I receive just compensation

As a consumer how do I shop

hese eyes have seen too muchhellipToo much suffering and

too much painhellipEverywhere there is devastation

Looking out from behind the wallhellipBrick and mortar that

was once a schoolhellipLonging to see the faces of family

How could this have happenedhellipNo warning of the

impending disasterhellipEverything that was familiar

is now destroyed

Even though separated by mileshellipAm I able to glimpse into his hearthellipAnd say ldquoI understandhellip

I am with yourdquo

smile says it allhellipOr does ithellipEyes that hold such promise

fail to reflect the reality

A life of disease due to low quality or no quality healthcarehellip

Leaves nothing for us to smile abouthellip

HIV AIDS and malaria invade lives far too young

What does the future hold for the children of the worldhellip

Caught in the cycle of povertyhellipDenied a healthy future

AREFLECTION

How has access to healthcare

helped me to grow and develop

What does the future hold for

children caught in a cycle of poverty

How can I help provide a healthy future

hese are the feet of Jesushelliptired dirty and achinghellip

They just completed a three hour walk to get water for the familyhellip

a trying journey for the most basic of necessities

I look at my feet and I think about the paths that I have walkedhellip

In comfortable well-fitting shoes that keep out the dust and dirthellip

Shoes that walk well-paved roads leading to lifersquos abundance

Nonetheless while the paths we walk may look differentlyhellip

Our journey is the samehellipTo walk humbly with our God

hough enveloped in brightly colored clothhellip

The world seems to be over-shadowed with darknesshellip

as she flees a shattered homeland

Seeking a place to call homehellipA place of acceptancehellipBut finding no open

arms of welcome

Over-crowding racial prejudice and lack of documentationhellip

Become now the war she fights in a new landhellip

Life is hard but not hopelesshellip

Are my arms outstretchedhellipWill I welcome herhellipIs there room in my heart

for those who are homeless

TREFLECTION

From what is it that I flee Where do I seek refuge

How does racial prejudice close the door of welcome

Where is the hope for refugees who

are left homeless

Inter-dependenthellipinter-connected and inter-wovenhellip

Togetherhellipas One

But the light does not shine equally on all peoplehellip

Our global brothers and sisters still live in the shadowshellip

Dark corners of the world where injustice hides

Rearing its ugly head and tearing at the very fabric of lifehellip

Injustice overshadows our call to be One human familyhellip

To stand together in solidarity

Then I hear the invitation to sit downhellip

Around the tablehellipA table with enough chairs for all

It is just a simple mealhellipA sacred meal of bread and winehellipBlessed and consecrated

The final stop on your Prayer WalkhellipThe table where all are fedhellipMade holy by the ONE alone

who is holy

You have a place at this tablehellipA table where your brokenness

is blessedhellipWhere the gift of who you are

is received

The gift of your lifehellipLovingly receivedhellipAnd transformed for a world

struggling for justice

As you have walked and prayed on this journeyhellip

A journey that has taken you into the lives of othershellip

A journey that has led you into the heart of Godhellip

Encountering the struggles of our global brothers and sistershellip

Struggles for survivalhellipstruggles for justicehellip

A prayer surfaces within my being

Where do I beginhellipFor I am just ONE personhellip

How will I put my faith into actionhellipHow am I called to walk in solidarity

In the words of Mother TeresahellipldquoIf you canrsquot feed a hundred peoplehellipthen feed just ONErdquo

INVITED TO PAUSE

YOU ARE

AS YOU STAND BEFORE THE ALTAR

You are not called to change the whole worldhellip

Only a small corner of the world in which you livehellip

To be a sign of hopehellip to be the change you wish to see

Change is only possiblehellipwhen we discover and celebrate

the power of ONEhellipONE body committed to

justice through love

It is in Eucharist that we come to experience the fullness of Christhellip

Where we are strengthened to serve ONE anotherhellip

To stand as ONE body upholding human dignity

You are not alonehellipWe stand together as ONEhellipBegin then with ONE small step

As a sign of solidarityhellipAs a sign of becoming ONE

on the JourneyhellipCome forward and place your

name on the altar cloth

As a pledgehellipAs a covenanthellipAs a promisehellipTo go forth and become a sign of

Godrsquos justice to the worldhellipRejoice in your call to discipleshiphellipWe are ONE on the journey
