Phase I: Phase I elapsed from August 2014 to April 2015 and included four

Components:

Component A. Development of a Sanitation master plan - including

solid and health care waste management taking into consideration

And a minimum package for sanitation in urban and peri-urban areas

comprising:

Construction of CGD friendly school toilets,public toilets,landfill

sites,sludge drying beds going on in 7 cities

Construction of composting and plastic bottles grinding pilot units

to be constructed in Jigjiga

Push Carts and Garbage bins provided by UNICEF

Garbage and Vaccum Trucks to be provided



Phase I

Component B: Design Report including the preparation of comprehensive bill of quantities, drawings and technical specifications for improvement works including for: water source, water intake and treatment works and storage reservoirs and hydraulic design of the pressure line and completed distribution network

Component C: Studies on affordability and willingness to pay, Business Plan preparation (based on the principle of cost recovery and in coordination with the Water Resources Development Fund) and (pro-poor) tariff setting.

Component D. Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposed project water and sanitation activities in the selected towns



Phase IIPhase II started by July 2015 and comprehends the

Supervision of construction works (water supply and sanitation facilities) shall be undertaken both at Urban and Rural level:

• Supervision of Sanitation Works shall focus on institutional, public/communal, solid & liquid waste management in 8 towns. In line with the technical designs, BoQs and technical specifications provided, complete engineering services and contract management shall be provided for related construction activities, in consultation with UNICEF.

• Supervision of Water Works shall focus on 7 towns’ water supplies and resilience water supplies in 25 satellite villages.
