How to use the Benefit Calculator

Under Regular Unemployment Insurance (UI), your weekly benefit amount is determined based on your income (from employment) during your “base” year. The base year is a one-year period made up of the first four of the last five completed quarters. It is based on the date you file your claim application, not the date you become unemployed.

If you don’t qualify for a claim using a regular base year (RBY) you may still qualify for an alternate base year (ABY) using the four most recently completed calendar quarters. A calendar quarter is a 3-month period ending March 31, June 30, September 30 or December 31.

If you qualify for either a RBY or ABY, you must file a Regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim.

To determine whether you may qualify for regular UI benefits, please use the benefit calculator and enter your earnings during the quarters specified. After you have entered your earnings, select Click Here to Estimate Your Payments to see your potential weekly benefit amount. The benefit calculator will check your potential eligibility under both a RBY and ABY claim.
