Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church
The Italian Parish of Indianapolis
B envenuto! Welcome to Holy
Rosary Church! Whether you
are a lifelong parishioner, a first-
time visitor to our parish, or
someone in between, we are
grateful you have joined us today.
Founded in 1909 as the Italian
Parish of Indianapolis, we continue
to serve as the parish home of
people of Italian heritage and also
embrace all Catholics in union with
Rome, including those devoted to
the Traditional Latin Mass
(Extraordinary Form) and the
Anglican Usage of the Roman Rite.
In the words of our founding
pastor, Msgr. Marino Priori:
“The church is the temple of the
Lord, the gate of heaven. Come
after a week of earthly cares, after
so much toil, after so many
sorrows, after so much pain. Rest
your limbs. Regenerate your spirit
at the sources of grace. Raise your
mind to God; thank Him for the
benefits received through His
creation and in daily life; ask for
strength so you can win all of life’s
struggles, and be able to possess
the fruits of redemption.”

At this time, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis is limiting the size of congregations in its churches; therefore, we are re-quiring advance signups for indoor Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. A link to the online signup site will be emailed weekly to parishioners who subscribe to our parish email notification service.
CONFESSIONS: AFTER each weekday and Saturday morning Mass, or by appointment.
RECITATION OF THE ROSARY: English — Saturday at 4:15 p.m.; Sunday at 9 a.m. & 11 a.m.; Spanish — after 11:30 Sunday Mass.

tionally, 30 percent of all sales from our parish will

Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.).
Archbishop Thompson has dispensed the faithful
from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass until Aug.
15.
The archbishop requests that all Catholics in the
Archdiocese of Indianapolis attend Mass and other
services ONLY in their home parishes until June

and communicate in advance with those who will
attend.
At Sunday Masses, there will be a basket in the
center aisle of church to collect your weekly dona-
tions to the parish. Please have your donations
ready when you arrive to church, as this basket will
be removed shortly after Mass begins. Donations for
today’s designated second collection, the Education
of Future Archdiocesan Priests, should also be
placed in this basket; please be sure to put those do-
nations in a separate envelope. (You can also donate
to the parish and to all second collections via our

L ast week we celebrated Pentecost and today, just one week later, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity.
This is because:
The One whom the Father has sent into our hearts, the Spirit of His Son, is truly God. Consubstantial with the Fa-
ther and the Son, the Spirit is inseparable from them, in both the inner life of the Trinity and His gift of love for the
world. In adoring the Holy Trinity, life-giving, consubstantial, and indivisible, the Church’s faith also professes the
distinction of persons. When the Father sends His Word, He always sends His Breath. In their joint mission, the
Son and the Holy Spirit are distinct but inseparable. To be sure, it is Christ who is seen, the visible image of the
invisible God, but it is the Spirit who reveals Him (Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 689).
We see this truth in the name “Christ,” “Jesus the Christ,” “Jesus Christ.” “Christ” means “the anointed one.” Jesus is
the anointed one because He is anointed with the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the anointed one because He is anointed with the
Spirit by the Father.
When we speak of God, we of course speak in terms that we can understand from our experience. However there is
within the Trinity and at the heart of the Trinity an intimate loving relation between the Father and the Son and the
Holy Spirit.
As St. John reminds us in his Epistle, “God is Love,” and it is because He is perfect love within Himself that He ex-
tends to us in the Son and through the Holy Spirit a share in that love:
He, then, gives us the “pledge” or “first fruits” of our inheritance: the very life of the Holy Trinity, which is to
love as “God [has] loved us.” This love (the “charity” of 1 Cor. 13) is the source of the new life in Christ, made
possible because we have received “power” from the Holy Spirit (CCC, No. 735).
St. Augustine speaks of the Father being perfect Love, and as perfect Love giving all that He is as a Gift; and that
Gift which is everything of the Father, is the Son. Being all things that the Father is, including perfect Love, the Son
expresses that Love by returning all divine perfection to the Father as a gift. Since these things happen in eternity, that
Love between the Father and the Son persists at all times and is the Holy Spirit. When this perfect Love is shared with
us, we experience true Charity and are then meant to share this Charity with others.
It is the distinction between the three persons of God that make this loving relationship possible. In order to under-
stand the distinctions between the Persons of the Trinity more fully, the Church developed the Quicumque or Athana-
sian Creed, which traditionally was recited as part of the Divine Office on Trinity Sunday. I encourage you to read the
Athanasian Creed, which can be found elsewhere in this bulletin.

THE ATHANASIAN CREED
Dating back to the fourth or fifth century, the Athana-
sian Creed — also known as the “Quicumque” — is one
of the approved statements of the truths of the Faith and
the earliest creed in which the equality of the Three Per-
sons of the Trinity is explicitly stated. Modern scholarship
indicates that it was not written by St. Athanasius, but its
expressions and ideas reflect his influence. Some scholars
think it may have been written or revised by St. Ambrose.
Traditionally, the Athanasian Creed was recited as part
of the Divine Office on Trinity Sunday.
W HOEVER WILLS to be in a state of salvation, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catho-
lic* faith, which except everyone shall have kept whole and undefiled without doubt he will perish
eternally.
Now the catholic faith is that we worship One God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confounding the
Persons nor dividing the substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, another of the
Holy Spirit. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, is One, the Glory equal, the
Majesty coeternal.
Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit; the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated,
and the Holy Spirit uncreated; the Father infinite, the Son infinite, and the Holy Spirit infinite; the Father eter-
nal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet not three eternals but one eternal, as also not three
infinites, nor three uncreated, but one uncreated, and one infinite. So, likewise, the Father is almighty, the Son
almighty, and the Holy Spirit almighty; and yet not three almighties but one almighty.
SO THE FATHER IS GOD, the Son God, and the Holy Spirit God; and yet not three Gods but one God. So the
Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Spirit Lord; and yet not three Lords but one Lord. For like as we
are compelled by Christian truth to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be both God and Lord; so are we
forbidden by the catholic religion to say, there be three Gods or three Lords.
The Father is made of none, neither created nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone, not made nor cre-
ated but begotten. The Holy Spirit is of the Father and the Son, not made nor created nor begotten but proceed-
ing. So there is one Father not three Fathers, one Son not three Sons, and Holy Spirit not three Holy Spirits.
And in this Trinity there is nothing before or after, nothing greater or less, but the whole three Persons are co-
eternal together and coequal.
So that in all things, as is aforesaid, the trinity in Unity and the Unity in Trinity is to be worshipped. He
therefore who wills to be in a state of salvation, let him think thus of the Trinity.
BUT IT IS NECESSARY TO ETERNAL SALVATION that he also believe faithfully the Incarnation of our Lord
Jesus Christ. The right faith therefore is that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
is God and Man.
He is God of the substance of the Father begotten before the worlds, and He is man of the substance of His
mother born in the world; perfect God, perfect man subsisting of a reasoning soul and human flesh; equal to
the Father as touching His Godhead, inferior to the Father as touching His Manhood.
Who although He be God and Man yet He is not two but one Christ; one however not by conversion of the
Godhead in the flesh, but by taking of the Manhood in God; one altogether not by confusion of substance but
by unity of Person. For as the reasoning soul and flesh is one man, so God and Man is one Christ.
Who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, sits at
the right hand of the Father, from whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. At whose coming all
men shall rise again with their bodies and shall give account for their own works. And they that have done
good shall go into life eternal, and they who indeed have done evil into eternal fire.
THIS IS THE CATHOLIC FAITH, which except a man shall have believed faithfully and firmly he cannot be in
a state of salvation.
*— “catholic” to be understood as meaning “apostolic” or “universal.”
