WORSHIP IS: Experiencing God’s honest love for us, Hearing God’s call upon our lives, Responding with our lives in praise and service…. WELCOME TO STILL WATERS February 27 & 28, 2016 Series: The Cost of Discipleship Sermon: The Call to Discipleship Mark 2:13-14 Then Jesus went out to the lakeshore again and taught the crowds that were coming to him. As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed him. Luke 9:57-62 As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.” But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” He said to another person, “Come, follow me.” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.” Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.” But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” "Only he who believes is obedient, and only he who is obedient believes. Obedience and faith go hand in hand.” Food for thought: What do you think is necessary for faith to be possible? What are the obstacles to be overcome if we are to follow Jesus Christ as disciples? What “first step” are you being called to take? What are the things that make that step difficult? How would you summarize this sermon in one sentence? Thank you for coming today! If you enjoyed worship, tell a friend, and join us again! There are no visitors at Still Waters on Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings. Once you come through our door, you are one of us. You are part of the worshipping body~the body of Christ. You join with us in celebration through the word, sacrament, and fellowship.

For God’s Children

We welcome the little ones as gifts from God. They can stay with you in worship, or be taken to the nursery at anytime, if you prefer. The nursery is for tots up to age 3, located in the children’s wing.

Greeter & Usher Schedule

Communion is offered on the first weekend of the every month. You need not be a member of Still Waters to take Communion, simply acknowledge that you are a child of God and you are welcome at the Lord’s Table. Gluten-free/peanut-free wafers are available.

Tidepool (Sunday School) is offered at all Saturday & Sunday services for children age 3 through grade 5. On Saturdays, children stay in worship until after Children’s Time, then go back to Tidepool. On Sundays, children should go to Tidepool immediately upon arriving. Towards the end of service the teachers will bring the children into worship for a message and then they will be dismissed to their parents. Children’s Bulletin Please take a “Children’s Bulletin” for your child to work on during the service. They can be found in the baskets by the sanctuary doors. Yellow = Ages 3-6 Blue= Ages 7-12

"Practicing Lentfor a lasting change"

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.

Psalm 51:16-17 As we enter the Lenten season we often try to abstain from certain foods or activities as a form of sacrifice to honor Christ. While this may seem appropriate and even noble, the impact is typically temporary. Once the season has ended, we return to our old habits with little contemplation. What if we could experience real, lasting life change? Is that even possible in the six weeks leading up to Easter?

I challenge you to go beyond the fast this Lent. Instead of laying down a habit temporarily, what would it take for you to pick up a new discipline to replace it? Try to find something positive to fill the empty space. Want to spend less time watching television? Dedicate that time to building family relationships. Giving up chocolate (again)? Start eating fresh fruit. Cutting back on Facebook? Get into a devotional or book of the Bible. As we look at how this season can change our lifestyle, don't just think of what you want to give up, but also what you want to take up! In this way, we can experience true transformation this season. With Hope, Andrew Jones, Family Ministry Director

Spirituality and Health

This Lenten Season, our Still Waters Life Groups and Health Ministry are offering a study designed to engage us in meaningful dialogue about the role that a healthy lifestyle has on our spiritual journey. As Methodists, the hope for health is rooted in our DNA. Being fully healthy in body, mind and spirit is a central theme. For that reason, we have chosen a book called, “Organic Wesley” to examine the teachings of John Wesley on whole health and wellbeing of all people. The book specifically examines the teachings of John Wesley in regards to our contemporary food movement. John Wesley did not consider eating to be a morally neutral act. In fact, wellness and diet were central to Wesley’s message in ways that might seem strange to most American churchgoers today. Every person eats every day. Rarely do we spend time considering our food choices in the light of the gospel. But John Wesley did, and we can too. Perhaps this Lenten season, we would like to take the opportunity to look at the food we eat, where we get it from, how it was raised or produced, and think about it being either helpful or destructive to our health. In the spirit of Lent, where we can take on something new, or decide to discontinue some behavior, maybe you would like to change some of your habits as a spiritual discipline. Our study uses a DVD and a book. You can join a Life Group or the Wednesday morning or evening study groups for 5 weeks in Lent. This inspiring and informative series will provide invaluable insight into conversations about food and faith.
