Kith!&!Kin!attended!the!official!opening!of!the!Colours!of!the!Coral!exhibition!at!the! Museum! of! Tropical! Queensland.!There!were!many!guest!speakers!which!made! an! interesting! presentation.! Kith!and! Kin! made! the! front! page! of! the!brochure.! Clients! of! Kith!&!Kin! created!the!variety!of!fish! life!floating!from!the!gallery! ceiling.! This! was! recognised! in!the! Museums! brochure.! So! a! big!congratulations!to!all!of!you!for!working!so! hard! on! your! pieces! that! are! now!displayed! in! the! Museum! of! Tropical!Queensland.!!

Mungalla(Station(Holiday(This!year’s!retreat!will!be!a!2Lnight!stay!from!11th(August(–(13th(August(at(Mungalla(Station.!The!tour!begins!at!the!grand!Mungella!Station!homestead!where!you!will!be!introduced!to!Nywaigi!Aboriginal!culture.!Here!you!get!the!opportunity!to!view!artifacts,!learn!about!the!history!and!culture!and!try!your!hand!at!throwing!a!boomerang!or!spear.!After!this!we!head!back!on!the!bus!for!a!short!trip!to!the!original!homestead!site!where!you!will!be!introduced!to!James!Cassady!and!his!family!who!were!the!first!European!settlers!on!Mungella.!As!you!explore!the!remnants!of!the!“old!Mungella!site”!hear!the!stories!of!these!first!settlers!and!view!old!photos!of!the!historic!site.!We!then!return!to!the!homestead!to!experience!the!amazing!Captive!lives!story.!After!the!tour!you!will!have!the!opportunity!to!enjoy!a!chat!with!Nywaigi!storytellers.!!!!On!Day!2!of!the!retreat!we!will!head!on!a!fishing!trip!to!a!special!place!on!the!station.!!!Places!are!limited!for!this!retreat,!so!if!you!are!interested!please!contact!Ann!Burke!or!Jacki!as!soon!as!possible.!!!

Volunteering( North( Queensland( held( a( community( celebration( to( mark( the( 25th(anniversary(of(National(Volunteers(on(14th(May(at(Jezzine(Barracks.((The( event( started(with(morning( tea( and( a(welcome( speech( from(VNQ( and(Army(museum(representatives.((A(guest(speaker(and(a(presentation(followed(this(for(those(who(were(nominated(by(their(organisations(to(receive(a(certificate(of(appreciation.((Kith(&(Kin(nominated(The(Board(of(Directors(and(the(Artworks(Volunteers(for(their(support(and(dedication(to(our(organisation.((

International(Year(of(the(Family(Townsville! City! Council! has! invited! Artworks!participants!to!create!paintings!with!the!theme!of!“What!family!means!to!you”.!Townsville! City! Council! is! also! providing! all!participants!with! a! canvas! and! supplying! some!of!the!paints!to!complete!the!project.!!The! paintings! will! be! exhibited! at! two! of!Townsville! City! Councils! Libraries! –! Aitkenvale!and!Northtown.!!We!have!decided!on!a! collage! for! some!of! the!group! which! will! involve! smaller! individual!paintings!put!together!to!create!a!large!painting!to! give! more! participants! the! opportunity! to!exhibit!their!paintings.!!Think! about!what!makes! you! happy!when! you!are! with! your! family.! ! You! can! be! creative! by!using!a! collage!of!pictures! and!words.! You!will!also! need! to! write! a! few! words! about! your!painting!for!the!display.!
