Stay with your vehicle–do not try to walk to safety, as you risk developing hypothermia and/or frostbite

Tie a brightly colored cloth to the antenna for rescuers to see

SStart the vehicle and use the heater for about 10 minutes every hour

While you sit, move your arms and legs to keep blood circulating and to help you stay warm

Keep one window away from the blowing wind slightly open to let in air

LLeave the overhead light on inside the vehicle when the engine is running so you can be seen

After the snow stops falling, raise the hood to indicate you need help

Install smoke detectors near sleeping areas on every level of your home. Test them every month. Change batteries every year

Teach family members where the fire extinguisher is kept and how to use it

Talk with members of your household about wildfires - how to prevent them and what to do if one occurs

Limit exposure to smoke and dust

Keep indoor air clean by closing windows and doors to prevent outside smoke from getting in

Install protective shutters orheavy fire-resistant drapes

Select building materials and plants that resist fire

Identify and maintain an external water supply such as a small pond, well, or pool

Be sure to take the necessary stepsto protect your home.

Plan several escape routes in case roads are blocked

Plan how your family will stay in contact if separated

Listen to and follow the instructions of local officials
