Program: bachelor of early childhood studies

"After being in the field of early childhood education for a few years, I started to feel like I wasn't being challenged in my work. I knew I had more to offer. I decided perhaps further study would challenge me and open up new opportunities in the field. I chose CSU's BECS program over other comparable options because of its convenient location and class schedule, which gave me the opportunity to continue working while still upgrading my qualifications.

"I greatly appreciated the small class sizes, as this enabled strong relationships to be formed among students and professors; we all got to know each other really well, and could celebrate and support each other's strengths, gifts and passions.

"Many of the teachers practised what they preached – that is, they modelled for us the ideas and concepts that we were to take with us into our practice with children and families.

"I take away from the program a richer understanding and belief in children's immense capabilities. I feel like a more equipped educator and advocate, and can create a more enriching environment for children and families where they feel valued, respected, cared for and appreciated.

"I recommend this program to friends and colleagues all the time. It not only changed me as an educator, but it opened up possibilities in the field. Also, through networking with CSU professors who are highly regarded in the field, as well as networking with the fantastic mentors from placement experiences, the possibilities of where to go next are endless."

Course: bachelor of primary education studies

"I am starting my first full-time teaching position in Milton with the Halton District School Board teaching full day kindergarten. I really enjoy playing basketball and soccer, as well as woodworking, reading and playing pool.

"I first heard about CSU after seeing an ad in the back of my university student newspaper, and because it was so close to home, I was interested. I lived overseas after my undergraduate study and when I came back to Canada, my sister-in-law told me to apply for the Bachelor of Primary Education Studies, as she was currently completing it. She convinced me that the program and the professors were excellent.

"What I like most about the program is that you are in the classroom teaching two days a week for the whole school year and you also have teaching blocks. this format gives you the opportunity to build a relationship with not only the students, but with your associate teacher. I also really like that we had an observation week for the first week of school so that we could see first-hand what a first day and first week in the life of a teacher looked like.

"I really liked the many different teaching styles of our lecturers.they are all experienced faculty who have many great and unique methods and strategies of teaching. they made sure to emphasise that every teacher is different and that as individuals, we will need to decide what style works for us and then use it.

"I would absolutely recommend this program to friends and colleagues. I feel like the Bachelor of Primary Education Studies really prepared me for teaching on my own in a classroom."

It is progressive in the areas of critical thinking, inquiry, differentiation, issues of equity, social justice, cultural diversity and the development of effective learning communities.

As a result, our graduates are held in high regard by school administrators in Ontario education communities. to support our students' efforts in seeking employment, they are provided with workshops about job preparation strategies, resumé writing and interview skills.

Course: master of international education

(school leadership)

"I chose CSU's Master of International Education (School Leadership) for several reasons. Firstly, it was co-designed with input from the Ontario Principals' Council and, as such, has a tremendous amount of relevant and applicable content for practising educators in Ontario.

"An additional incentive was the fact that some of the qualifications I had completed and that are recorded on my Ontario College of teachers record card could be used for credit towards the completion of my degree.

"this made obtaining the degree, while also working as a full-time principal in a busy secondary school, an achievable goal.

"I have a huge interest in international education and I found that this course was a perfect fit to increase my knowledge of international issues in education, as well as key issues and content here in Ontario.

"the courses are entirely online, which made it easier for me to work on my own schedule while also balancing a demanding job and family life. In addition to this, most of the courses provide opportunities for the learner to select topics that are of personal interest, within the components of the course content. For example, I had the opportunity to select a country of my choice to study specific issues that are also relevant to education in Ontario."
