Open Access

The Victorian Government recognises the benefits from and encourages the availability of Victorian government data for the public good. The DataVic Access Policy has been developed to support this goal.

The purpose of the DataVic Access Policy is to: enable public access to government data to support research and education, promote

innovation, support improvements in productivity and stimulate growth in the Victorian economy; and

enhance sharing of, and access to, information-rich resources to support evidence-based decision making in the public sector.

PTV also recognises the added benefits achieved in other jurisdictions through the provision data to Valued Added Resellers (VARs) such as Google and App developers.

• However, just making the data available is not enough on its own.

• There is increasing recognition that open access to data also needs a supporting information infrastructure or framework.

Growing trend towards opening access to information

VicTripathon Event

VicTripathon is an initiative to engage the digital community in Victoria to use PTV’s data to create digital products.

This will coincide with the release of a new PTV API dataset which will include, for the first time, real-time tram information, some real-time bus information and disruption information.

This event is being run by a consortium led by Collabforge, comprising: Open Knowledge Australia, Code for Australia, Owl Ventures and NICTA.

Public Transport Victoria engaged the consortium to run the event and is supporting the event program.Melbourne

Please welcome Collabforge
