Greetings!

Boy does it feel good to be back. Everyday I feel a little stronger. Even though there is still healing to be done I already I feel better than I have for a couple of years. My energy levels are returning and it feels great!

Perfect timing too. Summer fast approaches. The weather warms. The sun shines and the outdoors beckon. It feels like resurrection.

There is lots happening in the congregation this month. Our annual meeting, PRIDE, The Bridge, and a new gathering I will be hosting on the 4th Sunday of each month for the summer - TAKE FLIGHT. The first will be at 4:30p.m on Sunday June 26th at Uncork & Unwind. This is an opportunity to gather and talk about issues from a faith perspective. (Rabbi and a Pastor is on hiatus until the fall) I hope you will come and join the fun, the fellowship and the conversation.

We will be changing to our summer worship time of 10:00 a.m on Sunday July 3. Mark your calendar's now!

Summer is almost here carrying with it all the mysteries of sun and love and health and warmth and healing and hope and life......May we be renewed, strengthened and made ready to soak in all that this season offers.

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” ― John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America

Blessings,

Amy

FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING IN APRIL AND THE MAY BOARD

MEETING MINUTES-

Brief Recap

APRIL 27, 2016 – EMERGENCY CHURCH BOARD MEETING

Moderator Val called the board meeting to order to discuss pipe repairs Property Chair: Lizbeth Martin-Mahar summarized the recent problems and information

on the needed repairs to the inside sewer system Lizbeth explained that the church has two type of pipe repairs that are needed

to make our sewer and storm-water pipe system work properly again First, the church has already had DrainPro replace the outside storm-water

system pipe which was causing backups in our basement shelter bathrooms. Second, even though the storm-water pipe line was replaced, it fixed one of our sewer backup problems but it also exposed another problem.

According to the Mr. Rooter plumbers, they saw a break in the interior men’s bathroom sewer pipe under the closet area of the basement floor. They initially gave us a cost estimate of $4,200 but the plumbers and Lizbeth said that this would not be a final cost estimate as the plumbers would need to re-examine the sewer pipe once they open it up in the closet area. She wanted to contact with these plumbers to get those repairs started as soon as possible.

The church board voted to begin the repairs to replace the interior men’s sewer pipe line. They decided to utilize the Lighthouse funds first and then we could use up to $20,000 of church savings to complete the interior sewer pipe repairs.

MAY 11, 2016 – MONTHLY CHURCH BOARD MEETING

Moderator Val did the devotion for the board meeting Val wants to know if we should coordinate a list of people who don’t have email (phone

tree) who need to get information on pertinent congregational activities in the church Val is willing to do it

Val gave us an update on the Stewardship Committee and said church members have been doing a great job describing their devotion to our church. The congregation has been very receptive to members’ testimony during Sunday worship.

Val went to the emergency preparedness training Val also said we have an emergency evacuation plan template and map. We will

need to adapt the emergency plan for our congregation. Continued page 4

MAY 11, 2016 – MONTHLY CHURCH BOARD MEETING, CONTINUED:

Loft: Brenda Preparing for Pride next month – 18th and 19th June Website: have been working with web consultant and making headway on the

website

Property: Lizbeth M.

1. I have contracted with Mr. Rooter to start repairs on the main inside sewer line from the men’s bathroom to the outside city sewer - we have committed to $6,900 so far in repairs

2. The plumbers have cut up the cement in the basement in a closet under the stairs to access the men’s bathroom pipe system to repair a broken pipe in this area

3. Once the plumbers followed this men’s bathroom pipe line out to the parking lot, they found that the pipe was disconnected from the other sewer pipe sys-tem for the women’s bathrooms. The plumbers are planning to re-route the pipe inside the closet area so it can connect all the sewer lines together. This re-routing of the pipe system will cost an additional $4,600.

4. These fixes to the men’s bathroom sewer line (described in bullets 1-3) will be sufficient to get the men’s bathroom line working again at a total cost of roughly $11,500. I have asked the plumbers to give me an estimate for re-lining or putting in a new pipe line for the entire men’s bathroom line. The cost of replacing the entire men’s bathroom sewer line would be another $12,400. This sewer pipe replacement would come with a 50 year warranty on the new pipe being put in.

The Board discussed the interior sewer repair expenses and decided to do all 4 compo-

nents (replacing the line from the men’s bathroom to the pipe under the parking lot) with a total plumbing cost of $24,572 with tax which is just around the amount we can pay for with the remaining Lighthouse funds and money market savings account.

The Board had already voted to use the Lighthouse funds first and then savings up to $20,000 at the emergency board meeting on April 27, 2016.

FCC PROPERTY PASTIMES

- PLUMBING REPLACEMENT WORK FINISHED! We have completed our final phase of work on the interior sewer pipe line replacements

in the basement homeless shelter. We now have a new interior sewer line from the

men’s bathrooms in the shelter to the outside pipe which has a new connection as well to

the existing outside sewer line. Now both the outside storm-water pipe line and the

interior sewer pipe from the men’s bathroom to outside have been replaced and they

won’t need to be replaced again for another 50 years.

All these plumbing repairs have been costly for our church as they have totaled $51,000 since the beginning of the 2016. The board voted to use Lighthouse funds first and if needed church savings up to $20,000 to pay for the wastewater and sewer pipe replacements. We have set up a “Go Fund Me” site to allow people to donate funds to our church and shelter for these pipe replacement costs. Here’s the link to the Go-Fund-Me account https://www.gofundme.com/fccoly Please donate to our sewer and storm-water repairs as you can and pass the word and link to others who also might want a chance to contribute to our mission of keeping the emergency homeless shelter in our church basement. In addition to our sewer and storm-water pipe repairs, we have replaced our PRIDE flags

and they are now flying proudly around our church again.
