For our 15th estival Open House will be gettingup-close-and-personal. Most music acionadosagree that olk music works best in an intimate, live

setting. Damned right it does. Its easier to connectwith a ddle player when you can see the whiteso his eyes . Plus, here at Open House HQ wereagreed that the current climate (both economic andmeteorological) is not conducive to taking big riskson large scale outdoor shows. And bigger isnt alwaysbetter. So, weve decided that all our events in 2013will be taking place in relaxed, amiliar and intimatevenues and, seeing as its our 15th birthday, werecelebrating by giving you 15 shows at just 5 each,

plus a whole series o ree events, including Irish

and American traditional music sessions. Lookingorward to getting up close and personal with youin June.

    Festival Director, Kieran Gilmore

We are delighted to continue in our support o oneo Northern Irelands most vibrant music estivals.

Wry and subversive, the writing andperormances here are rst-rate, olk-based andundeniably unique. Te Washington Post

Like most people, Open House rst came across BhiBhiman (pronounced Bee Beeman) upon the releaseo his album last year, when he made a blisteringappearance singing Guttersnipe on Later with Jools.

We were hooked by his looks, his smart suitand most o all by his voice.

Although his parents are emigrants rom Sri Lanka,Bhi Bhiman is an American original and yet heseems transported rom an era when songs weremore important than the pretty aces that deliveredthem. Bhis mix o humour and deep empathy putshim in the company o distinguished (and mucholder) lielong songsmiths like John Prine, NickLowe, Randy Newman and Bob Dylan.

Aer growing up singing olk tunes with herMormon amily in Northern Caliornia, Jesca Hoop,at age 16, broke away rom her strict upbringingand began what she calls her lie as a racoon, othe grid & close to nature. Hoop has since lived allover the map, rom working as a wilderness survivalguide to chalking up skills in arming, surveying andcarpentry. She settled down or the ve years thatshe was nanny to om Waits amily, then came toEurope to tour with Elbow. Biggles Flys Agains debut album RememberSaturday sounds like one o those great pop albumsyou used to listen to and there are several reasonswhy. Te rst and most obvious one is that theman behind the moniker, Dubliner Conor Deasy,is especially adept at craing 3 minute pop gems.

Secondly Remember Saturday was recorded withthe aid o instruments rom a orgotten era, namelyCasio and Yamaha keyboards, a Hammond organand a BBC Neve recording console. We also predicta bright uture or Biggles Flys Again.

    DOORS: 7.30PM / OVER 18SSOME SEATING (UNRESERVED)AND SOME STANDING

Every so oen, just when you think the well is dryand the tradition is dead, you are grateully remind-ed that there is still water down there and that thetradition was only sleeping. Morgan OKane romCharlottesville, Virginia, is one o those reminders.A virtuoso banjo player, shouter and activist nowbased in New York City, Morgan recalls two othertransplanted legendary southern artists; Rever-end Gary Davis and Aunt Molly Jackson. Like thereverend, Morgan honed his skills making a living asa busking street artist. Like Aunt Molly, he has kepthis connection to his Appalachian home.

While Morgan OKane clearly knows his way aroundthe old tunes, this aint no revival - he is moreinterested in creating his own, helped by the vir-tuoso band o New York Citys Dobro genius, ZekeHealy, the one-and-only Ferd Moyse IV on ddle(Hackensaw Boys) and Liam Crill on spoons. Toseo you who have attended Open House Festival overthe years will know just how appropriate it is thatMorgan & Ferd and the guys close this years estival.

Good time ukulele and sing-along vibes comes romour very own democratic orchestra o the people, the mighty Uke Belast. We have seen the uture orock n roll and it eatures at least one ukulele.

IF YOU LIKEWilliam Elliot Whitmore, Old Crow Medicine Show,Te Hackensaw Boys, rampled By urtles, PokeyLaFarge and Jonny Corndawg, youll love this.
