Bull Creek Wind Project

Construction

Project Update • BluEarth applied to the Alberta Utilities Commission for a Project amendment in November 2014. Once the amendment is approved the Project will proceed with construction

• Prior to filing the amendment application, BluEarth informed local residents about the proposed Project changes through notices sent by mail and in the newspaper, as well as at two public meetings and through direct conversations

•The amended Project is within the same area originally proposed and will now consist of 17 GE 1.7MW wind turbines and a distribution-level electrical connection

• As part of the approval, minor changes to turbine locations, access road and electrical cable routes were made in consultation with Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (AESRD)

Wetlands

Environmental Studies

• BluEarth is fulfilling the Alberta Utilities Commission requirements for completing pre-construction wildlife studies

•These studies have been designed in consultation with Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resources Development (AESRD)

• Spring 2015 studies will consist of surveys for raptor stick nests, Sharp-tailed Grouse leks, migratory birds, breeding birds and amphibians

•Once completed, AESRD will review the results to ensure any environmental concerns are minimized

Post-construction wildlife monitoring • A post-construction monitoring plan (PCMP) will be developed in consultation with AESRD prior to the completion of Project construction

•The PCMP will involve two years of studies to determine the extent of any wildlife effects associated with the operation of the Project

•The PCMP typically consists of bird and bat mortality searches and other wildlife surveys as required by AESRD

•The findings of the studies will be shared with AESRD and if required, mitigation measures will be implemented

Pre-construction wildlife monitoring

Bull Creek Wind Project

ConstructionWhat to expect

• Construction activity will peak during the summer months, particularily when civil work (road and foundation construction) is underway

• In an effort to complete the construction as efficiently as possible and minimize the amount of total construction time spent in the area, contractors will be working long days and weekends

• Similar to any construction project, there will be increased traffic, noise and dust in the area while the construction is underway. BluEarth will make efforts to reduce these effects

As we get closer to construction, contact information for our on-site contractor will be provided to the community.

Bull Creek Wind Project

Blade Delivery

Transportation Plan • Turbine component delivery will be concentrated between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., when possible, to reduce the potential for effects on traffic

• A transportation plan will be developed referencing existing traffic regimes

• Controls will be implemented along the delivery routes to minimize dust for area residents

• Signage and safety notices will be in posted in advance when roads are being used for deliveries

• Typical construction traffic will include the following:

• Large trucks & trailers delivering turbine components

• Concrete trucks

• Construction equipment

• Service & delivery trucks

• Passenger vehicles

Bull Creek Wind Project

It’s All in the NameEarth, our home, when seen from space is a blue and white vision of harmony – water, wind and sun, all in constant motion and flow, maintaining a perfect equilibrium that keeps our skies, lakes and oceans healthy and brilliantly blue. From the ground however, the vision is less perfect. Our blue earth’s equilibrium is under enormous stress from pollution and climate change.

Because everything is connected, and every action big and small matters, we chose the name BluEarth to remind us, everyday, of the vision that brought our team together, and which continues to motivate us to do our part to help our Earth maintain its blue equilibrium – not just for us, but for our children and our children’s children.

Given society’s continued reliance on electricity, we recognize we need more effective ways of changing generation practices. At BluEarth, we believe that power generation utilizing renewable fuel sources - wind, water, solar - is the way forward to a carbon-free future.

MissionTo be the Canadian renewable energy leader by developing, building and operating a portfolio that optimizes people, planet and profit.

VisionThe power to change the future by demonstrating that you can be sustainable and profitable, leaving the world a better place.
