3rd Open National of Lyon 2013 – Karate Kyokushinkai The Open will take place on Saturday, May 4th 2013 at “Maison du Judo” (12 rue St Théodore, in the 3rd district of Lyon). This tournament is international and opened to all Karate styles.

You will find in this letter all the necessary information about this Open National of Lyon 2013 (registration information, schedule of the day etc.).

This tournament is a tournament for the second division. The deadline for registration is fixed on April 19 th 2013. This year, the French cup of KATA IKO will take place, during Open of Lyon,. This competition is exclusively reserved for the members of the International Kyokushinkai Organisation. We’re looking forward to seeing you in Lyon for this event. OSU.

KARATE KYOKUSHINKAI

Kyokushin or Kyokushinkai is a style of

Karate, established by Masutatsu Oyama, of his

real name Choi Young-i. The first Kyokushinkai

Dojo is created in a district of Tokyo in 1953. It

is Shihan Bobby Lowe who exports for the first

time the Kyokushinkai outside Japan, with the

opening of a dojo in the Hawaiian Islands. 1964

sees the opening of the first Honbu Dojo, and it

is in fact only at this moment that Sosai Oyama

gives named his style : “Kyokushinkai”. In Japanese, Kyokushinkai means " School of the

ultimate truth ". Developed by Masutatsu Oyama, from the techniques of the Japanese

karate, the Kyokushin is Karate of full contact, which emphasizes the efficiency in real

fight.

In this school, students as well as the teacher take part in fights. Unlike other styles

of karate, Kyokushin, in general, does not authorize the port of a protection during fights.

The knocks are given with a maximal strength. It is not allowed to knock with hands in the

head of the opponent, on the other hand the blows of foot and knee are allowed and

some are of a major power (for example kagate or hiza geri).

The senior fights (kumite) take place in K.O. without protections and tests of

"break-in" decide between draw. For children, juniors and women, adequate protections

are compulsory.

Regional, national and European competitions are organized all year round in both

disciplines that are the competitions kumite and kata.

The symbol of the kyokushinkai is the kanku, the origins of which result from the

kata Kanku. Kanku is literally translated " to contemplate the sky ". This kata begins by

raising hands opened with thumbs and indexes, which contact. The attention is then

managed towards the center of hands, to unify the spirit and

the body. The points of the kanku represent fingers and mean

the aim. The thick part represents the space between hands

and means the infinity, the depth. The internal and outer

circles mean the continuity and the circular movement.

In Japan, then worldwide, Masutatsu Oyama knew how

to make the Kyokushin known With the publication of the

book Vital Karate, then the real encyclopedia of three works:

“What is Karate”, “This is Karate” and “Advanced Karate”

where the various aspects of the work of the Kyokushin are

analysed and detailed.

For the most hardened by his karatekas, Sosai Oyama

established a test which each could present when he wishes it

- Hyaku Nin Kumite - the test of hundred fights.

The combat system of the kyokushin is based on more traditional styles of karate, in

particular the shotokan and the goju-ryu. It distances itself by a research for efficiency in

the fight allying direct and heavy knocks. The motto of the kyokushin is Ichigeki" A blow, a

victory ".

The fights lead often at a distance very tight, the main knocks are given in repetition

in the direction of the legs of the opponent and aim at destroying his capacity to hold the

fight or simply to bring down it. In Kyokushin we can adorn / counter-attack a kick by a

direct punch.

Besides, the severity of the fights makes followers of this

style of the very hardened karatekas, being able to accept a big

physical load in every sense of the word.

Certain techniques of the Kyokushin are hardly used in

other Japanese martial arts, even if they exist in the katas of

most of the styles of karate: hiza-geri (Knee kick), mae oroshi

kagato geri (heel kick), gedan mawashi geri (Low rotary kick).

Today, certain followers of Kyokushin, as Francisco Filho or

Glaube Feitosa, appear in fights of K-1.
