About us
Founders: Claudio Carnevali and Gabriele Allegria openPicus was born in March 2010 in Rome
I started in 2001 a company that designes and manufactures Bluetooth modules for B2B market
Gabriele started in 2003 a company that installs and customize high level home automaUon and mulUmedia.
We started openPicus because was missing a low cost, easy to use for an hobbyist or a company, pla:orm to Connect things to the Internet.
We have complementary experUse: I’m more involved on hardware and industrial design, Gabriele is the So6ware specialist.
We decided that all our products must be manufactured in Italy respecUng labor and environment laws.

So6ware
The core of our technology is the openPicus framework, which enables embedded devices to connect to the Internet, easily.
The openPicus framework, based on freeRTOS, manages the complexity of the TCP/IP stack and the user applicaUon developed using the free IDE
Why not using Linux? Hardware resources, cost and power consumpUon. A simple 16 bits processor is much more efficient for our target applicaUons.
openPicus Free IDE reduces development Jme from 4-‐6 months to few weeks.
Zero investment on tools: each Flyport module has a serial bootloader onboard.

Services
Flyport modules run even contemporaneosly the following Internet services:
Best in Class Customizable webserver
e-mail client
TCP client/server
UDP client/server
FTP client

Flyport and IoT
Libraries are available for most of the Cloud services for the IoT:
New libraries are coming also for EVRYTHNG and other IoT service providers. Just add the library to your project, compile and go!
Enough processing power, flexible pinout, low power modes and embedded connecUvity make Flyport one of the best modules for the rapid development of IoT applicaUons.

Flyport and Smart Home
We just joined the EnOcean alliance. EnOcean provides Energy harvesUng, wireless, based home automaUon soluUons such as:
EnOcean is the real “last mile” for the DIY home automaUon.
Bameryless pushbumons Solar powered sensors PelUer cells powered valves Actuators like Relays and more
In 2020 20 billions devices will be connected to the Internet: we hope that most of them will be powered by energy harvesUng.

DOoIP the first “off the shelf” firmware for Flyport to let mobile devices programmers be able to interact with the physical world.
DOoIP is a JSON-‐like protocol over UDP to control each Flyport funcUon without any embedded development.
DOoIP library for Android will be available for free. Official release 10th July 2012

A company without doors
openPicus has a new business model: we are open to the community to generate benefit for the eco-‐system. Over 3.500 people on our community are using Flyport in many applicaUons. We get in touch with them everyday, we discuss and learn to improve our plarorm. Our office has “no doors”: energy, ideas, people and projects are coming and going making this a new business model with the user at its center. All our latest modules and expansion boards are co-‐designed with the community that also supports us with Beta tesUng. To reach the same effect in a “tradiUonal company” needs more than 35 people and this impacts dramaUcally to the product cost. The engadgment with our community has a mutual benefit: we save on development and we distribute these savings into products price reducUon.
