500W ERT® OrderingGuide Chapter A Firmware Functionality
BOrdering Information
TheOpenWayRiva water module allows for flexible deployment strategies, giving customersthe option to deploy devices in OpenWayRiva NetworkMode or legacy 100S MobileMode. Devices deployed inMobile Mode function as 100W ERTmodules until they are ready tobe read over the OpenWayRiva Network.
Taking advantage of anOpenWayRivaWater ModuleMobile Mode-first deployment requires aprior knowledge of all future network transition parameters. Operating the OpenWayRivaWatermodule in OpenWayRiva NetworkMode requires ISM files and themanufacturing SSID. Inject-ing the certificates, files, and SSID into the device requires that the customer’s network envir-onment is setup.
The network environment informationmust be provided for manufacturing to inject customer spe-cific certificates and keys at the time of manufacture. Since injecting security into the endpointssecures them for a specific customer, Itron requires a First Article to ensure that the settings arecorrect for devices ordered with security injected at the time of manufacturing.
If devices are injected with network security credentials, customerswho are ready to switch fromMobile to NetworkMode can do so via drive by using FCS v4.0.3 or higher. Injecting security intothe endpoint is free of charge and saves time in the field, so Itron recommends that all OpenWayRivaWater modules are ordered with security. Devices deployed inMobile Mode without secur-ity injected at the time they aremanufactured require an additional visit to each devicemaking it acostly task.
For customers that want to begin reading over anOpenWayRiva Network at the time of deploy-ment, Itron offers custom programming and security options that allow the customer to deployOpenWayRivaWater modules in OpenWayRiva NetworkMode. The custom programming andsecurity options allow the device to automatically join the network when flow is detected. Thisoption is available only for meter indexeswith an initial read of zero. Field retrofit devices that useexisting indexes can be set to join the network at the time of installation. In both scenarios, verifyyou are orderingmoduleswith factory-injected security.
Determining the configuration that is best for the chosen deployment strategy is very important!Itron is vested in ensuring our customers execute their plan successfully.
