– whether an espresso or a coffee isbeing made, and

– the altitude of the region.

If the coffee machine is located at morethan 2000 metres above sea level, thebrewing temperature needs to be setlower due to the change in pressure. This is because the boiling point forwater at a high altitude above sea levelis lower than the boiling point for waterat sea level.

When rinsing, no wateror noticeably less waterthan usual runs out ofthe central spout. No coffee or noticeablyless coffee than usual isdispensed from thecentral spout. Thedisplay and the noisewhen coffee is beingmade remain the same. There is noticeablymore "coffee water" inthe waste container.

The central spout is not fitted correctly. Check whether the central spout has been

assembled as described (see "Cleaning and care –Central spout").

The cap is no longer securely fitted to the centralspout connector (see "Guide to the machine"). Check the cap on the central spout connector.

Lubricate the cap with the silicone greasesupplied.

The cap on the central spout connector is damagedor missing. Replace the cap with the extra cap supplied. Lubricate the cap with the silicone grease

Problem Cause and remedy

The descaling processwas started by mistake.

The descaling process cannot be stopped once the"OK" sensor has been touched.

Descaling must be continued through to completion. This is a safety precaution to make sure the machineis descaled correctly. This is important for thelongevity and functional efficiency of your coffeemachine. Descale the coffee machine (see "Descaling").

Loud noises are heardduring the descalingprogramme.

This is not a fault. These noises occur when water is flushed throughthe machine at a high pressure.

The display lights upbut the coffee machinedoes not heat up andno drinks are made.

The Demo mode for demonstrating the coffeemachine in the showroom has been activated. Deactivate the demo mode (see "Settings – Demo

mode")

The container beingused is not recognisedby the automatic spoutadjustment repeatedly. The central spoutmoves to the rim of thecup or glass andtriggers the cupprotection cut-out.

The container is unsuitable for the cup sensingsystem. Use other cups or glasses that can be recognised

by the automatic spout adjustment function.

There is a fault with the automatic spout adjustment. Switch the machine off with the On/Off sensor .

Wait for approx. 2 minutes before switching itback on again.

Use another cup or glass and make a drink. If the cup protection cut-out is triggered again or

the central spout moves to the rim of the cup orglass again, contact Miele.

The cup protection cut-out is not working. Thecentral spout moves tothe rim of the cleaningcontainer and becomeswedged against the rim.

If the cleaning container is very close to or touchingthe rear panel, the automatic spout adjustment willnot detect the rim properly. Move the cleaning container slightly further

forwards.

Unsatisfactory results

Problem Cause and remedy

The coffee is not hotenough.

The cup has not been pre-heated.

The smaller the cup and the thicker its sides, themore important it is to pre-heat it. Pre-heat the cup, for example, with hot water.

The brewing temperature has been set too low. Set a higher brewing temperature (see "Coffee the

way you like it – Brewing temperature").

The filters in the brew unit are blocked. Remove and clean the brew unit by hand (see

"Cleaning and care – Brew unit"). Degrease the brew unit (see "Cleaning and care –

Brew unit").

The heating-up time isgetting longer, theamount of water beingdispensed is incorrectand the coffee machineis not performingproperly.

The coffee machine needs descaling. Descale the coffee machine (see "Descaling").

Coffee is not beingdispensed from bothspouts evenly. Milk maybe sputtering whenbeing heated up.

Coffee deposits in the central spout are obstructingdispensing. Dismantle the central spout and clean the

components – with the exception of the stainlesssteel cover – in the dishwasher (see "Cleaning andcare – Central spout").The central spout should be cleaned once aweek.

The coffee grindermakes a louder noisethan usual.

The coffee bean container has become empty duringthe grinding process. Fill the container with fresh beans.

There may be stones in amongst the coffee beans. Switch the coffee machine off immediately. Call

Miele.

Problems when heating up or frothing milk

Problem Cause and remedy

The milk sputters whenit is dispensed. Hissingnoises can be heardwhen milk is beingheated up or frothed.Although the milkshould be frothed, onlyhot milk is dispensedfrom the central spout.

The milk temperature is too high. Good milk froth canonly be achieved when cold milk (< 10 °C) is used. Check the temperature in the milk flask.

The milk flask has not been fitted correctly and so airas well as milk is being sucked in. Push the milk flask in until it clicks into position.

The central spout is not fitted correctly. Check whether the central spout has been

assembled correctly.

The milk pipework in the milk flask lid is dirty. Dismantle the milk flask lid and clean it with the

cleaning brush (see "Cleaning and care – Milkflask").

Clean the central spout and the milk valve with thecleaning brush (see "Central spout" and"Maintenance of the milk valve").

The angled connector is blocked and must bereplaced. Replace the angled connector (see "Replacing the

angled connector").

Fill and insert milk flaskappears in the displayeven though the milkflask has been filled andinserted in the machine.

The milk flask lid could be dirty and this hasprevented the sensing function from workingproperly. Clean the milk flask lid and the milk flask

thoroughly. Dismantle the lid and clean it with thecleaning brush supplied (see "Cleaning and care –Milk flask and lid").

88

Replacing the angledconnectorIf instead of being frothed the milk isonly being heated up, check thefollowing first:

– Is the milk in the milk flask cold(< 10 ° C)?

– Have the central spout and the milkflask lid been cleaned carefully?

– Is the central spout correctly fitted?

If after checking the above, milk stillcannot be frothed, replace the angledconnector as follows:

You will need the replacement angledconnector supplied with the coffeemachine.

Do not use a needle or similarimplement. This would damage thecomponents.

Open the maintenance panel on theback of the machine front.

First release air intake tube fromopening . Then pull off angledconnector .

Pull both tubes out of the angledconnector.

Clean air intake tube underrunning water with the cleaning brushsupplied. "Blowing through" can helpto dislodge blockages.

Insert the brush in milk tube . Movethe brush back and forth as far aspossible until all milk deposits havebeen removed.

Take the new angled connector. (Youcan dispose of the old angledconnector with normal householdwaste).

Installation, repairs and other work byunqualified persons could bedangerous. The manufacturer cannotbe held liable for unauthorised work.

The voltage and frequency are given onthe data plate located inside themachine. Please ensure these matchthe household mains supply. This datamust correspond in order to avoiddamage to the machine. The fuse ratingis quoted on the plug.

The coffee machine is supplied with amains cable with moulded plug forconnection to a 50 Hz, 220-240 Vmains supply.

The fuse rating must be at least 13 A.

Connection should be made via a fusedplug and suitable switched socketwhich is easily accessible afterinstallation. If the mains socket is notaccessible after the appliance has beenbuilt in, a separator for each terminalmust be present. There must be an all-pole contact gap of at least 3 mm in theswitch (including switch, fuses andrelays according to EN 60335).

Do not connect the machine to aninverter such as those used with anautonomous energy source e.g. solarpower. When switched on, peak loadsin the system can cause the safetyswitch off mechanism to be triggered. This can damage the electronic unit.

The coffee machine must not be usedwith so-called energy saving deviceseither. These reduce the amount ofenergy supplied to the machine causingit to overheat.

Ventilation

Condensate can damage the coffeemachine or the housing unit. The ventilation gaps given must beobserved.Do not cover or block the ventilationgaps.Dust the ventilation gaps regularly.

Steam which is created when water isheated up can condense on the interiorand the inside of the front of the coffeemachine.

When installing the coffee machineensure that there is sufficient ventilationat the rear of the machine to allowsteam and heated air to escape withouthindrance.

The housing unit should be configuredas follows:

– Air intake occurs via the plinth atthe bottom of the machine and theair escapes at the top at the rearof the housing unit.

– A ventilation gap of at least 40 mmdepth must be allowed for behind themachine for air to circulate.

– The ventilation cross-sections in theplinth, housing unit and below theroom ceiling must amount to at least200 cm2 to ensure that air cancirculate without hindrance.

Top ventilation gap

The ventilation gap at the top of themachine can be constructed in differentways:

a directly above the coffee machinewith a ventilation grille (free air flowof at least 200 cm2)

b in between the housing unit and theceiling

c through a suspended ceiling.
