Add/Drop Multiplexer System (ADM) Alcatel 1651 SM

I/O STM4 access is performed by an Add/Drop Multiplexersystem Alcatel1651SM integrated in a separate 4/1 OMSGrack which has been specially modified. The ADM systemis controlled by a network management system or a localcraft terminal directly connected to the ADM equipment onopening the rack doors. The management of the ADM is in'dependent from the partsystem Control of the 4/1 OMSG.The alarms Urgent and Non'urgent, indicated by LEDs onthe ADM equipment, are forwarded to the lamps in the TopRack Unit TRU of the ADM modified rack (see Section 2.9in the Hardware Installation Manual). For a description ofthe ADM and information on how it is operated refer to theaccompanying Alcatel1651SM documentation TechnicalHandbook and Operator’s Handbook.

NOTICEThe alarm Attended indicated by an LED on the ADMequipment is not forwarded to the lamps in the TRU of theADM modified rack.

In general, the feature ’Attended Alarm’ is not presentlysupported by the 4/1 OMSG hardware. Therefore, theoccurrence of an attended alarm is only visible on the ADMequipment after opening the rack doors.

Customer DocumentationAlcatel OptinexTM 1641 SX Release"6.3*1

Organization of the Documentation

The 4/1 MultiService Metro Gateway AlcatelOptinexTM

1641888SX (4/1 OMSG) customer documentation consists ofthe following manuals (the manual on hand is printed inbold):

− Functional Description Partsystems

− Operating Instructions Subracks

− Hardware Installation Manual

− Operation Manual Craft Terminal Software

− Alcatel1651SM Technical Handbook and Operator’sHandbook (if equipped)

Apart from this documentation, especially created forcustomers, Alcatel SEL supplies manufacturer documentsas well. The manufacturer documents are only supplied todepartments which are responsible for maintaining andmodifying the system. These documents are not describedhere.

Contents of the Manuals

The manual Functional Descriptions Partsystems de'scribes the way the 4/1 OMSG works. The logical subdivi'sion of the system in partsystems does not correspond to itsmechanical construction. The partsystems are:

− Control

− Clock Generation and Distribution

− Matrix

− Common I/O shelf

− Input/Output of synchronous and plesiochronous signals.

The manual Operating Instructions Subracks de'scribes their mechanical features and the use of the operat'ing elements. Not all boards contained in the subrack be'long to the partsystem corresponding to this subrack. AnOperating Instruction consists of:

− the subrack equipment

− the assignment of the connector strips

− Common I/O shelf

− the subrack cabling

− test sockets, switches, alarm indicators on the frontpanel of the boards and their function.

The Hardware Installation Manual summarizes themechanical construction details of racks, Common I/O shelfand subracks. It provides information on hardware start'upand upgrade procedures for the entire 4/1 OMSG.

The Operation Manual Craft Terminal/Craft Terminal for Multiple NE/Users describes the operation of the4/1 OMSG using the CT or SH'DXC, performing adminis'trative and maintenance tasks and alarm handling.

Page 6: Operating Instructions Subracks

3AL 74401 AAAA5

The manual consists of

− the Operation Manual CT/SH'DXC Introductiondescribing the main features of the graphicalinterface and providing a general overview of thesystem architecture, the managed equipment and thedifferent functionalities provided by the SDHManager.

− the Operation Manual CT/SH'DXC Constructiondescribing the operations related to the managementof Maps, Submaps and symbols within the SDHManager and indicating the actions leading to thecreation, edition, deletion, storage and listing ofMaps.

− the Operation Manual CT/SH'DXC Error Messagesreporting any error that is propagated to theoperator interface, as well as an explanation andsome possible actions whenever appropriate.

− the Operation Manual CT/SH'DXC Administrationdescribing administrative and maintenance tasksprovided by the System Maintenance Features suchas creating users and installing the AU application.

− the Alarm Reference Guideproviding information of all possible alarms on theCT concerning cause, effect on service and ways toget out of the alarm situation.

− the Operation Manual Alarm Manager ALMAP ASproviding information concerning alarm surveillanceand alarm management such as displaying alarmlists, acknowledging alarms.

− the Operation Manual Security Management ALMAPSECdescribing the operation of the SEC Access ControlInformation Administration (ACA) tool. It introducesthe different access control concepts, such asfunctions, objects and combinations, FunctionalAccess Domains (FADs), and Object Access Domains(OADs), operators groups, initiators, targets, anduser profiles.

− the Operation Manual Log Management ALMAP ELMdescribing the operation of the ELM (Element LogManager) generic component, which deals with the

Page 7: Operating Instructions Subracks

management of Event Forward Discriminators(EFDs) together with the management and thebrowsing of logs.

The Alcatel 1651 SM system handbooks comprise allinformation concerning the ADM extension of the4/1OMSG for STM'4 access. These handbooks are suppliedonly if an ADM equipment is contained in the system sup'plied.

SymbolsThe manual at hand contains the following symbols:

ATTENTIONis used to mark information provided to prevent materialdamages or operation errors.

NOTICEis used to emphasize particularly important information.
