Energy and water consumption

– To get the most out of your machine, load the maximum dry load for theprogramme you are using. The energy and water consumptionwill be the lowest in relation to thesize of the load.

– When smaller amounts of laundry arewashed, the Auto load control systemwill reduce the amount of water andenergy used.

– Use the Express 20 programme forsmall, lightly soiled loads.

– Modern detergents make it possibleto wash at lower temperatures (e.g.20°C). Using lower temperaturesettings will save energy.

– To maintain the hygiene of themachine, carry out a hot wash (above60°C) at regular intervals. The indicator will come on to remind youto carry out a hot wash.

Detergent consumption

– Do not exceed the amounts ofdetergent recommended by themanufacturer on the packaging.

– Adjust the dosage to the degree ofsoiling of the laundry.

– Reduce the amount of detergent withsmaller loads (approx. ⅓ less thanthe amount recommended can beused when washing a half load).

Selecting the correct Extra (Shortand Pre-wash)

Select:

– a wash programme together with theShort Extra for light soiling wherethere are no obvious marks.

– a wash programme without anyExtras for normal to heavy soilingwith visible marks.

Tips on dosing

Adjust the detergent dosage to the levelof soiling of the laundry and the size ofthe load. Reduce the amount ofdetergent with smaller loads (e.g.reduce the amount of detergent by ⅓when washing a half load).

Too little detergent results in:

– laundry not getting properly cleanand with time it may become greyand hard to the touch.

– a build-up of mould in the washingmachine.

– grease not being completely removedfrom the laundry.

– limescale deposits on the heaterelements.

Too much detergent results in:

– poor wash, rinse, and spin results.

– a higher water consumption as anextra rinse cycle is automaticallyactivated.

– a greater burden on the environment.

Using liquid detergent with a pre-wash

Liquid detergent cannot be used for themain wash if the pre-wash has beenselected.

Use powder detergent for the mainwash.

Using detergent tablets or pods

Always put detergent tablets or podsdirectly in the drum with the laundry. They cannot be added via the detergentdispenser drawer.

PowerWashPowerWash is a washing techniquedeveloped by Miele. It is activated inthe following programmes:

– Cottons (with small and medium-sized loads)

– Minimum iron

– Shirts

– Delicates

– ECO 40-60 (with small and medium-sized loads)

How it works

Conventional washing techniques washwith more water than the laundry canabsorb. This total volume of waterneeds to be heated.

The PowerWash washing techniqueonly uses slightly more water than thelaundry can absorb. The water whichhas not been absorbed by the laundryheats up the drum and the laundry andis sprayed into the laundry over andover again. This reduces the amount ofenergy used.

Activation

PowerWash is activated automaticallyin the programmes listed above.

PowerWash is deactivated if:

– The selected final spin speed is lessthan 600 rpm

– CapDosing (, ) has beenselected for the main wash

– The wash temperature is higher than60°C

– Extras such as Pre-wash or Water +have been selected

– A large load is being washed in theCottons programme

Special features

– Drenching phaseThe washing machine will spin a fewtimes at the beginning of theprogramme. During spinning, thewater discharged is sprayed backinto the laundry in order to achieveoptimum moisture penetration.

The optimum water level is set at theend of the drenching phase. Ifnecessary, the washing machine willpump water away and take in a littlemore fresh water.

– Noises during the heating phaseUnusual bubbling noises can occurwhile the laundry and the drum arebeing heated.

The correct detergentAll detergents produced for automaticfront loading washing machines aresuitable. Follow the manufacturer'sinstructions and dosagerecommendations on the packaging.

The right amount to dispensewill depend on the following:– The soiling level of the laundry.

– The quantity of laundry.

– The water hardness level. Check withyour local water authority if you donot know the water hardness level inyour area.

Detergent dispensing aidsUse dispensing aids (e.g. balls) if theseare supplied with the detergent, particularly when using liquid detergent.

Refill packs of detergentWhen purchasing detergent, buy refillpacks wherever possible. This helpsreduce the amount of waste packaging.

Fabric softeners and liquidstarchFabric softeners make garments soft to handle and helpprevent static cling when tumble drying.

Fabric shapers are synthetic starches and give an evenstiffer hold.

Starch stiffens and gives body to items oflaundry, e.g. shirts, tablecloths and bedlinen.

An unsatisfactory wash result

Problem Possible cause and remedy

Liquid detergent doesnot give the requiredresult.

Liquid detergents usually contain no bleachingagents. They do not remove fruit, coffee and teastains. Use a general purpose powder detergent

containing a bleaching agent. Use the appropriate capsule or add stain removers

to the compartment. Never put stain removers and liquid detergent

together in the dispenser drawer.

Grey, greasy particlescling to washed laundry.

Insufficient amounts of detergent were used to breakdown the particles of grease in heavily soiled laundry. Use more detergent or liquid detergent. Before washing the next load, run a Cottons 60°C

programme with powder detergent but without aload.

White residues whichlook like powderdetergent are seen ondark textiles afterwashing.

The detergent contained compounds (zeolites) to aidwater softening which are not soluble in water. Thesehave ended up on the laundry. Try and brush off the residues with a soft brush

once the laundry is dry. Wash dark textiles using a detergent which does

not contain zeolites. Liquid detergents usually donot contain zeolites.
