Operating Principle

The disk brushes sweep the debris in front of the suction hood. The sweeping width can be increased by actuating the swivelling brush* (optional equipment). The swivelling brush also facilitates the sweeping of road bays and between parked vehicles. To reduce the quantity of dust, raised while sweeping, the debris is sprayed with water by means of spray nozzles, fitted onto the sweeping and suction unit. The suction fan generates a vacuum in the hopper and the swept debris is sucked through the suction hood plus the flexible suction hose into the hopper. Due to the much larger cross-section, the sucked air speed in the hopper becomes considerably reduced, allowing the debris to settle in the hopper. A rubber-lined baffle plate, fitted above the suction connection piece in the hopper, protects the hopper roof from damage. The sucked air, free of debris, is directed through the filter screens into the suction fan and then to the exhaust air duct. The filter screens prevent bulky, but light debris (paper, leaves etc) moving into suction fan.

Starting the Sweeping Operation

Please read the vehicles manual for all the required settings, that are needed to drive and operate the vehicle.

Normal Disk Brush Operation

The following procedure has to be complied, if the normal disk brush sweeping unit is used.

1. Drive the vehicle to the working site. 2. Stop the engine. 3. If the electrical brush load option is fitted, remove the transport locks, that hold

the disk brushes in the raised position. 4. Start the vehicle engine (see manual supplied by the vehicle manufacturer). 5. Switch the vehicle into the slow working mode (Turtle mode) 6. Switch the rotating beacon light on, using the switch on the operating panel. 7. Switch the vehicle hydraulic on, using switch 1 8. Use the switches T2 to adjust the required vehicle motor speed (1,800 – 2,200

rpm), and to select it, if the vehicle has to be controlled, using either the joystick, or the foot pedal. (see manual supplied by the vehicle manufacturer).

9. Start the suction fan hydraulic by pressing the button A. 10. Press the button again, until the display is green, then use the regulator C to

adjust the oil volume for the suction fan speed. Adjust the oil volume to max. 60 l/min.

Page 34: Operating Manual - Trilety · 2020. 9. 9. · Suction Fan Unit The suction fan unit is mounted, elastically supported, at the front of the base framework. The fan unit is fitted with

11. Start the disk brush hydraulic by pressing button B. 12. Press the button again, until the display is green, then use the regulator C to

adjust the brush speed. 13. The disk brushes are swivelled inwards and outwards using the buttons on the

joystick. 14. Switch the spray water nozzles for the suction hood on, using the switch on the

operating panel. If any spray nozzles are activated, the water pump is automatically started. Note: The spray nozzles on the suction hood should always be switched on, to ensure, that the suction tube will not be blocked. (Exception by heavy rain fall, or very wet surface)

15. Switch the spray water nozzles for the disk brushes on, using the switch on the operating panel.

16. Lower the sweeping and suction unit by pressing the button on the joystick shortly. If the button is pressed too long, the sweeping and suction unit is pressed downwards and not in the floating mode.

17. Release the hand brake. The vehicle can now be driven, using either the joystick, or the foot pedal. (vide manual supplied by vehicle manufacturer)

18. To ensure satisfactory sweeping, select the driving speed as required. The driving speed during sweeping depends on the local conditions, the quantity of debris on the road surface and the prevailing traffic conditions Caution: The sweeping gears have to be lifted under all circumstances, while driving over very uneven road surfaces and kerbstones!

General Information for Sweeping • Always watch the disk brushes while sweeping. The disk brushes should only

touch the kerbstones lightly while sweeping (otherwise heavy wear of the brushes and risk of damage to the brush suspension system).

• The swivelling width of the brushes is regulated by adjusting the stop screws behind the swivelling bracket.

Page 35: Operating Manual - Trilety · 2020. 9. 9. · Suction Fan Unit The suction fan unit is mounted, elastically supported, at the front of the base framework. The fan unit is fitted with

TRILETY G.m.b.H. TK M29 V1.02 Engl. 12/2017

• The brush rotation speed is adjusted using the button B and the control regulator C in the cab. Excessive speed increases brush wear and can push the debris beyond the operating area of the suction hood. The speed should be adjusted by the way, that the debris is swept in front of the suction hood, without leaving a strip-like sweep pattern behind the brush (insufficient speed causes strip-like sweeping patterns!)

• Brush load pressure is adjusted, using either the length of the tension spring, or the electrical pressure regulators 1 and 2 on the control panel. The brush load pressure should be increased only, if it is absolutely necessary, because a high load pressure greatly increases brush wear and causes unnecessary stress on the hydraulic unit.

• The bulky debris pick-up flap is located at the front of the suction hood and opens automatically, if large objects (tin cans, plastic bottles, larger stones) are in the sweepings. With the optional electrical bulky debris pick–up flap the distance between the pick-up flap and the ground is infinitely variable. The distance can be varied by using an electrical motor, that is controlled from the cab, using the switch on the operating panel.

Note: The distance between the ground and the flap should be kept as small as possible, as the suction efficiency is greatly diminished, if the distance is too large! • When enough water has been sucked into the hopper, the used water recycling

system can be activated by pressing the switch on the operating panel. • When sweeping at dawn, dusk, or at night, the spotlights* for lighting the

sweeping area can be turned on (switch on the instrument board). • Do not sweep up very large debris, such as boards, large branches, wires etc.;

those debris can be thrown manually inside the hopper through the side observation flaps.

• Avoid sweeping over large obstacles on the sweeping surface in any case, or lift the sweeping units to prevent damage to the brush suspension system.

• If the vehicle has to be reversed for particular reasons, the sweeping and suction gear HAS TO BE raised before reversing. To raise the sweeping and suction unit during the sweeping operation, stop the vehicle, press the button on the joystick until the sweeping and suction unit is completely raised.

• After stopping the vehicle, check the amount of waste in the hopper through the observation flap plus the water level in the water tank on the water level gauge regularly. Note: If the spray nozzles start to spray irregularly while sweeping, the water tank is empty. Immediately stop sweeping and switch the water pump off. Sweeping without water raises excessive dust, causes clogging of the suction hose and increases the wear of the suction fan. ! Caution ! When the maximum permissible axle load has been reached, immediately stop sweeping. The hopper has to be emptied before any further sweeping can be performed.

Used Water Recycling System The used water recycling system allows the sucked up used spray water, in the hopper, to be used again for the suction hose to reduce the amount of dust produced during the sweeping operation and to ensure that no dirt deposits are built on the sides of the suction hose. Note: To immediately use the used water recycling system when sweeping, approx. 100l of water should be filled into the hopper through the connection on the discharge flap.

• Start the normal sweeping operation, as previously described. • Open the electric ball cock valve using the switch on the operating panel.

• Visually check that the used water can be seen flowing over the hose to

the suction hood. • Perform the sweeping operation. • When the vehicle is stopped, always close the ball cock valve using switch

on the operating panel to ensure that the used water system is switched off when the vehicle is not sweeping.

Hopper

Baffle Plate The baffle plate is fitted above the suction air inlet connection piece in the hopper and must be cleaned after each dumping and also checked to ensure that the rubber lining is intact. Note: If the rubber lining is damaged or missing, the baffle plate can be destroyed within a short time! A damaged baffle plate can no longer protect the hopper roof from damage! A worn baffle plate must be immediately replaced!

Filter Screens The filter screens that are fitted on the left and right hand side of the hopper roof must be cleaned after each dumping. Blocked or partly blocked filter screens reduces the suction power Note: The filter plates can be lowered to facilitate cleaning. After cleaning, raise and secure the filter plates.

Air Inlet Ducts The air inlet ducts in the hopper, lead from the filter screens to the suction fan connection, these must be cleaned weekly from any deposits. Open the observation flaps on the sides of the hopper and lower the filter screens. Wash the air inlet ducts using a water spray.

8. When the suction fan is cleaned, stop spraying water into the suction fan. 9. Allow the suction fan running for approx. 1 min so that the water in the suction

fan housing is blown out. Any remaining in the suction fan is automatically drained through a drainage hole at the bottom of the suction fan housing.

10. Switch the suction fan off and remove the vehicle ignition key and wait until the suction fan has stopped rotating.

11. Open the maintenance flap on the side of the suction fan housing. Then

carefully turn the fan by hand and check for damage and dirt on the fan.

Note: Hard-packed layers of dirt on a soiled impeller as well as worn parts of the fan may become loose due to the generated centrifugal force while operating the sweeper and this can cause the suction fan to be out of balance and this can damage the motor bearings of the hydraulic drive.

Sweeping and Suction Unit

The correct adjustment and condition of the sweeping and suction unit is essential to ensure efficient and trouble-free performance. It is necessary that the sweeping and suction unit is checked every time before starting the sweeping procedure. Note: All checks and adjustments described below should be performed on a level surface to ensure the comparability to the specified values. While performing these checks, the hopper must be completely lowered and empty.

Basic Settings

Suction Hood • Rubber side sealing strips:

The side sealing strips should be positioned that they are slightly touching the ground at the rear and approx. 3 – 5 mm above ground at the front.

• Front bulky debris flap: • Rear rubber plate and roller behind suction hose:

The rear sealing plate and roller behind the suction hose are positioned so that they slightly touching the ground.

Disk Brushes The adjustment of the disk brushes is dependent on the prevailing local conditions and the type of debris. • Lateral Tilt:

The disk brush should be tilted slightly forward and outward, to ensure that the front bristles leave a crescent-like pattern of stripes on the road surface while sweeping. The bristles for the brushes should touch the ground in the area between 9.00 – 14.00.

Page 68: Operating Manual - Trilety · 2020. 9. 9. · Suction Fan Unit The suction fan unit is mounted, elastically supported, at the front of the base framework. The fan unit is fitted with

TRILETY G.m.b.H. TK M29 V1.02 Engl. 12/2017

• Optional equipment Page 68

• Overlap with the suction hood: The sweeping pattern from the swung-outwards disk brush should extend approx. 100 - 150 mm into the intake area of the suction hood width.

• Brush Load Pressure: The brush load pressure is the pressure with which the bristles contact the road surface. The brush load pressure is adjusted by either altering the length of the tension spring or the optional pressure regulators on the operating panel. The brush load pressure should only be increased if it is absolutely necessary, since a high download pressure greatly increases brush wear and causes unnecessary stress on the hydraulic unit

• The brush speed: The brush rotating speed is adjusted using the regulator for the oil volume in the cab (see manual supplied by the vehicle manufacturer). The speed should be so adjusted that the debris is easily swept in front of the suction hood without leaving any streaks of dirt. Excessive speed unnecessarily increases the wear of the brushes and road surface and may push the debris beyond the reach of the suction hood. Too low brush speed, leaves streaks of dirt.

Page 69: Operating Manual - Trilety · 2020. 9. 9. · Suction Fan Unit The suction fan unit is mounted, elastically supported, at the front of the base framework. The fan unit is fitted with

Swivelling Front Brush When the optional swivelling front brush is fitted, the normal disk brushes are smaller and are fixed in position and cannot be swivelled. The swivelling front brush should touch the road surface for the left and right hand side by the same amount. The position of the brush is adjusted using the buttons on the joystick in the cab.

The brush speed is automatically regulated with the disk brushes using the regulator in the cab.

Adjustment Procedures If adjustments must be performed on the lowered sweeping and suction unit, ensure that the hydraulic system cannot be actuated as there is a high risk of injury if the unit is accidentally raised!

Suction Hood The rubber side sealing strips should be adjusted so that they are just above the ground at the rear and at the front max 3 – 5 mm above the surface. The sealing strips are fitted with slots so that the position can be adjusted as the rubber strip is worn. If the rubber seal strips are too low, the suction hood is forced backwards as the surface is swept and when the vehicle is steered the suction hood is forced to the side and the rubber seal strips are worn very quickly.

• Loosen the screws that lock the clamping strip in place

• Gently push the rubber sealing strip down until the bottom edge is just touching the ground (max 3mm above ground)

• Tighten the screws for the clamping strip

Page 70: Operating Manual - Trilety · 2020. 9. 9. · Suction Fan Unit The suction fan unit is mounted, elastically supported, at the front of the base framework. The fan unit is fitted with

• Optional equipment Page 70

When the length of the slots in the rubber has been used, the rubber strip can be turned over and the used until this slot length is used. Check daily that the support wheels and rear roller are free to rotate and that the support wheels are steer able.

Bulky Debris Flap The bulky debris flap is automatically positioned so that is just touching the ground. With the electrical controlled bulky debris flap, the position of the flap is adjusted using the switch on the operating panel. The flap should always be closed when sweeping and only opened when a bulky object is swept up. When the bulky debris flap is opened, the suction effect is reduced. Support Wheels and Suction Hood Front The support wheels are used to support the suction hood and should be adjusted so that the floating arm is parallel to the sweeping surface. To adjust the position, lower the suction hood on an even surface and then loosen the locking nuts for the support wheel. Adjust the height of the wheels so that the top edge of the floating arm is approx. 450 mm above the ground. When the wheels are correctly positioned, use the 2 adjustment on the ball joints to adjust the height so that the rubber seal at the front of the suction hood is 3 - 5 mm above the surface.

Rear Rubber Plate and Roller. The rear rubber plate and roller behind the suction hood should be positioned so that they are just toughing the ground during the sweeping operation. If the rubber plate is too high the suction effect is reduced. The position of the rubber plate and roller is adjusted using the chain that supports the rear of the suction hood on the suction hood support. Lower the suction hood and then adjust the chain length so that the rear of the suction hood is just touching the ground.

Disk Brushes

! Caution ! Adjustments should be only performed after the brush drive has been switched off and the vehicle ignition key is removed and put in a safe place! • Lateral tilt:

Loosen the mounting bolt and the upper clamping bolt on the disk brush motor support and adjust the lateral tilt by swivelling the entire brush and motor support. When the correct position is obtained, tighten both nuts.

• Longitudinal tilt: The longitudinal tilt (forward tilt) of the brush is adjusted using a track rod. Loosen the clamping bolts on the track rod and adjust the length of the track rod, the longer the track rod the greater the forward tilt of the brush. When the correct position is obtained, tighten the clamping bolts.

• Changing the brush: Loosen the 3 fixing nuts on the holding plate, remove the worn brush and install the new brush. Re-tighten the fixing nuts.

Swivelling Front Brush Adjustments should be only performed after the brush drive has been switched off and the vehicle ignition key removed and put in a safe place! • Lateral tilt Front Brush

Loosen the mounting bolt and the upper clamping bolt on the disk brush motor support and adjust the lateral tilt by swivelling the entire brush and motor support. When the correct position is obtained, tighten both nuts. This position is normally set for the side that is mainly used either left or right or if both sides are used it is left central.

• Longitudinal tilt Front Brush: The longitudinal tilt (forward tilt) of the swivelling brush is adjusted using the button on the joystick in the cab.

• Brush Load Front Brush: The load pressure for the swivelling front brush is adjusted using the buttons on the joystick that raise and lower the front brush. The brush load pressure should only be increased if it is absolutely necessary, since a high download pressure greatly increases brush wear and causes unnecessary stress on the hydraulic unit

Perform a test sweeping to check the adjustment; repeat the above instructions until the required values are obtained. (Ensure that the safety tips are always observed!)

Hydraulic System

Safety Tips Maintenance or repair measures on the hydraulic system should only be

performed by qualified personnel! Before performing maintenance or repair measures on the hydraulic

system, ensure that appropriate drip pans and oil-binding material are available!

For safety reasons, screwed joints or connections should not be tightened as long as the system is under pressure!

Components or parts of the hydraulic systems, which are under pressure due to static loads, must be relieved of these loads before any maintenance or repairs are started!

Before performing maintenance or repair measures on the hydraulic system, switch the vehicle engine off, remove the ignition key and place it in a safe place!

When possible maintenance or repair measures on the hydraulic system should only be performed on oil-tight and oil-resistant surfaces. If this is not possible, place oil-tight drip pans underneath the machine in the service area. Mineral oil presents an environmental hazard!

Immediately bind any hydraulic oil spillages using oil-binding material! If the hydraulic system has been damaged and oil leaks out during the

sweeping procedure, immediately stop the sweeping procedure and inform the responsible authority (e.g. fire brigade)!

General Information Cleanliness is of the utmost importance while performing maintenance or repairs on the hydraulic system, since a contaminated system inevitably results in service failures and damage to the hydraulic components. Prior to loosening any screwed joints or connections in the hydraulic system, the service area has to be cleaned well. Do not use fibrous or crumbly materials (e.g. cotton waste) for cleaning. To avoid contamination and unnecessary oil leakages, immediately cover open hydraulic connections with dust covers. Immediately replace damaged hydraulic hose or pipe lines. Risk of oil leakages if the pipes or hoses break! When exchanging hydraulic component parts (hoses, pipes etc.), ensure that the components are approved for an operating pressure of at least 250 bar. When laying hoses and pipes, do not exceed the minimum permissible bending radius and avoid distortions. Screwed joints may only be tightened by the torques as specified by the joint manufacturer.
