SECTION 1 DESCRIPTION

1.1 GENERAL INFORMATION The NEXGEN pH Upgrade system is an add on component for the ChlorKing XGEN system. Once installed, the upgrade will maintain the pH of the XGEN sodium hypochlorite production tank at any pH between 7.0 and 8.0. The pH upgrade will eliminate scale build up inside the tank and plumbing, reduce scale buildup on the electrolytic cell and help to maintain the pH in the pool. In addition chemical usage for pH adjustment of the pool will be greatly reduced.

1.2 PRINCIPALS OF OPERATION

A pH probe is mounted in the production tank. pH is monitored by the control box. The control box controls a peristaltic pump that is used to add muriatic acid to the production tank to control pH between 7.0 and 8.0. The control box is connected to the XGEN and is only functional when the XGEN allows pH to be adjusted. 1.3 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS: 120 Volts AC 5 amps 60 Hz FUSING Supply Fuse – 5A Pump Fuse – 3A

2.5 PERISTALTIC PUMP AND MURIATIC ACID PREPARATION Fill the muriatic acid container with the desired dilution of water and muriatic acid. Connect the suction hose from the peristaltic pump to the muriatic acid container. The peristaltic pump for muriatic acid dosing will be on the bottom, the pump on the top is for saturated brine. Be sure to connect the correct pump for muriatic acid dosing. The hose for the muriatic acid pump has been correctly sized for the particular XGEN product installed. Hose sizes are as follows: XGEN 5 - #1 hose XGEN 7.5 - #1 hose XGEN 10 - #1 hose XGEN 20 - #1 hose XGEN 40 - #2 hose The hose size can be found on the plastic part of the hose. For more information on hose size, consult the Stenner Pump manual supplied with the equipment. 2.6 TURNING THE pH SYSTEM ON

WARNING

THE XGEN MUST BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND OPERATING BEFORE STARTING THE pH SYSTEM. The XGEN system must be fully functional and operating before turning the pH system on. With the XGEN operating, turn the pH control box on by moving the on off switch to the up position.

Once the pH system has been turned on the display will read:

For up to 10 minutes process pH will not be controlled while the system conditions the pH probe and checks to see that the XGEN is fully functional. After the conditioning period the XGEN will begin to control process pH. The factory set-point for pH is 7.4.

2.7 ADJUSTING THE pH SET POINT Press the “A” button on the pH control. The pH set point will be displayed. Press “OK”. Adjust the pH set point up or down with the “up” or the “down” arrows. The pH can only be adjusted from 7.0 to 8.0. The control will not allow adjustments outside of this range. When the desired set point is displayed, press “OK”. The new set point is now entered. Press “A” to clear the set point screen or wait 2 minutes and the set point screen will clear on its own.

2.8 ADJUSTING THE pH OVERFEED TIMEOUT NEXGEN pH is designed with pH overfeed timeouts. Anytime power is supplied to the system after power has been disconnected, the system will go through a 10 minute conditioning period. After 10 minutes the system will begin to feed muriatic acid. The feed rules are as follows: 10 minutes of no feed anytime the power has been cycled from off to on 10 minutes of feed time after the 10 minute delay 10 minutes of feed time anytime pH is more than .1 higher than the set point 1 minute of feed time anytime pH is within .1 of the set point The feed rules above are for feeding muriatic acid at no more than 1:1 dilution rates. For dilutions of between 2:1 and 4:1 the 1 minute feed time will need to be adjusted to 2 or 3 minutes and for dilutions above 4:1 the time will need to be increased further. The best way to determine the ideal feed time is to monitor the feed time for several cycles and double the average result. For instance if a 4:1 dilution takes 45 seconds to change pH from 7.5 to 7.4, the feed time should be set to 1 minute 30 seconds. The following steps describe how to change feed times: Press the “ESC” and “OK” buttons at the same time to display the menu below. Use the “+/-“ buttons to highlight “PARAMETER” and press “OK”.
