An airport is often characterized by an important mix of operators (e.g. military airbase, civil FBOs, helicopter activities, gliders and parachute activities etc.), thus a high number of stakeholders with divergent visions and objectives collide in this microcosm. How does it work? An Airfield with a high diversity of operations bunched tightly together:
• The operations have historically evolved to a high optimized setup. This optimization requires a tight coupling amongst most operations. Such a tight coupling linked with mainly VFR operations, which are by nature mostly intractable, generates high demands for cognitive resources on the airborne as well on the ground Air Traffic Management side. The Unit Safety Survey enables to revision of the airfield layout, improved the radio coverage, and improved the visibility on the maneuvering and movement area.
