Brief Description of Activity

This Safe Work Procedure contains risk control measures applicable to spraying of herbicide by Council personnel

Leak of herbicide Visual check that there are no holes or damage that could allow the herbicide to leak from the equipment. Ensure spray unit is in good order and functional including hoses and wand Return any damaged unit to the supervisor and get a replacement unit.

Spill of herbicide Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet Refer to SWP 056 Herbicide Preparation Refer to SWP 011 Manual Handling Use correct container Use of appropriate gloves and a face shield as herbicide is at its strongest before mixing. Used premixed herbicide when available.

Contact with herbicide Inhaling of herbicide fumes

Clean any spill immediately using water and rags including correct disposal of rags

Spraying Muscle strains When working in teams alternate duties. Maximum of two hours to ensure different postures, movement and different muscles are being used. If working alone take a short break to stretch at approximately hourly intervals.
