EZTOUCH PLC PANELS ARE EASY TO OPERATE

A pop-up keypadallows you to easilyenter data into a pre-defined PLC register. The data entered canbe limited within predefined minimumsand maximums. Thekeypad automaticallychanges format tosigned/unsigned deci-mal, floating point, hexadecimal or octal.

Pop-up electronic thumbwheel switchemulates a mechanical thumbwheelswitch. Operators can scroll eachdigit up or down and then hit “Enter”to download to the PLC.

Password securityis available for alldata input objects.Up to eight userdefined passwordlabels of securityare available. Also, variablepasswords can bedefined from PLCregisters.

Just a few reasons operators willlike to use these panels. In designing this product, AVG engineers worked closely withour technical service team to come up with a touch panel thatwould be appreciated by machine operators. Here are just a fewof the things we did:

We let operators choose theirfavorite language. The U.S. is a place of many different nationali-ties and languages. So we gave operators thecapability to configure each object (except thePID face plate) with up to nine languages each

(ASCII characters only). During panel configuration, a“language button” can be configured and the operator can selecttheir favorite language. For example, this means one operatorcan press “Spanish” and all labels are selected to Spanish. Thenext operator can press “English” and all labels will convert toEnglish!

We made it easy for operators toinput data.We included a pop-up keypad that allows you to enter data likea pocket calculator. It automatically selects its format to matchthe data type that is chosen (Signed and Unsigned Decimal,Floating Point, Hexadecimal, Octal). We also included a pop-upgraphical thumbwheel interface switch that allows the operatorto scroll up/down to each digit (up to five digits). All data inputobjects can be preprogrammed with up to eight levels of pass-word protection. The passwords can be preprogrammed in theEZTouch editor or they can be pointers to registers in the PLC.This allows the PLC to change passwords, which is useful for

shift changes or for a supervisor override.

Our objects can be scaled to virtually any sizewith little or no distortion. We used custom-designed vector-based graphics forour objects. Unlike bitmap symbols, which can distortwhen scaled, these objects have very little distortion.

Operators will have better-looking objects that are very fast anduse less memory. Our objects can be configured in up to 128colors, and bitmaps can be imported with 128 colors.

We offer many useful objects thatare hard to find on other brands. We offer graphical trending (great for showing change overtime), PID loop tune face plates (these mimic single loopcontroller faceplates and are essential for many processes), recipedownload (download up to 20 predefined or variable registers tothe PLC at the push of a button), thumbwheel interface, radiobuttons, analog clocks and more, along with many variations ofmeters, switches, lamps, etc. And don’t forget our standardSymbol Factory™ library of over 2,000 factory objects.

A recipe button can download20 values into 20 PLC registersthat have been pre-configured withEZTouch configuration software. Recipevalues can be fixed or variable.

Label languages canbe changed instant-ly. A preconfiguredlanguage button canbe activated by theoperator in order tochange all the labelsto a different lan-guage. Each labelcan be preconfig-ured with up to ninedifferent ASCII-based languages.

128 colors are available for allobjects. Bitmaps can be configuredwith 128 colors.

We named itEZTouch for areason. We know you have better things todo than attend a class on how toconfigure a touch panel! EZTouchis so intuitive that in a few minutesyou should be able to create incred-ible screens without classes and withvery little reading.

Check out the example shown onthis page. We feel confident that in10 minutes you, too, can createscreens with this level of complexity. The only assumptions are:

1) You are familiar with Windows-based environments

2) You have a good understanding ofyour PLC memory’s address for-mats

3) You have spent a little time becom-ing familiar with the configurationsoftware

Let’s walk through an example:1) Click on “Objects” on the main

menu bar.2) Select the object you wish to cre-

ate. In this example, click on“Switches”.

3) Fill in the dialog box with informa-tion (see “General” tab).

a) Click the style of switch youwish to use.

b) Select “Label Text” to createa label.

i) Type the label text.ii) Select label color and

position.c) Select or create a PLC bit

address tag that the “Switch”will activate.

d) Select your desired actuatortype.

e) Type the “on” and“off”phrases.

f) Select color and character size.4) If you need password protection, click on the “Protection” tab at the top of the dialog box.5) If you wish to keep this object (the switch) invisible until a PLC tag is triggered, click on

“Visibility/Details” at the top of the dialog box. You can also add more documentation (name anddescription) about this object from this tab.

6) Click on the “OK” button at the bottom of the dialog box when you are ready to place the object on thescreen.

7) Position your cursor on the screen, click your mouse and stretch the object to your desired shape. Ifyou want to edit the object, simply double click and the configuration dialog box will reappear. Thereis even a “Simulate” button on the dialog box so you can see how this object will work in real time.

8) Now perform the previous seven steps to configure any other object and voilá, you’re an expert! Thepower of an HMI package in our programming software costs only $140.00.

We packed our EZTouch panels with powerful graphical featuresthat can be used to convert PLC data into powerful operatorinformation. Check out a few of our favorite features:

Powerful trend graphs tell a storyOperators will love seeing how certain process variables changeover time by looking at our informative trend graphs objects.Intuitive, fill-in-the-blank configuration allows you to select upto six recording pens. Trends keep up to 999 data points and canbe collected by seconds, minutes, hours or days! You can evenback up and see previous data.

Insightful PID faceplatesDrop in a PID faceplate to quickly view your setpoint andprocess variable. Put the PID faceplate next to a trend graph forincredibly informative temperature control!

Multi-state indicatorsMulti-state indicators allow you to show various states or condi-tions of a process by setting a bit or by selecting a messagenumber. You also have the option to print a called message thatcan include embedded variable data, and display it as an indi-cator light or message.

Powerful alarm reportingThree types of alarm reports are available with EZTouch. If analarm is triggered by the PLC (low level, high level, limit switch, etc.), a pre-configured alarm button can automatically pop upon the screen. Once activated, alarms will be automaticallydisplayed at the bottom of the current screen. The operator canthen press a pre-configured alarm button to view alarm history, alarm counts (the number of times each alarm has been set) andspecific alarm details.

Recipe download buttonUp to 20 values stored in the memory of the EZTouch panel orin PLC registers can be downloaded into the variable memory ofthe connected PLC by pressing a pre-configured recipe button. This allows an operator with proper password protection tomodify PLC parameters on the fly. By adding numeric entryobjects, you can modify the recipe values onscreen.

128 colors and symbol libraryMany touch panels limit your switches, graphs, text, etc. to eight

or 16 colors. We give you 128 colors so you’ll see the difference. We also have a built-in symbol library of over 2,000 symbolsincluding pumps, valves, etc. These symbols allow you to create extremely informative screens.

Our objects offer the best scalabilityAll of our user-created objects are built in vector graphics. This allows objects to be cleanly scaled to virtually any size. Vectorgraphics are crisp, fast and use less memory. Most other touch screen products use bitmaps, which are typically easier to design forthe manufacturer, but don’t give you the same benefits that vectors do. Standard memory in bitmap products must be enlarged tohandle less efficient objects.

BETTER GRAPHICS, BETTER RESULTS

EVEN OUR COMMUNICATIONS ARE PRACTICAL!No-brainer cables connectto many PLCsWe offer low cost molded cables to connect yourEZTouch panels to most of the PLCs supported. We had these cables custom-designed to make iteasy to attach our touch panel!

Program onlineEZTouch panels have both a PLC communicationport and a programming port. This allows you toconfigure the EZTouch while it is connected onlineto a PLC. Since you’ll see your edited changesalmost instantaneously, startup time will be greatlyreduced! With EZTouch, you won’t spend yourtime swapping cables.

Attach multiple EZTouchpanels to our PLCsAll of our PLC families support EZTouch panels. Our DL05, DL06, DL205, DL305 and DL405families also have multiple communication ports, each of which can support an EZTouch panel. Ifyou need more panels, just add extra ports to theDL205 or DL405 family PLCs by installing datacommunication modules.

Connect EZTouch to a DataHighway Plus networkMany EZTouch models are available with aninstalled option card to connect to your Allen-Bradley Data Highway Plus network.

Ethernet for high speedand flexibility Our touch panels are fast, but they are limited bythe speed of the PLC serial communication port, which is often 19.2K or 38.4K. Fortunately, someof our PLCs offer 10Mbaud Ethernet communica-tions through an optional communication module. An ethernet card can be installed in the EZTouchpanels to communicate to these products.

More Industrial NetworksMany EZTouch models can be ordered with pre-installed network cards for DeviceNet, Profibus,MODBUS TCP/IP, MODBUS Plus, orEthernet/IP.

WHICH TOUCH PANEL IS BEST FOR YOUR PLC?

Compare our panels with the competition’s

Which unit looks better to you? We wanted to show an apples-to-apples comparison ofsome very simple objects. Check out the touch panelsabove. We configured four basic objects for each ofthese units: a bar graph, two square buttons and adigital clock. The rule for this comparison was: createobjects by using only a standard single object (i.e., can’tuse other objects to create tic marks, borders, labels, etc). Can you see the difference? All EZTouch objectsare already complete with tic marks, labels, borders andan attractive 3-D appearance!

Our panels cost less and do more!EZTouch panels are very practical to purchase. Weoffer you our best price right up front. It’s called our listprice. Other vendors have been known to regularlydiscount from their list price. Simple math will showthat they have to give you a huge discount off their“list” price to get to our everyday low price. (You don’thave to spend hours in negotiation or commit to hugevolumes to get our price.) Even if they meet our price, they’ll have to add more features. So check out thesecomparisons and see which product is best for yourbudget and application.
