GENERAL SAFETY RULES

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONSThe term “power tool” in all of the warnings listed belowrefers to your battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

WORK AREA SAFETY

Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite accidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosive atmos-pheres, such as in the presence of flammable liq-uids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks whichmay ignite the dust or fumes.

Keep children and bystanders away while operatinga power tool. Distractions can cause you to losecontrol.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wet condi-tions. Water entering a power tool will increase the riskof electric shock.

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use com-mon sense when operating a power tool. Do notuse a power tool while you are tired or under theinfluence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A momentof inattention while operating power tools may result inserious personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balanceat all times. This enables better control of the powertool in unexpected situations.

Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain longhair. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can becomeentangled.

Do not use on a ladder or unstable support. Stablefooting on a solid surface enables better control of thepower tool in unexpected situations.

TOOL USE AND CARE

Do not permit children to use this power tool. It isnot a toy.

Do not use the power tool if the switch does notturn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be con-trolled with the switch is dangerous and must berepaired.

Store idle power tools out of the reach of childrenand do not allow persons unfamiliar with the powertool or these instructions to operate the power tool.Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrainedusers.

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment orbinding of moving parts, breakage of parts and anyother condition that may affect the power tool’soperation. If damaged, have the power tool repairedbefore use. Many accidents are caused by poorlymaintained power tools.

Use the power tool or accessories in accordancewith these instructions and in the manner intendedfor the particular type of power tool, taking intoaccount the working conditions and the work to beperformed. Use of the power tool for operations differ-ent from those intended could result in a hazardous sit-uation.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES

Do not use Sure-Grip™ on a hot bulb. Turn off lightswitch and allow previously lit light bulb to cool.

Do not use Sure-Grip™ on free hanging light fix-tures. Only use on light sockets and fixtures that arefixed in place.

Remove all batteries from the power tool if you willnot be using the power tool for an extended time.

Know your power tool. Read operator’s manualcarefully. Learn its applications and limitations, aswell as the specific potential hazards related to thispower tool. Following this rule will reduce the risk ofelectric shock, fire, or serious injury.

Do not place battery tools or their batteries near fireor heat. This will reduce the risk of explosion and pos-sibly injury.

Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode in thepresence of a source of ignition, such as a pilotlight. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury,never use any cordless product in the presence of openflame. An exploded battery can propel debris andchemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately.

Under extreme usage or temperature conditions,battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in con-tact with your skin, wash immediately with soapand water, then neutralize with lemon juice or vine-gar. If liquid gets into your eyes, flush them withclean water for at least 10 minutes, then seekimmediate medical attention. Following this rule willreduce the risk of serious personal injury.

FCC Statement: This equipment generates, uses, andcan radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installedand used according to the instructions, may causeharmful interference to radio communications.However, there is no guarantee that interference will notoccur in a particular installation. If this equipment doescause harmful interference to radio or television recep-tion, which is found by turning the equipment off andon, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interfer-ence by one or more of the following measures:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

KNOW YOUR SURE-GRIP™ LIGHT BULBCHANGERSee Figure 1The safe use of this product requires an understanding ofthe information on the tool and in this operator’s manualas well as a knowledge of the project you are attempting.Before use of this product, familiarize yourself with alloperating features and safety rules.

ADJUSTABLE EXTENSION POLEThe adjustable extension pole included with your Sure-Grip™ fully extends to 6 ft. for out-of-reach light bulbs.

SURE-GRIP™ TECHNOLOGYThe Sure-Grip™ System creates a vacuum seal to secure-ly hold almost any light bulb.

REMOTE CONTROLButtons on the remote control allow the operator to grip,release, install, and remove a light bulb. The remote con-trol can be conveniently attached to the motor drive orextension pole using the hook-and-loop pad.

MOTOR DRIVEThe motor drive’s articulating head can be positioned foreasy access to the light bulb. The motorized drive rotatesthe suction head to either install or remove the light bulb.

SUCTION HEADSTwo suction heads are provided for use with different sizedlight bulbs.

WARNING:If any parts are damaged or missing do not operatethis tool until the parts are replaced. Failure to heedthis warning could result in serious personal injury.

WARNING:To prevent accidental starting that could cause seriouspersonal injury, always remove the batteries from thetool when assembling parts.

WARNING:Do not attempt to modify this tool or create acces-sories not recommended for use with this tool. Anysuch alteration or modification is misuse and couldresult in a hazardous condition leading to possibleserious personal injury.

UNPACKINGThis product requires assembly.

Carefully remove the tool and any accessories fromthebox. Make sure that all items listed in the packinglist are included.

Inspect the tool carefully to make sure no breakage ordamage occurred during shipping.

Do not discard the packing material until you havecarefully inspected and satisfactorily operated the tool.

ATTACHING ADJUSTABLE EXTENSION POLETO MOTOR DRIVESee Figure 2

Twist threaded end of extension pole counterclockwiseinto threaded receptacle of motor drive.

Turn locking screw on motor drive clockwise to secure.

Turn bottom portion of pole clockwise to extend orretract top portion of pole to desired length.

Turn bottom portion of pole counterclockwise to lock-pole into position.

NOTE: Any standard extension pole can be used with theSure-Grip™ system. When fully extended, length of thepole and assembled Sure-Grip™ system should notexceed 12 ft.

ASSEMBLY

ATTACHING/REMOVING SUCTION HEADTwo suction head attachments have been provided withthe Sure-Grip™. Use the small suction head to changesmaller sized light bulbs such as R20, PAR 20, R16, PAR16, and A19 bulbs. Use the large suction head to changelarger sized light bulbs such as R40, PAR 38-40, R30, andPAR 30 bulbs. (Figure 4)

NOTE: Do Not use Sure-Grip™ on light bulbs withexposed textured surfaces.

NOTE: Before initial use, wipe the Sure-Grip™ seal with adamp cloth to remove any residue.

To attach suction head:

Choose appropriate sized suction head for the bulb.

Align groove in Sure-Grip™ system with groove inbottom of suction head. (Figure 5)

Snap suction head into place.

To remove suction head:

Depress attachment release lock on Sure-Grip™ system.

Remove suction head.

Release attachment release lock.

The remote control is used to activate the Sure-Grip™system and motor drive. Use the hook-and-loop pad toattach the remote control to the extension pole or motordrive.NOTE: The remote control buttons should face theoperator.

To attach the hook-and-loop pad to extension pole:

Wipe pole with a clean cloth to remove any residue.

Grip extension pole in a comfortable and operationalposition.

Remove backing from hook-and-loop pad and stickpad in position just above where you are gripping thepole.

NOTE: The hook-and-loop pad should be placed on thepole in such a way as to allow comfortable operation ofthe remote control buttons when the remote is attached tothe pad. The remote is designed to be used by the upperhand on the pole. In this manner, you can see the buttons,and the indicator light, showing that the unit is transmit-ting. (Figure 6)

Apply firm and even pressure to the pad, making sureno air bubbles form underneath and the pad fullyadheres to the pole.

WARNING:Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you care-less. Remember that a careless fraction of a secondis sufficient to inflict serious injury.

WARNING:Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses withsideshields when operating tools. Failure to do socould result in objects being thrown into your eyes,resulting in possible serious injury.

WARNING:Do not use any attachments or accessories not rec-ommended by the manufacturer of this tool. The useof attachments or accessories not recommended canresult in serious personal injury.

WARNING:Battery tools are always in operating condition.Therefore, switch should always be locked when notin use or carrying at your side.

WARNING:Do not use Sure-Grip™ on free hanging light fixtures.Only use on sockets and fixtures that are fixed in place.

REMOVING/INSTALLING LIGHT BULBSee Figure 7-9

Push the power button on the motor drive to turn onthe drive. The green activation light should light up.

Slide the ON/OFF switch on the Sure-Grip™ system tothe ON ( I ) position. The Sure-Grip™ system will brieflyvibrate when turned on.

NOTE: The power light on the Sure-Grip™ system shouldbe green. When the battery in the Sure-Grip™ system islow, the power light will change from green to red. Changethe battery immediately. Refer to Changing the Batterieslater in this manual.

ADJUSTING SURE-GRIP™ FOR USE See Figure 10.

Turn motor drive pivot knob counterclockwise.

Pivot motor drive head to desired angle.

Turn pivot knob clockwise to lock into position.

OPERATION

Before using the Sure-Grip™ system, push each remotecontrol button to ensure the motor drive and Sure-Grip™system are working correctly.

To remove light bulb:

NOTE: Allow light bulb to cool before placing suction headover bulb.

Place suction head over center of light bulb in fixturewhile keeping Sure-Grip™ body in line with socket.(Figure 11)

Press grip/release button on remote control to acti-vatesuction. You will hear a low-pitched buzzingsound. (Figure 12)

Gently push the Sure-Grip™ system against the lightbulb until you hear a high-pitched buzzing sound. Thismeans the Sure-Grip™ has successfully attached ontothe light bulb.

NOTE: Make sure suction head is completely attached tolight bulb by gently pulling Sure-Grip™ system away frombulb. If suction head releases, the Sure-Grip™ has notattached onto the light bulb.

Press and hold the OUT button on remote control. Themotor drive will begin to unscrew the light bulb. (Figure 12)

Release remote control OUT button once light bulb iscompletely unscrewed from socket.

Remove bulb from socket and lower pole.

Grasp light bulb with your hand.

Press and hold grip/release button on Sure-Grip™ withopposite hand for approximately three seconds untilsuction is deactivated. Bulb will be released from theSure-Grip™ system. (Figure 13)

CAUTION:If more than one unit is being used in the same loca-tion, keep a minimum distance of 20 ft. between theunits to prevent interference of wireless remote con-nections of one or both units.

OPERATION

To install light bulb:

Press grip/release button on Sure-Grip™ to active suc-tion. You will hear a low-pitched buzzing sound. (Figure 14)

Gently push the light bulb head against the center ofthe Sure-Grip™ suction head until you hear a high-pitched buzzing sound. This means the Sure-Grip™has successfully attached onto the light bulb.

NOTE: Make sure suction head is completely attachedto light bulb by gently pulling bulb. If suction head releas-es, the Sure-Grip™ has not attached onto the light bulb.

Raise light bulb to light socket.

Press and hold the IN button on remote control. Themotor drive will begin to screw the light bulb into thelight socket. (Figure 15)

Release remote control IN button once light bulb iscompletely screwed into socket.

Press grip/release button on remote control for approx-imately three seconds until suction is deactivated. TheSure-Grip™ system will release the bulb. (Figure 16)

NOTE: Make sure light bulb is completely screwed intolight socket and secured before pressing remote controlgrip/release button.

Slide the ON/OFF switch on the Sure-Grip™ system tothe OFF (O) position and push power button on motordrive to turn off until next use. (Figure 17)

WARNING:If the Sure-Grip™ system fails to release the bulb, DONOT pull on the bulb. Press the grip/release buttonon the remote control to activate the suction. Next,follow the Remove Light Bulb procedures to removethe bulb from the suction head. Reinstall the lightbulb one more time. If it still fails to release, removethe bulb and change the battery in the suction head.

WARNING:Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petrole-umbased products, penetrating oils, etc., come incontact with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage,weaken or destroy plastic which may result in seriouspersonal injury.

WARNING:To avoid serious personal injury, always remove thebatteries from the tool when cleaning or performingany maintenance.

WARNING:Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses withside shields during power tool operation.

STORAGEA storage rack with a “key hole” hanging feature is pro-vided for convenient storage of the fully-assembled Sure-Grip™ system. Screws and wall anchors should beinstalled so that the center distance is 3 in.NOTE: Store assembled Sure-Grip™ only as instructed.

Storing Sure-Grip™ system:

Snap fully-assembled Sure-Grip™ into storage rackbetween system and motor drive.

Storing suction heads:

Align groove of suction head with side groove of stor-age rack and slide into place. (Figure 18)

Storing extension pole:

Remove Sure-Grip™ system from extension pole.

Hang pole using hanger cap located at the end of pole.(Figure 19)

NOTE: Store extension pole separately from assembledSure-Grip™ system when using hanger cap.

CHANGING THE BATTERIESThe remote control, motor drive, and Sure-Grip™ systemare each powered by a standard 9V battery. When the bat-tery in the Sure-Grip™ system is low, the power light willchange from green to red. Change the battery immediately.

To change the battery in the remote control, motordrive, or Sure-Grip™ system:

Remove the battery cover from the unit.

Remove the battery and replace with new 9V battery.

Replace the battery cover.
