Naval Academy
Eligibility Requirements Must be a U. S. Citizen (no ifs, ands, or buts)At least 17 years of age and must not have passed your 23rd birthday before July 1st of the year entering the AcademyGood morale character and have no court martial convictions, civilian felony convictions. Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS)
Naval Academy Preparatory School
Provides intensive instruction and preparation for the academic, military and physical training at the Naval Academy. Convenes July of each year and runs until May of the following year. Located in Newport, RI
NAPS (cont) Those that apply for the Naval Academy and are not accepted are automatically CONSIDERED for NAPS.
Officer Candidate School (OCS)
What is it? Commissioning program for individuals possessing, at a minimum, a bachelors degree from an accredited college. 13 week intensive officer training and indoctrination located in Pensacola Florida.
OCS AdvantagesE-4 and below are designated officer candidates and are advanced to E-5 during training (E-5 and above are designated officer candidates in their present pay grade)
OCS is far less competitive than the other officer programs.
OCS Qualifications
Must have attained a minimum of a bachelors
degree.
Have good morale character and no NJPs, military or
civilian court convictions for past 3 years.
Must take the Officers Aptitude Rating test. No
minimum score required, but scores below 35 are not competitive.

Must be recommended by your Commanding Officer
Minimum of 19 years of age. Maximum age depends
on what field you are applying.

Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP)
What is MECPNurse Corps commissioning program specifically intended to provide an advancement pathway to a commissioned status in the Nurse Corp on the active duty list.
What MECP is notPrecursor to medical school nor for academic programs leading to certification or licensure as a physical therapist, physician assistant, or other health care specialty.
MECP Qualifications
Must be serving on active duty as enlisted personnel
in any rating
Have good morale character and no NJPs, military or
civilian court convictions for past 3 years.
Must be a U. S. citizen
No drug use
High school graduate (GED is acceptable as long as they are issued by the Department of Education)
MECP Qualifications (cont)
Must have a minimum of 30 transferable semester credits
of undergraduate study completed
Must have already applied for acceptance or transfer into a bachelors degree program for Nursing during the same fiscal year in which the selection board is held (Must provide letter in package)
Must be able to complete degree in 36 months
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
SAT or ACT test within the last 3 years (Minimum SAT is
1000 and ACT is 42)
Limited Duty Officer (LDO) and Chief Warrant Officer (CWO)
What is it?The LDO and CWO programs provide commissioning opportunities for qualified senior enlisted personnel and Chief Warrant Officers (LDO).
LDO Qualifications U. S. Citizen (Not waiverable)
High School Graduate (GED acceptable)
Be serving in paygrade E6 or above
(E6 candidates must have at least 1 year service as a First Class Petty Officer and have successfully competed in the Navy-wide exam for CPO receiving a final multiple equal to or greater than the minimum for E7 selection board eligibility)
LDO Qualifications Minimum 8 years, but not more than 16 years of total
active Naval service
Chief Warrant Officers applying for the LDO program who have completed at least 3 years as a CWO and no more than 19 years of total active service will be appointed to LTJG
CWO Qualifications U. S. Citizen (Not waiverable)
High School Graduate (GED acceptable)
Be serving in paygrade E7 or above
(E6 candidates who are selected for CPO are also eligible to apply for CWO)
Minimum 12 years, but not more than 24 years of total active Naval service
Master Chief Petty Officers applying for CWO who have completed at least 2 years of service as a MCPO will be appointed to CWO3
Seaman to Admiral (STA-21)
STA-21 Advantages
