“Opportunities don’t
happen. You create them”
- Chris Gosser
CEO
How about this weather!
What a super few weeks weather wise – why is that important, well our sales are very strong and I
am seeing some record weeks from stores around the country. The increases are not new but have
been impressive lately. We are also seeing stronger sales in petrol which always helps shop sales
in the NND@Gull stores with increased foot traffic. I am happy to see this group growth as we have
collectively targeted this and to see it coming through strongly is very pleasing. We need to contin-
ue to focus on key areas such as food to go, coffee and milkbar as these are important areas of
opportunity both for sales and profitability. Keep up the good work and ensure you have the peo-
ple and stock to keep up with this wonderful demand!
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you all, I sincerely hope you have a great Christmas and enjoy time with family
and friends. I know it’s not always easy as store owners to get the time you want over Christmas
but hopefully you can enjoy the time you have. In the office it’s also a challenge as we juggle an
increase in workload amongst shorter weeks and allowance for those on holiday. It’s all part of the
fun of owning a business!
With the end of the year approaching it’s also a good time to say thank you to everyone in the
group. Thank you to Franchisees, Franchisees staff, suppliers, the support team and ultimately our
customers. I am sure a Merry Christmas
New Franchisees
We welcome two new Franchisees this month with Ajay Sharma at Te Ngae (Rotorua) and Harpreet
Singh at Swanson (Auckland). Both took over their businesses 1 December. We wish them well and
happy trading over the holidays.
Customer Theft
Shoplifting costs New Zealand businesses more than $1.2 billion annually. I would strongly suggest
if you have not caught a shoplifter in the last 3 months – you haven’t looked.

ROAD TRIP, Snack Stop – social media campaign
Because we won’t be actively promoting Tuesday deals
during this time it leaves us with a bit of a window. We
will educate our customers that they can get all their
road trip supplies at their local Night ‘n Day. The promo-
tional content is supported by a visual image of a back
seat of a car full of 3 young trendy millennials holding
champion Night ‘n Day products. Similar to what 7-
eleven did a couple years back below…except better
because it’s ours. This will run from the 20th December
2017 – 15th January 2018. Peak road trip season.

Our call to action phase is now live. You should have received your FREE water from Frucor by now
including all advertising materials. To ensure the success of this promotion it requires longevity.
That’s why we have arranged special pricing to purchase more 500mL NZ Natural Still Water from
Frucor at a heavily discounted price.
They will give us a 40% discount on the product and on top of this you recieve your normal 9.5%
rebate (off invoiced cost) Below is the current pricing on the top line. (with 4% DEA discount) and the
proposed second line (with 40% discount). Refer to the case prices in purple as these are after dis-
count.
When you are close to running out of your free stock allocation you must order more which will be
provided to you at the discounted price above. I will let you know when this deal expires when they
get back to me.
IMPORTANT
The free stock you received from Frucor is not to be sold individually or outside the terms of this pro-
motion. When we run our reports and find more units were sold rather than a gift with purchase,
your store will be charged. I understand some customers may just grab a bottle and only wish to
purchase that and not the 2 x FRESH! products. However, just be aware that you will be charged for
them. I will leave it in your hands regarding how and when you tell customers at your store.

Vege/fruit labels - Waiting on more stores to order labels!
We have now sourced flexible and upmarket signage and a display theme for our fruit/vege area.
Here is a picture of what Murray did at his Octagon store some months ago and it looks great. You
can order the black chalk stickers and backing cards from [email protected]. When you
do this you will need to let him know how many you require and list the names of all the fruit and
vege products you retail for the cards to be printed.
Baskets and pegs can be purchased from Kmart. And although you cannot see it in the image, in-
side each basket is imitation grass used as a lining to uplift it even further. You can get these from
Bunnings. Order via the links provided below.
You will then need to purchase special chalk pens so you can easily write, erase and change prices
on the black chalk labels whenever you see fit without having to replace them . These can also be
found at Kmart.

Any operational or IT queries are via your field manager. The troubleshooting manual should be
able to assist the majority of issues in the first instance, your field manager is your next level of sup-

CCL or Triquestra – this is chargeable to stores at their standard charge out rates
If Wesley is required to assist – this will also be chargeable to sites at $110.00 +gst per hour, Mon-
day – Friday 8am – 5pm (dependent on availability), $145.00 + gst per hour outside office hours.
Minimum 15 mins charge.
Any urgent queries – ie site down and unable to trade are to be directed to your field manager in
the first instance, and in the event you cannot access them, contact another field manager. This is
the process during and outside office hours.
If you are unable to contact your field manager, they may be on another call or temporarily out of
zone when travelling, leave a message, or text message the urgency to ensure their attention.
Urgent notification is required for security breaches, unable to trades etc either by phone call or text
to your field manager.

It's great to see so many stores progressing well with their Bracken training and encouraging to
see many staff and Franchisees starting to work through the latest modules. Great work!
Continue the training journey………
When a new staff member starts, please ensure you give them the correct training code which
has the most up-to-date information. This code is: 50921B.
For those staff members who have completed their initial training (Induction and Product Lines), for
further development, they should progress to the Advanced Training pathway. They will need to
login to their online Bracken and under their account settings, add the code below and
push 'save'. Approval for access to these modules once the request has been sent, will be deter-
mined according to criteria set at SISC.
The code for these advanced training modules is: 203358.
A reminder that Food Production training modules are now available. These are designed specifi-
cally for staff who are involved in the production of food. Again, access to this pathway is deter-
mined by criteria set at SISC.
The code for these food production modules is: D0D541.
These are the Advanced Franchisee modules now available. Should you not see them when you
login, please use the code: C7AA2F. Again, access to this pathway is determined by criteria set at
SISC.

Christmas Security
This is a reminder to make sure your till gets emptied regularly and any cash remaining in the till is
kept to a minimum. It is also an important time to make sure your security systems are working
correctly and the office secured at all times. Please ensure cigarettes and tobacco kept to a mini-
mum as required on the shop floor at all time. It is a right time to make sure all the staff have com-
pleted the security module of Bracken regarding the process in event of robberies.
Review the extra change required over the holiday period. It is important to have pre arrangements
for banking or a security firm to pick up cash takings frequently as there will be a lot of cash onsite
creating an unnecessary security risk to your site and your staff. Please find the attached details for
ArmourGuard for booking cash pick up services

The Support Centre is shut on statutory holidays closed 25th & 26
th December, and 1
nd and 2
nd Janu-
ary
To ensure we meet all your requirements over this period within tighter time frames and with some
staff away on holidays, please note the following:
1. Wages will be processed and finalised on the Friday of each pay cycle. The transfer to staff will
be made as per usual. All direct debits from your accounts will be processed on the Friday of the
pay week to ensure the option of Direct Debit can still be made. Please note this is one working day
earlier than usual. So that these can be processed in adequate time, please ensure rosters are
sent by close of business on the Thursday for the weeks ending the 24th December and 31
st Janu-
ary. This will involve estimating the Thursday night, Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts. Any chang-
es to these shifts can be corrected in the next pay cycle and should be communicated via email
with the next roster you send in. Wages will return to normal for the week ending 7th January and
processed on the 8th of January.
2. GST for the period ended 30 November 2016 is due on 15 January 2017. We plan to have most of
these out before the New Year, but will be no later than 5th January. If you do not want these
emailed to your normal email address for GST, please let me know as soon as possible.
3. The week ending 24th December will be processed as per usual with the payment being debited
on Wednesday 27th December. Weeklys will then be put on hold for two weeks during the reduced
working weeks being the week ending 31st December and week ending 7
th January. Processing will
be completed as per normal on the week ending 14th January with the full three weeks being debit-
ed on the 16th January.
Cut off dates/ changes for Christmas
1. Turnover reports are due by Tuesday evening over the Christmas / New Year period.
2. Please courier information where possible. Our postie is having a holiday, so we will have limited
deliveries of mail between 21st December and 11th January. We will courier from the Support Centre
as well.
3. Packaging orders need to be in by the 13th December for all orders up to the 11th Janu-
ary . Most of you have had shop visits / still having them this month, so I assume there is only a
small amount still required. If this date is going to be a problem please advise immediately.
4. All monthly information and creditors should be at SISC by the 9th January (this will require courier
by the 4th January). Please ensure you get December information in as early as possible in the New
Year. We will have a back log of information to catch up on anyway, so would appreciate these as
early as possible next month. Please ensure you are sending mail regularly through the rest of
December and January.

IN THE NEWS
Congrats VJ and his wife of Stoke Night ’n Day in Nelson on the new arrival of their baby boy, George.
Karen from Omahu in Hastings ran the New York Half Marathon
She had this to say. First marathon - a year ago I would of been lucky to walk a km - took a couple of my
grandkids on a 6km walk for cancer, had a few adult beverages after that and the ny marathon came on tv -
and good ole me said “I can do that” - so a year later I did!
Truly an amazing experience, not only was I chosen as a delegate for the opening ceremony but I had a grin
on my face the whole way round when running - despite the fact I felt like I was 120 on Monday morning, I
am fine and have a beautiful medal to show off!!
Here’s what my medal looks like hanging on the wall of fame above my name ...
