08.31.18 “A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” - Oprah Winfrey Dear AHS Parents, WOW! Today’s Freshman Orientation was another HUGE success! Although my role was limited in scope (our staff and student leaders make it happen!), the bits and pieces that I witnessed were truly inspiring! We saw smiles and heard laughter throughout the entire day. In addition to the zany games and silly activities, our Link Leaders led really great small group discussions with their Link Crews. The students had a chance to acclimate to the building in advance of Tuesday, which really helps them grow more comfortable. I had a chance to speak to the entire Class of 2022 at the start of the day. I LOVE this. I was incredibly impressed by these young men and women! They were polite, respectful, and attentive the ENTIRE time I spoke. My message to them was not unfamiliar to our upperclassmen who were present: Be real. Be kind. Be better. It’s not always easy, but it’s that simple. The future is BRIGHT at Anderson High School! I can’t wait to see all of our students return to the building on Tuesday as we kick-off the 2018-2019 school year!! Have a GREAT (and long!) weekend! Rob MOMENTS OF THE WEEK:

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: It’s been incredible to see the amount of work that has happened just in the past couple weeks! Our hallways and classrooms have all be waxed and cleaned and are ready for students! We have BRAND NEW CLASSROOM FURNITURE throughout the academic wing of the building, which is very exciting! Our classrooms all have new technology (ex. Projectors, TV monitors, Chromeboxes), most of which will be operational on Tuesday. Perhaps most exciting, however, is the fact that we have A/C for the first time EVER in classrooms! Naturally, there are many “punch list” items that will be worked on over the next several weeks (ex. Painting touch-ups, caulking around some windows, etc.). Soon, we will begin the next Phase of the project, which includes renovation of the old weight room and old wrestling room! Exciting stuff!! FROM THE COUNSELORS: While change is exciting, we understand that it can sometimes come with questions as well. As we integrate two new school counselors, we know many students will have a different counselor this year. If you and your student feel it is necessary to ease this transition, a meeting can be arranged with you, your student, your student's new counselor, and your student's previous counselor. Please contact your student's new counselor in order to discuss options for a conversation regarding the transition. STUDENT PARKING INFORMATION: Good news! We have quite a few extra student parking spaces for sale after our Senior and Junior Parking Lotteries. Students with a valid driver's license can purchase a pass from Mrs. Birk in the main office during a Study Hall or Lunch period starting Tuesday September 4th. Bring your driver's license and cash or check for $125 (made out to Anderson High School). Complete the Student Parking Application before coming to the office. Questions? Contact Mr. Kyle Fender ([email protected] ext. 2930) REMIND NOTIFICATIONS: One of the ways in which I communicate with students and parents is through the Remind App. Please consider adding yourself and your student to the appropriate group by clicking the link below:

We will have collection bins throughout the building that evening.
