The technology
BACnet-Compliant
Optergy EMS is a suite of server-based modules, which provides the user interface for BACnet-based building management installations. Unlike some BACnet vendor systems, Optergy uses native BACnet protocols and allows communication with all systems and installations complying with the BACnet standard.
Thin Client User Interface
Client interaction with Optergy is via a web-based thin client. No software other than a web browser is required on the client machine. It does not require the client to support the Java Runtime Environment nor are applets downloaded to the client.
Client Permissions
All pages delivered to the client are automatically generated based on the client’s permissions and the security requirements of the selected data. Secure access via user identification token and password. Password policy can be configured to client’s needs including automatic password expiry dates.
Data Security and Client Authentication
A secure connection between the browser and the Optergy EMS portal is established using SSL to ensure data encryption. Use of client and server certificates can ensure that the client and server are authenticated to each other.
Connectivity
The Optergy EMS portal uses TCP/IP, Modbus and BACnet/IP Annex J protocol to communicate with external devices.
BACnet is a data communication protocol for building automation and control networks. It is an ANSI and ISO standard and has been recognised by international standard. BACnet is the predominant standard specified for BMS installations.
Optergy connects to third party systems through an open source SQL database.
The first step to optimising your building or facility’s energy usage is to have access to real-time reporting.
What types of buildings?• Commercial office buildings• Retails stores and distribution outlets• Hotels• Hospitals• Educational institutions• Data centres
Who would use it and why?
Facility managers
• Benchmarking• Drive performance improvements• Monitor performance• Identify waste & erroneous operation
Building owners
• Minimise outgoings• Improve ROI of buildings• Add attractiveness to tenants
Environmental managers
• Track building ratings• Monitor air quality• Operating hours• Net lettable areas• GHG emissions• Water use• Energy use
Finance managers
• Performance against budgets• ROI of improvements & upgrades
Maintenance staff
• Performance• Identify waste & erroneous operation
Tenants and other building users
• Performance• Costs incurred
Planners & designers
• Hard data on actual performance• Fine-tune future designs
Building managers
• Lease tracking & planning• Predictions of outgoings
What are the benefits? The key benefits of using Optergy all add up to one thing – a positive impact on your bottom line. As well as helping minimise your environmental footprint, Optergy’s detailed energy usage reports identify opportunities to reduce costs.
Feature: Real-time monitoring
Benefits:
• Ability to respond promptly to problems• Energy use can control maximum demand• See data now, not at the end of the month• You retain control of your data
Feature: Energy tariff calculator
Benefits:
• Compare supplier tariffs using historical data• Validate supplier bills and charges to avoid
over-charging or under-charging• Generate bills for arbitrary periods at any time
Feature: Demand-side energy management capability
Benefits:
• Maximum demand reduction and control• Can time-shift loads to suit lower tariffs• Potential for Demand Side Response with
associated financial benefits
How does it work? Collects raw data
• Connects to meters to acquire data – pulse meters for electricity input and export – smart meters for sub-circuits – water meters for water imports and consumption by cooling towers, toilet flushers, etc. – gas meters• Collects broad variety of data – energy & water consumption – flow rates and temperatures – operation of lighting and plant – incoming and sub-meter data• Communicates with other building systems such
as BMS, Access Control, Lighting, etc
Provides tools to analyse, compare and aggregate the data
• Benchmarking building bill verification compliance time of use and unexpected plant operation tenant billing
Logs the data
• All raw data is logged into a powerful relational database• Logs alarms and events• Old data can be automatically archived and retrieved• Periodical backups ensure data is never lost
Displays data and reports in real time
• Uses a powerful charting package to produce high quality graphical reports
• Provides clear tabular reports where access to detail is required
• Presents reports as HTML or PDF documents• Charts & reports are user configurable
Welcome to the era of real-time energy usage
reporting. The first step to optimising your
building or facility’s energy usage is to have
access to real-time reporting. We all know
you can’t manage what you can’t measure.
Optergy is a system that connects to all your
building’s meters (water, electricity, gas) and
other building systems such as lighting to
collect raw data on consumption, temperatures
and flow rates. This data is presented in a series
of reports via an intuitive, user-friendly web
interface that provides real-time measurements,
tailored to a client’s needs. These reports can
be accessed anywhere, anytime – wherever
you have internet connectivity.
Alerts can be set up to advise of anomalies
in usage behaviour, or any other activity you
need to monitor. Optergy provides the full
suite of tools to measure, manage, report
and ultimately reduce energy usage.
