Performance Database: The Performance Database is a new and powerful tool that automatically collects and stores requested performance characteristics in one place, completely characterizing the design space. Vary as many or as few parameters as you like. Once constructed, the database can be used to instantly compare various design changes or examine the operating conditions of a design under various operating regimes.

DOE Studies: Design of Experiment comes to STAR-CCM+, replacing forever the old one-factor-at-a-time method of optimization. This drastically reduces the time needed to run simulations, allowing computerized creation of a matrix of changing variables to find an optimum design from given parameters. This feature intelligently uses and builds upon the Parameter Scan feature to minimize time and effort required from the user.

Optimization: In Optimization mode the user specifies goals (minimize pressure, maximize mixing) and the search algorithm will find inputs (design parameters, boundary conditions) that achieve the desired results. Multiple goals can be sought as well, such as optimizing hydrodynamic drag, engine power, and fuel consumption for a ship in a virtual tow-tank, or minimizing the volume of a heat-sink while maximizing its heat dissipation capacity.
