Deaf Voyage with the Apostle Paul

June 19-27, 2015

Rhoades became one of the most powerful islands throughout the centuries of the ancient world.

Day 7, June 25, Thursday–Arrive at the island of Crete, the fifth largest island of the Mediterranean. It was at Crete that the Apostle Paul made an unexpected stop as he was traveling as a prisoner by ship to Rome. Both Paul and Titus ministered in Crete on one of their missionary journeys. Crete is also known as an important island inhabited by the Minoan civilizations. The cruise line offers a shore excursion in Crete to Knossos to see the ancient remains of this unusual civilization. Return to the ship to sail to Santorini. Santorini is known for the most beautiful sunsets in the world. A cable car fare is included and your tour host will take you on a walking tour of this quaint, whitewashed village with blue domed roofs at the top of the volcanic cliffs.

Day 8, June 26, Friday–The ship will arrive in Piraeus port of Athens in the early morning. Following disembarkation formalities, you leave the ship where you will be met by your tour guide and travel to the ancient city of Corinth. It was in Corinth that Paul met Aquila and Priscilla and spent a year and a half preaching the Word of God. You will visit the Archaeological Museum, the Forum, the Temples and the famous Bema where Paul stood before Gallio, accused by the Jews of Corinth. On your return to Athens you will drive to Cenchreae, the little harbor from where Paul sailed back to Asia, ending his secondary missionary journey. Return to Athens for free time in the afternoon, dinner and overnight.

Day 9, June 27, Saturday–Depart Athens at 10:05am and arrive in Istanbul to change planes for your non-stop flight to Los Angeles on Turkish Air #9, arriving at 4:30pm.

Flight schedules can be changed by the airline.

Itinerary can be changed at the discretion of your leaders,

guide and tour operator.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1, June 19, Friday–Depart Los Angeles on Turkish Airline #10 at 6:20pm.

Day 2, June 20, Saturday–Arrive in Athens via Istanbul in the evening. Transfer to hotel in Athens for overnight.

Day 3, June 21, Sunday–Full day tour of Athens. Visit the areas of Ancient Athens beginning at the world renowned Acropolis to see the Propylea, the Erechteum and the Parthenon. Visit Mars Hill, where Paul delivered his ingenious speech on the “Unknown God”. View the Agora, the ancient center of the economic and public life of the city, where Paul preached to the skeptical Athenians. During the bus tour, see Constitution Square with the House of Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Temple of Zeus, the Old Olympic Stadium and the Neoclassical Buildings of Athens. Dinner and overnight in Athens.

Day 4, June 22, Monday–This morning you will board the ship for the 4-day Greek Isle cruise. Depart Piraeus, the port of Athens. First stop is Mykonos, Greece. Shuttle services are included from the ship to town where your tour host will take you on a walking tour of this picturesque town with its gleaming whitewashed buildings and windmills.

Day 5, June 23, Tuesday–Arrive in Kusadasi, the port near the ancient city of Ephesus. Your Turkey guide will meet you, direct you to the bus, then begin your journey to Ephesus where Paul spent three years during his ministry. Ephesus is an ancient and impressive city that includes the Agora, the Theatre where the angry mob almost killed Paul, the Stadium, the famous Library of Celsius, and the ruins of the Temple of Diana (one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World”). Return to your ship for departure. Next, sail to the island of Patmos. On the included shore excursion to Patmos, you will visit the Monastery of St. John, one of the island’s highest points. From there you will walk down to the Grotto of the Apocalypse, the site where John wrote the book of Revelation.

Day 6, June 24, Wednesday–Overnight sail to Rhoades. It was from Rhodes that the Apostle Paul set sail for Jerusalem. You can walk to the medieval town and see a well-preserved fortress, palace and moat. This historical island’s first known civilization was the Minoans.
