A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
The City of Vaughan has been built by people whose desire to create, excel and succeed has contributed to our economic growth and continued prosperity. We recognize the hard work and dedication it takes to nurture and grow a new venture. Innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit are at the core of what makes our city a centre of business excellence.
The Vaughan Business Enterprise Centre (VBEC) Summer Company program gives students, many of them still in high school, an opportunity to be their own boss and explore entrepreneurship as a career. They are taking advantage of their interests in everything from social media and photography to sports and jewelry to create successful enterprises. With hands-on coaching and mentoring from local business leaders, these young people are forging their own path to success.
Our community is filled with valuable opportunities and outstanding business people who are committed to making a positive contribution here in Vaughan, and beyond. It is through their efforts that our city will continue to reach new heights and achieve new goals.

The Vaughan Business Enterprise Centre (VBEC) is your first business advisor! We help make your idea happen.
VBEC and Summer Company aim to support youth as they explore entrepreneurship as a career option. The VBEC team equips them with the tools necessary to succeed in business.
Summer Company entrepreneurs are Ontario students between the ages of 15 and 29 who start a full-time business and operate it over the summer. Program participants receive one-on-one training from a VBEC Small Business Consultant, mentorship from community businesspeople, and a provincial grant of up to $3,000 to help with start-up costs.
Summer Company is run by VBEC in partnership with Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development and Growth (MEDG), and the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Science (MRIS).
Volunteers from Vaughan’s business community mentor our Summer Company participants. They give their time for group and individual support, providing advice on everything from sales and marketing to building a network. If you are interested in joining our mentor team, please contact VBEC.

Jesse Abramowitz holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and is currently in school to become a respiratory therapist. He has always wanted to start his own business, and when inspiration struck over reading week he decided to make this dream a reality and launch Werkperks.
Werkperks is an online marketplace for office perks. The current course of action for a company to book activities like office yoga, self defence, massages, etc. is to come up with an idea and spend time calling individual suppliers. Suppliers in turn need to cold call businesses to find corporate clients. Werkperks offers a simple solution by providing a place where a business can get an idea and book a perk with minimal effort.

BREIT is a unique clothing brand that consists of a line of t-shirts that focus on inspiring the wearer by having positive reinforcing life goals. By combining the use of fabric markers with t-shirts, individuals of all ages are given an opportunity to unleash their creativity and follow their dreams. Art-toons is a t-shirt design company with one-of-a-kind designs created by founder Natasha Evangelista’s brother, who has autism. Art-toons aims to promote the ability of children with autism. Art-toons also looks to give back, with $1 from each t-shirt sold donated to Autism Speaks Canada.
