Practice 2-1: Configuring User Types
Scenario
In preparation of full adoption of the Native Reporting solution, your supervisor has asked that
you duplicate an existing user type and change the Access Reports setting before activating
the user type.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. The first step is to log in to the solution.
a. Log in to Oracle Talent Acquisition using the URL and credentials provided by the
instructor.
Note: If you are taking the course as training on demand (TOD), use the URL and
credentials provided for your labs.
b. Click the Sign In link.
Result: The Welcome page appears.
c. Click the Configuration option.
Result: The Configuration module opens.
2. The next task is to locate the correct user type.
a. Locate the SmartOrg heading in the right-hand column.
b. Click the Administration link.
Result: The SmartOrg Administration page displays.
c. In the left-hand column under the Users heading, locate the User Types link.
d. Click the User Types link.
Result: The User Types page opens.
e. Click the Refine by drop-down menu.
f. Click the Keyword list item.
Result: The Contains field displays.
g. Enter the following information into the Contains field:

h. Click the Refresh button.
i. Locate the PM.Manager.All user type.
j. Click the Duplicate link for the PM.Manager.All user type on the right-hand side of the

Result: The User Type Editor - Manager - Global page appears.
k. Click in the Code field.
l. Change the existing code to:
performance_manager_only_[Your Initials]
m. Click in the Description field.
n. Change the description to:
Reporting Access
o. Click in the Name field to change the name to:
Global Manager [Your Initials]
p. Click the Save button.
Result: The User Type – [Your Initials]_Global Manager page opens.
3. In this next series of tasks, you need to activate the Access Reporting option.
a. Locate and expand the Performance section.
b. Locate the Team Management section.
c. Click the Edit link.
Result: The Permissions Editor - Performance - Team Management displays.
d. Select the Access Reporting checkbox.
e. Click the Save button.
Result: The User Type – [Your Initials]_Global Manager page reappears.
4. For the final task in this practice, activate the option.
a. Click the Activate button.
Result: The Deactivate button displays to show that the duplicated and newly configured user type is now active.
b. Click the User Types link.

Practice 3-1: Running and Saving Standard Reports
Scenario
A manager requests that you run the Talent Profile report, a standard Native Report, using the
R&D Talent Pool. The output should be RTF, and saved as a Word document to your desktop
for later distribution.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. First access the Performance tool from the Welcome page.
a. Locate the Performance link.
b. Click the Performance link.
Result: The Performance solution displays.
2. Although you can use the Reports option listed in the menu, this practice uses a different
method to queue the report.
a. Click the More menu.
b. Click the Talent Pools list item.
Result: The Talent Pools page opens.
c. Under the Name column, locate the Recruiting option.
d. Place the cursor in the Recruiting row to activate the View Available Actions drop-
down button.
Result: The View Available Actions drop-down button displays.
e. Click the Go to drop-down button.
Result: A drop-down menu with several choices appears.
3. Now use the Talent Profile to generate a standard report.
a. Click the Run Report option.
Result: The Run a report dialogue box opens. In the left-hand Employee column, the Talent Pool radio button is already selected.
b. Locate the Select a report column.

c. If necessary, expand the Talent Profile section by clicking the Talent Profile tree item.
d. Select the Talent Profile option.
Result: The Customize the report column activates. It is now possible to specify a name and the report output format.
e. Locate the Name field.
f. Add your initials to the end of the name. Enter the following information into the Name
field:
Talent Profile – [Your Initials]
g. Click the RTF option.
h. Click the Run Report button.
Result: A dialogue box appears, explaining that report processing is under way.
4. After running the report, it is then possible to access its contents.
a. On the dialogue box, click the Go to "My Reports" link.
Result: The My Reports dialogue box opens.
b. If the Status column does not display a value of Ready then click the Refresh button.
Note: It may be necessary to click the Refresh button several times before the status
changes from Running to Ready.
c. Click the Report Title link.
d. Result: The Opening Reporting.RTF dialogue box most likely appears. Depending on
your browser and preferences that you have configured for it, the system may send the
report straight to MS Word. Depending on your browser, it might also be necessary to
click OK. Depending on the browser, the Opening Reporting.RTF dialogue box may
show up at the bottom of the screen as a download.
e. On the Opening Reporting.RTF dialogue box, click the OK button.
Result: The report opens in MS Word.
5. With the document opened in MS Word, it is possible to take actions on it.
a. Examine the report. Observe that the end result is modifiable, if required.
b. Use the Save As option.

c. Select Word Document (*.docx) option.
d. Provide the document with the following name:
Talent Pool_(your initials)
Note: This guarantees that the resulting file is truly an MS Word document, and not just
Rich Text File (RTF).
e. Save the document in a location that you can remember.
6. The last task is to exit MS Word and then return to Performance.
a. Return to Oracle Talent Acquisition Performance.
b. On the My Reports dialogue box, click the Close button.
c. Click the Performance menu.
Result: The landing page for Performance reappears.

Practice 5-1: Creating Data Models
Scenario
This lesson covers creating the data samples you will use in building your report template. If
you are confident in your skills, create a data model from the Succession Data model that
attaches the position data model to the succession plan and the employee data model to the
successor. Use the Get Sample tools to download a set of sample data and save it.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. The first step involves accessing the portion of the software where data models can be
defined.
a. On the Oracle Talent Acquisition Welcome page, click the Configuration link.
Result: The Configuration module appears.
b. In the right-hand column, locate the Performance Administration link.
c. Click the Performance Administration link.
Result: The Performance Administration page opens.
d. In the lower part of the left-hand column, locate the Native Reporting Administration
link.
e. Click the Native Reporting Administration link.
Result: The Native Reporting Administration page displays.
f. Click the Data Model Definitions link.
Result: The Data Model Definitions for Deployment page appears.
2. Next create the new data model.
a. Click the Create link.
The Data Model Definition Editor page opens.
b. Enter the following information into the Code field:
[Your Initials]_succession_plan_data
c. Enter the following information into the Description field:

Note: Once you have clicked the Save button, you are no longer able to edit the Base Data
Model field. If you have chosen incorrectly, then you must delete the data model and begin
again.
h. Click the Save button.
Result: The Data Model Definition – [Your Initials]_Succession Plan Data page opens.
3. Now it is possible to edit the newly defined data model.
a. Next to the Data Model Content heading, locate the Edit link.
b. Click the Edit link.
Result: The Data Model Editor displays.
c. If necessary, click the Expand Tree link.
d. Click the Succession Plan Green Plus Sign object.
Result: The Data Model Selector page appears.
e. Details regarding position are required in the resulting report. Click the Position Data
Model option.
f. Click the Select button.
Result: The Position Data Model now appears under Succession Plan in the tree.
g. Within the Position Data Model, click the Position, the Position Location and the
Position Organization options.
h. Click the Successor Green Plus Sign object.
Result: The Data Model Selector page appears.
i. Click the Employee Data Model option.

Result: The Employee Data Model now appears under Successor in the tree.

Result: A dialogue box appears and asks if you are certain that you want to save the data model content.
4. Finally, it is necessary to return to the selections and activate the data model.
a. Click the Activate button.

Practice 5-2: Sampling Data
Scenario
With a data model now in place, it is time to obtain some sample data to bring to life the
template that you are to create.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 5 minutes
Tasks
1. First, access the portion of the solution where data can be sampled.
a. In the breadcrumb trail, click the Data Model Definitions link.
Result: The Data Model Definitions for Deployment page appears.
b. Click the Data Model Definition Sampling link.
c. In the Data Model Definition Sampling table, locate the row containing your newly
created data model.
d. On the right-hand side of the row containing your data sample, click the Get Sample
button.
Result: The Get Sample button vanishes and in its place appear a Refresh button and a message stating that sampling is in progress.
Note: The samples contain no more than 200 records, but if it seems to take too long, use
the Refresh button to refresh the build.
e. Click the Refresh button, if need be.
f. Click the Ready link.
Result: The Opening Sample_[Your Initials]_Succession_Plan_Data_[today’s date] dialogue box opens.
Note: Depending on your browser, its configurations and those of your computer, you may
or may not have to take several more steps to get to a location where it is possible save the
file on your computer. Ensure that the location is one that is easy to remember and access
as you need the data sample in the next lesson.
g. Click the Save File radio button.
h. Click the OK button.
i. Enter the desired information into the File Name field:
[Your Initials]_Succession Data Sample.xml

Scenario
Before you can create and alter a Native Reporting template, you first need to upload the XML
file retrieved in the practice from last lesson. Insert this file to provide data for the template.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 5 minutes
Tasks
1. First, it is necessary to access MS Word and the BI Publisher tab.
Note: The BI Publisher tab must be installed by the time you are ready to start this lesson’s
practices.
a. Click the BI Publisher tab.
b. Click the Sample XML button.
c. Navigate to the location of the XML file from the previous exercise.
d. Click the Filename object.
e. [Your Initials]_Succession Data Sample.xml
f. Click the Open button.
g. Click the OK button.
Result: With the XML file and the data set that it contains now uploaded, it is possible to modify the template. The Insert, Preview, Tools, and Options sections are now active and ready for use.

Practice 7-1: Inserting Pie Charts into Native Reporting Templates
Scenario
For your new template, you and your manager have discussed the fact that a visual aide would
best present the data in a visually compelling manner. To this end, add a pie chart to the
template.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. The first step is to activate the Chart Wizard.
a. If you have closed it, open your Succession Plan report template again in MS Word.
Note: You may have to upload the XML file again. If the toolbar is grayed out, reload the
XML file.
b. Click under the table that you created in the last lesson in order to insert your cursor.
c. On the BI Publisher tab, click the Chart button.
Result: The Chart Wizard displays.
2. The next task requires the configuration of the details for the pie chart.

Practice 7-2: Inserting Bar Charts into Native Reporting Templates
Scenario
Your manager has seen the pie chart and believes it is a good addition to the template.
However, another type of visual aide seems fitting to accompany it. Next, add a bar chart to the
template.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. The first step is to activate the Chart Wizard.
a. Click under the table that you created in the last lesson in order to insert your cursor.
b. Click the Chart button.
Result: The Chart Wizard displays.
2. The next task requires the configuration of the details for the bar chart.
a. Scroll down to the POSITION section.
b. Drag the CRITICALITY object and drop it into the Labels area.
c. Drag the POSITIONNUMBER object and drop it into the Values area.
d. Click the Aggregation list.
e. Select the Count option.
f. Click the Type list and select the Bar Chart - Vertical option, if need be.
g. Review the various properties available by scrolling up and down the list.

Practice 8-1: Concatenating the Risk of Loss and Potential
Scenario
Your manager has decided that having some indication of both risk of loss and potential in the
report would be valuable information. Create the concatenated field, change the field label and
remove the Employee Potential field that is no longer required.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. The first step is to edit the current EMPLOYEERISKOFLOSS field.
a. To get started, return to the table portion of the report template, if need be.
b. Double-click the EMPLOYEERISKOFLOSS line item.
c. Click in the Text to display field and remove the text currently in it.
d. Enter the following information into the field:
RISKANDPOTENTIAL
2. Next, move on to the Advanced tab to make more modifications.
a. Click the Advanced tab.
Note: Formulas and calculations are built here.
b. Click to place the cursor between the ? and the first E.
c. Begin building the formula by identifying a new calculation. Type xdofx: to identify this
as a calculation.
d. Click again to move the cursor to the end of the statement, in front of the final ?.
Note: The double pipe is the symbol used for indicating concatenation. The key is usually
produced with the Shift+Backslash combination on your keyboard.
e. Enter the following information into the After the 'S' and before the ? field:
|| ' / ' ||
f. Press [Caps Lock].
g. Enter the desired information into the Code field:
EMPLOYEEPOTENTIAL
h. Click the OK button.

c. Activate the shortcut menu. Right-click the desired object.
d. Click the Delete Columns menu.
e. Click the Save button.

Practice 8-2: Working with If-Statements
Scenario
After reviewing the report design, the decision is made to include a column to identify whether
the direct report is ready or not ready to be promoted. To this end, you can use the decode
function for this analysis so that if the employee is 'Ready Now', it substitutes the word "Ready"
and all other options change to "Not Ready".
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. It is first necessary to remove the word “readiness” to prepare the template for more end-
user definition.
a. Start by selecting only the PROMOTABILITYREADINESS field code.
Note: The final E is a separate code ending the repeats.
b. Double-click the PROMOTABILITYREADINESS object.
c. Click in the Text to display field.
d. Remove the word READINESS.
2. Next, move on to the Advanced tab to make more modifications.
a. Click the Advanced tab.
b. Using any combination of typing and /or text deletion, make your screen look the same
as the statement below:

Practice 9-1: Uploading User-Defined Templates into Oracle Talent
Acquisition
Scenario
Having completed all of the alteration activities, it is now time to upload your template into
Oracle Talent Acquisition, configure it and then activate it for use.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 15 minutes
Tasks
Note: To complete this practice, you need to log back in to Oracle Talent Acquisition and
navigate to Configuration > Performance [Administration]. If necessary, refer to the
URL, login and password provided by the instructor.
1. The first set of tasks involves accessing Native Reporting Administration.
a. In the left-hand column, scroll down to locate the Native Reporting Administration
link.
b. Click the Native Reporting Administration link.
Result: The Native Reporting Administration page opens.
c. Click the Report Definitions link.
Note: This link contains all of the standard and user-defined report definitions.
Result: The Report Definitions page appears.
2. Next, it is necessary to specify some details for the user-defined template to be used to
generate Native Reports for Performance data.
a. Click the Create link.
b. Enter the following information into Name the field:
[Your Initials] - Succession Plan Updates
c. Enter the following information into the Category Field field:
Employee Details
d. Enter the following information into the Description field:
This report displays detailed and summary succession plan
information by position.
3. The next set of tasks now focuses on selecting and uploading items to bring the template to
life.
a. Click the Data Model Definition list.

b. Click the [your initials] - Succession Plan Data list item.
c. Select the data model that you created earlier in the course. In the Template File
section, click the Browse button.
d. Navigate to the RTF file you have worked with throughout the course.
e. Click the filename object.
f. Click the Open button.
Result: In the Template File section, the name of the template now appears.
g. Select all of the File Format options.
h. Click the Save button.
- Result: The Report Definition – [Your Initials] - Success Plan Updates page displays. Now that you have created the base properties, you see the options for User Groups and User Roles.
4. The following group of tasks links specific individuals to the template.
a. Scroll down to the User Roles heading and the click the Add link next to it.
Result: The User Role Selector page opens.
b. Select the High Level Manager, HR Administrator, Manager, and Matrix Manager
options.
c. Click the Select button.
Result: The Report Definition – [Your Initials] - Success Plan Updates page displays again.
5. Finally, it is now possible to complete the upload process and activate the template within
Oracle Talent Acquisition.
a. Click the Activate button.
b. Click the Go to the homepage link.

Practice 9-2: Testing User-Defined Templates
Scenario
As a best practice, conduct a trial run of the template to examine it and ensure that it works as
expected.
Assumptions
Time: Approximately 10 minutes
Tasks
1. Testing a template to ensure that it behaves properly when it generates a report follows the
identical process for generating standard Native Reports for Oracle Talent Acquisition
Performance data.
a. Click the Performance menu.
b. Click the Reports menu.
Result: The My Reports dialogue box opens.
c. Click the Run Report link.
Note: As this report is a Succession Report, which is based on positions, it is necessary to
work from that tab.
d. Click the Positions tab.
e. Click the Positions in my coverage area option.
Result: The Select a report column activates.
f. Click the Succession Plan Updates list item.
Note: Do not click the test list item.
g. Hover over the balloon to review the description.
h. Add your initials to the end of the report name. Enter the following information into the
Name field:
[your initials]
2. Next, it is necessary to generate the report from the user-defined template.
a. Review the output options.
b. Click the Run Report button.

Result: A dialogue box appears, stating that the report is being run.
c. Click the Go to "My Reports" link.

detrimental?
g. Close the browser window that the report appears on.
h. On the My Reports dialogue box, click the Close button.
