1 Product description
Orbit is a substation between the access and security network of iProtect™ Aurora. Orbit is
controlled by a network device (Stellar/iPU-8/Polyx ND+).
Orbit 1 and Orbit 2 communicate with 1 respectively 2 card readers and control the locking and unlocking of the door, which the readers have been assigned to.
Orbit has an aluminium extrusion profile. The electronics is cast into PUR synthetic resin. You can fix cables with pull support and shield to the Orbit.
Orbit can be used from -20°C to +60°C.
1.1 Certification
The Orbits are entirely tested by an external institute and comply to the CE demands.
The Orbits also comply to the ‘Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment 2002/95/EC’ (RoHS).
1.2 Reader Orbits
1.2.1 Orbit-1
Orbit-1 is the substation between a digital card reader and the network device.
Orbit-1 has two outputs and four digital inputs.

1.2.2 Orbit-2
Orbit-1 is the substation between the digital card readers and the network device.
Orbit-1 has four outputs and 8 digital inputs.
1.3 Orbit I/O
Orbit I/O is the substation between network device and 12 digital inputs and outputs.

3 Installation
3.1 Mounting on rail (NEN-EN 50022)
The Orbits are mounted in an aluminium profile which can be clicked on a default 35 mm
installation rail.

3.2 Connection with reader
You can connect Clock/Data- and Wiegand card readers on Orbits. On a Orbit-2 you can even
connect a combination (a Clock/Data- AND a Wiegand card reader).
You can only can connect card readers to an Orbit which transmit maximally 18 characters.

3.3 Connection with network device
Orbit communicates with the network device via a 4 wire RS422 connection (Profibus). The
pins are:
Pin 1 = RXB Pin 5 = do not connect
Pin 2 = RXA Pin 6 = TXA
Pin 3 = TXB Pin 7,8 = GND (common)
Pin 4 = do not connect
The maximal distance between Orbit and network device (Stellar, iPU-8 or Polyx ND+) is 1.200
meter.

3.4 Connection with inputs and outputs
The inputs and outputs of the Orbit can be configured by software.
3.4.1 Inputs
Orbit has inputs for loops, for a push button at a reception or security centre and magnetic
contacts for door opening status and lock status.
3.4.2 Outputs
Orbit has outputs for switching direct current (DC). One output is used to control the door lock,
while the other can be used for controlling a light or siren.
The outputs are solid state relais (FET), which are in idle state “Normally Open” (max. 1A DC /
28V).
Recommendation: Apply a mechanical relay for controlling the door locks when using idle
current in High Security applications. If the reader-Orbit is being sabotaged, the doors will not
open automatically in this case.

3.5 Connecting the power
You can connect 8 to 24VDC to the power connection of the Orbit.
You can use the power supply of the door lock for feeding the Orbit.
Note! Connections of the Orbit are not short cut proof. Make sure all connections are
connected correctly.
4 LED’s
The LED (LD1) above the network connection indicates the current communication with the
network device (right). The LED (LD9) above the power supply indicates the connected voltage
(left).
5 Installation diagnosis
An installation diagnosis is possible via a pc/laptop or an 'Orbit checker'.
