The Orca Doors Lignum range is a doorset with a finish achieved using a high quality veneer, which is UV coated to show the natural beauty of the timber, giving a

warm tactile feel whilst having long lasting protection from the UV cured lacquer.

The standard Orca timber range covers the most frequently used timbers, but many other veneers are available and can be supplied upon request.

All of the Lignum range for healthcare is coated with a UV cured lacquer that contains an antibacterial agent. This same ingredient is used for the coating on any glazing beads, lippings and frames that have exposed timber. To further fulfil the re-quirements of infection control, the Orca standard glazing bead has a tight synthetic

seal between the glass and the bead.

Manufactured from a high quality core, Orca can manufacture the Lignum doorset to suit your requirements, be that a non fire rated door, a FD30 or FD60, and with

matching or contrasting frame finishes, edging finish, vision panels and beading finish.

Orca can also pre-install door edge guards, door protection plates, ironmongery and signage.

Detail is the key to the high quality finish of Orca doorsets, from originalspecification to final production. At Orca the emphasis is on the right productfor the job, so we can accommodate a wide range of styles and finishes.

Door FramesOrca can offer a variation of frames, from linings with planted stops to solidcasings with stops machined in. These can be supplied ready to paint, prefinished with antibacterial lacquer, or full encapsulated in 2mm PVC, makingthem extremely durable.

GlazingWhen installing vision panels, Orca ensure that all standards are met, whether itbe for fire or acoustic rating. Glass can be fitted in a huge range of sizes andconfigurations, and guidance can be giving to achieve best results. Wheretimber glazing beads are installed, these are coated with an antibacteriallacquer, and where possible, a synthetic seal keeps the bead tight to the glass, assisted infection control.

LippingsLippings are installed on all four edges, and can be manufactured so as to beconcealed or exposed. Standard sizing for Orca is a 10mm lipping, in which theintumescent can be installed if required.

Edge ProtectionPVC edge protection is manufactured by Orca, and can be pre-installed ondoors, not only giving a high quality factory finish, but also ensuring that the firerating of the door is uncompromised.

Face ProtectionOrca can supply and install PVC face protection to your doors, ready fordelivery to site. From simple kick plates to half heigh multi coloured curveddecorative panels, Orca can accommodate. Our state of the art CNC technologymeans consist quality, and our experience using these materials also means ahigh standard of finish.

IronmongeryIronmongery can be installed in the factory, where you can be assured that notonly will the quality of the install be to your requirement, but that any firecertification has been retained. Orca can advise on suitable items and methodsof installation to achieve fire standards.

Fire RatingQ Mark CertificationIndependent third party certification is the highest form of endorsement a product can achieve and is increasingly specified by architects, contractors, local authorities, facilities managers and procurement bodies.BM Trada Q-Mark is the brand name applied to the scheme operated by BM Trada Certification, one of the UK’s foremost certification bodies with many years experience and accredited by UKAS since 1991.BM Trada Q-Mark is a quality mark for a product, identifying it as having been assessed against specified performance levels through independent accredited tests. It also shows that every product manufactured will offer the same level of performance through integration with an approved Quality Management Scheme.Third party certification of Doors & Windows is a mandatory requirement for Secured by Design (SBD), whilst Approved Document B makes it clear that this is the preferred route for demonstrating performance of Fire Doors. To attain third party certification, a manufacturer and their product will have to undergo a rigorous audit and testing process, ensuring they have in place correct documented product specifications, installation instructions, and a factory productioncontrol system, all of which integrate with an approved Quality Management Scheme such as ISO:9001.To identify the Fire Door Certification, BM Trada use a plugging system. These coloured plugs can be found in the top edge or the top of the verticaledging of the door, and can be identified using the chart below.

Vision Panels:Glazing SealsGlazing beads can be produced and supplied using the standard profiles and systems shown below.Beads are fixed using steel pins, with the holes the filled with matching wax.Beads can be factory polished, painted or primed as necessary. Orca uses a polish that incorporates an antibacterial agent, making them ideal for healthcare environments.

Vision Panels:GlazingOrca can provide factory glazed vision panels to achieve up to and including 60 minutes and 60 minute integrity and insulation performance using a range of high performance glass.Glass types and maximum glazed areas will depend on the door cores and required fire ratings. We would normally recommend a minimum of 110mm distance from the edge of the door to the edge of the aperture, and at least 210mm from the bottom of the door.

Vision Panels:BS8300 (2009)This covers a number of areas connected with doors including clear opening widths, vision panels and light reflective values (LRV).reference should also be made to the requirements laid out in Approved Document M.

ConfigurationsAll typical door configurations can be produced to meeting a building’s operational requirements.Standard options are single acting doorset, double acting single door set, single acting double doorset, double acting double doorset, and single acting unequal leaf pair doorset.

OverpanelsOverpanels can also be manufactured as part of the doorset, typically of the same construction as the door leaf, and separated by a transom of the same specification as the timber door frame.

PerformanceMechanical strength of doors is assessed according to BS EN 1192:2000 ‘Doors - Classification of strength requirements’.Orca use various cores which can be supplied as doorsets up to the classification of Severe Duty (Class 4), which makes them suitable for allapplications, including those where they may be subjected to frequent violent usage.

ManufacturingMoisture contentTimber doors are manufactured with a moisture content of 10-12% for internal use. The applicable standard on this subject is BS EB 942: 1996 Timber in joinery., the general classification of timber quality.

Doors should note be brought to site until moisture readings are between 40 and 60% RH and until after any forced drying procedure has been completed.

CoresSolid core doors are produced from a solid particle board, manufactured specifically for use as a fire door core material. Offering excellent stability and strength, these achieve “Severe Duty” rating.Lamincore cores are made from narrow laminations of timber, with MDF or Plywood sub-faces, ready to accept decorative facings

LippingsThe standard Orca specification is to use 10mm or 16mm hardwood lippings dependant on specification. All four edges will always be lipped using the correct adhesive for the application. The hardwood used can be matched as best possible to the facing timber, or as a contrast is required.

FacingsFacings applied can be 0.5-0.7mm crown, quartered or specially cut veneers, that are finished with a factory polish which is UV cured for durability, and contains an antibacterial agent.

0.6-0.7mm decorative laminates can also be applied,as well as 2mm PVC. PVC faced doors can also have the

option of the facing wrapping aroundthe vertical edges with a 8mm radius for an extremely durable finish.

StorageThe storage area must be clean, level, suitable for stacking doors, and provide sufficient space for doors to be moved around, sorted, and re-stacked asinstallation proceeds. The floor should be suitable to allow for the use of pallet moving equipment if necessary.

Do not store leaves standing upright or leaning as this can cause bowing.Stack horizontally on level supports that extend across the full width of the bottom door leaf. Provide support at the centre and at approximately 300mmfrom each end. Cover the supports in cardboard to prevent marking of the surface.

Cover stacks with opaque sheeting to prevent fading with expose to light, and keep the doors clean at all times. This is extremely important for veneereddoors.

HandlingAvoid bruising and damage caused by heavy contact with the ground. Wear clean gloves when handling to avoid leaving finger marks, and the reduce the risk of injury or slippage during handling.

MaintenanceAll of Orca door’s finishes can be maintained in a good clean condition simply by wiping at regular intervals with a soft cloth moistened with water. If the surface becomes fairly grubby, a small amount of mild detergent added to the water will ease this cleaning operation. After cleaning, any excess water should be wiped off with a soft dry cloth to leave the surface completely dry. It is important that any detergent used should be nonabrasive and not a cream based cleaner.

It is inadvisable to use wax polishes as these can very quickly cause a build up of wax on the surface. This will become embedded with dust or dirt andresult in a grubby appearance to the surface. These waxes can also alter the degree of sheen and texture of the surface, and may with time, destroy theintegrity of any surface coating.

FSCForestry StewardshipCouncilThe Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international network designed to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. It was established in the mid 1990s. Worldwide, more than 180 million hectares of forest in 80countries are certified according to FSC® standards and over 26,000 companies have FSC® Chain of Custody certification. Chain of Custody (COC) certification provides independent evidence that forest products like timber, joinery products and sheet materials originate from responsibly managed forests. When a product has COC certification it means that there is an unbroken and documented chain of ownership (custody) all the way from theforest, via the mill, the importer, the manufacturer and supplier(s) to the end user. FSC is a certification system that provides internationally recognised standard setting, trademark assurance and accreditation. The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit the environment. Orca achieved FSC Chain of Custody certification in 2013 and has maintained this accreditation through all independent audits to date, and plan to continue this as part of our ongoing environmental policy.
