AHEPA Chapter #64 wishes KALO MHNA of JUNE ‘2020

Warm Wishes for a most Wonderful Month during this Bright Season of Pentecost. These wishes go out to the entire community as well, and especially all the fraternal brothers of our beloved AHEPA Chapter #64. We thank our officers for their astute leadership and commitment throughout this very difficult time over this this pandemic the COVID-19. PATIENCE WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS..!!! REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES AND KEEP US ALL SAFE AND HEALTHY….GOD BLESS!!!

AHEPA Chapter #64 wishes to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to both Supreme Presidents George Loucas and George Horiates, along with the Supreme Lodge Officers who honored us with their presence on these two truly historical occasions for our esteemed AHEPA Chapter #64 when we hosted them for not only one but two (2) MASS INTITATIONS CEREMONY-BANQUETS.

AHEPA Chapter #64 also extends appreciation and gratitude to our Power District #4 Lodge brothers who traveled long distances to honor us with their presence on these highly auspicious affairs. We are deeply indebted to both the National and District Officers for their attendance at these solemn and exquisite ceremony-banquets. These were our most prolific occasions to be remembered forever for our prestigious AHEPA Chapter #64. We are extremely proud of our growth, development, and service to our community.

CHAPTER #64 OPA CARD FUNDRAISER

AHEPA CHAPTER #64 THANKS: To ALL the merchants for this year who are so patiently waiting for this pandemic to pass and/or for the government to ‘open up’ for merchants to frequent their restaurants at full capacity. God knows this pandemic has wreaked havoc on our society and our economy, even influencing our ‘2020 OPA CARD program so as it is! Nevertheless, we compassionately support the many philanthropic and educational causes our fraternal organization stands for without any disruption whatsoever. Thanks for your patience as we most definitely will accommodate all consumers and merchants taking part in this program. ATTENTION PARISHIONERS: Soon most of our restaurants will be open for %50 sit-down dining and the OPA CARD will be able to be utilized. This will benefit you, the restaurant, also for AHEPA Chapter #64 benefit. This fundraising project has been adopted by our

Chapter#64 for the benefit of our many civic responsibilities and philanthropic donations. We

thank all who purchase these OPA cards and also the merchants who are honoring them. Since this pandemic interrupted our ‘yearly’ contract, Ahepa Chapter #64 is instituting an extension until July 1st, 2021 to accommodate the loss of 3 months on the card. It is good for $15 off any purchase of $30 or more from any of these participating restaurants. Your card can be used only once for each restaurant participating.

ANNUAL GREEK FESTIVAL

AHEPA Chapter #64 usually participates with much of the physical undertakings of the preparation, set-up, daily functions, and tear down during the ‘Greek Festival’ which was scheduled to run from May 15th to the 17th this year of ‘2020.

AHEPA Chapter #64 normally assists in various areas including Organizers, Parking, EMS/Safety, Dinner Tickets, Beverages, Welcome/Greeters, Souvlaki & Gyro, Saganaki & Tiropites, Kitchen, and Salads Preparation. Many AHEPA Chapter #64 brothers worked tirelessly & sacrificially while exhibiting true dedication and stewardship for our community. We were saddled with the pandemic spreading throughout the whole world this year, and unfortunately had to cancel. Presently, a decision has not yet been determined when to reschedule this event. When it does, we will soon be under the bright and sunny skies when the huge banner hanging from our bell tower showing the American & Greek flags while Greek music permeating the atmosphere and the Olympic Flames will perform our virtuous dances.

Memorial Day is a special time to honor America’s history and commemorate the bravery, courage, and honor of our troops. To honor our nation’s veterans who

sacrificed everything to fight for our freedom as Americans. We are especially proud and honor our veterans from our Community who gave their lives for the ultimate

sacrifice to protect our nation and to our veterans who are with us today; we thank you for your sacrifice to defend our homeland and protect us all.

“Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay.”

“To those in uniform serving today and to those who have served in the past, we honor you today

and every day.”

Veterans are a symbol of what makes our nation great, and we must never forget all they have

done to ensure our freedom.”

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We did not pass it to our

children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children

what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

AHEPA DAY – MEMORIAL DAY

AHEPA Chapter #64 chooses to combine this event in conjunction with the Archdiocese commemoration of AHEPA DAY To Honor and Remember our Deceased Brothers and Military Veterans on this Day of Memorial is our continuing duty and obligation. Soon over 116 AHEPA Chapter #64 brothers will have the opportunity to attend the Divine Liturgy and the subsequent ceremony outside in the courtyard in future ceremonies while coffee and refreshments will continue to follow the Memorial Ceremony sponsored by AHEPA Chapter#64.

AHEPA Chapter #64 also appreciates all Ahepans who have participated in the ceremonies dedicated for the AHEPA Day - Memorial Service all these past annual times of remembrance. A Trisagion Service usually is celebrated immediately following the Divine Liturgy. (approximately 11:30 am) in the Cathedral Court Yard. This Trisagion Service is in honor of our dearly departed Brother AHEPANS and all past and current Military Veterans of our Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Community. The Trisagion Service would have been celebrated by Fr. Michael E. Varvarelis, Cathedral Dean, along with Fr. Aaron Gilbert. The posting of a Memorial Wreath would have followed the service with several officials speaking for the occasion including our AHEPAN Chapter #64’s own brother Colonel Vasilis Bozoudis.

Commemoration of “AHEPA & Memorial Day” at the Greek Orthodox Church

“Father Michael, Father Aaron, Honorable Judge Ed Marsico of the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas, District Marshal Dr. Michael Billys, District Warden Christ Megoulas, President George Spanos, esteemed Parish Council members, President William Kaldes of AHEPA my fellow brothers of AHEPA Chapter #64, and parishioners of the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Happy Memorial Day!

On behalf of the Hellenic Army General Staff, I would like to recognize and honor all

those military, men and women, who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to this great

nation of the United States of America.

It is our continuing duty and obligation to Honor and Remember the departed

AHEPAN Brothers, and all past and current Military Veterans of our Holy Trinity Greek

Orthodox Community, on this Memorial Day.

Greece has played an important role to the national security interests of the United

States. The United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Greece, have been some of the United

States’ most loyal and trusted Allies. Greece and the United States have long-standing

historical and political ties, shared democratic values, and participation as Allies, during

World War I and II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Persian Gulf War, and the War on

Terror.

Today, the two nations continue to have strong National Security Collaboration in the

Eastern Mediterranean and in the Balkans. The democratic principles of ancient Hellenism

inspired the Founding Fathers of these United States, and the AHEPA Founders in 1922.

AHEPA has an impressive history in educating the American public about the historic

friendship between Greece and the United States.

Memorial Day is an important day for both the United States and Greece. I am

personally deeply honored to stand with you today, commemorating the sacrifices of those

who have laid down their lives, in service to this Nation.

“Our way of life has been shaped and made possible by those who have served, and by

those who were lost”. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. This is the reality of military service, and

this is what we commemorate on each and every Memorial Day.

I want to acknowledge and thank especially all my fellow AHEPA Brothers, as well

as all Americans, Hellenes, and the many Greek Friends and Americans with Greek

heritage. May our departed veterans Rest in Peace and May their Memory Be Eternal.”
