Organization of Islamic cooperation(OIC) “The collective voice of the Muslim world”

Above stated is the statement that is the believe of this organization

OIC is an international Islamic organization that works to

“Safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony”

Need Of OIC The fall and fail of ottoman empire (sultanate

usmania) and caliphate after world war 1 (1918) created a sense of insecurity in Muslims and they started thinking about any PAN-ISLAMIC organization.

But the defeat of Arabs by Israelians in six day war (1967) proved to be a ignition cause that caused finally the establishment of organization of Islamic cooperation.

Establishment of OIC After getting ignited in 1967 it took only two

years for Muslims to create an international organization for their interest.

On 25 September 1969 in Rabat capital of morocco leaders of many Islamic state gathered up and established organization of Islamic conference (OIC)

According to its charter OIC aims to preserve Islamic, social and economic values. Promote solidarity amongst member states; increase cooperation in social, economic, cultural, scientific, and political areas uphold international peace and security and advance studies specially in field of science and technology.

New name and emblemOn 28 June 2011 during the 38th council of

foreign ministers meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan the organization changed its name from organization of Islamic conference to organization of Islamic cooperation and the OIC also changed its logo at this time

STRUCTURE•Islamic summit: The largest meeting attended by

kings and heads of states. convenes every 3 years•Islamic conference of foreign ministers:

It is hold once a year for

implementation of ideas given during Islamic summit

•Secretary general: Elected by foreign minister for

5 years. Current secretary general: Iyad bin amin madani.

MEMBERS•OIC has got 57 members in total from

which•26 are from Asia•27 from Africa•2 from Europe•2 from South America

LIST OF SOME OF THE NOTABLE WORKS

•OIC created the Cairo declaration of human right in Islam

•In 1999 OIC adopted the OIC convention on combating international terrorism

•OIC had a dispute with India over matter of Kashmir

•9th meeting of PUOICM at Kuala lumpur decided to stop Israel from continuing its excavation on western wall near Al-Aqsa mosque third holiest place of Muslim

•Islamabad meeting of 25 February 2007 was to stop Palestine and Israel conflict.

•Observer state dispute, well it remained unconcluded but it was over conflict Egypt, Iran and UAE as they have demanded removal of “Turkish Cypriot state” .
