(together)e u r o p e a n a s o u n d s . e u
This workshop
WP2 will support discovery and use by improving
metadata through innovative methods including
semantic enrichment and crowdsourcing.
It will deliver a crowdsourcing infrastructure to support
several applications aimed at culture vultures and
snackers. It will help Data Providers to deploy these tools
among their end-users. It will organize at least six
GLAM-Wiki Edit-a-Thons throughout Europe. And it will
explore the possibilities of Music Information Retrieval.
Role of partners: Lead by NISV with EF, NTUA, AIT, NET7 and
Shift as technical partners and all Data Providers as users.
Wikimedia chapters throughout Europe are external partners.

WP2: Enrichment & participation
NISV will facilitate, in collaboration with
Wikimedia chapters, the organisation in
at least six countries of so-called 'edit-a-
thons' in year two and three of the
project. Wikimedia chapters will be
encouraged to apply for financial
support to host events that will add
contextual information on music to
Wikipedia, which can be then linked to
the content on Europeana.e u r o p e a n a s o u n d s . e u
T2.3: Wikimedia partnership 1/2
The GLAMwiki toolset, as developed by EF in
collaboration with the Wikimedia chapters of UK,
Netherlands and France, will be used to batch
upload/download metadata and open (format
and licence) music content to Wikimedia
Commons.
EF will develop and execute a marketing and
communications plan to support the chapters
and to ensure maximum visibility of these events
to various stakeholders. We have already
secured participation of four Wikimedia
Chapters.e u r o p e a n a s o u n d s . e u
T2.3: Wikimedia partnership 2/2
On January the 10th the Netherlands Institute
of Sound and Vision organised the very first
Europeana Sounds edit-a-thon.
This event was organised in collaboration
with Wikimedia Nederland and Xeno-canto,
the online community for on collecting all
existing bird sounds. The edit-a-thon aimed to
allow participants to share ornithological
knowledge and to upload bird sounds to
relevant articles on Wikipedia.

• What would be possible topics for Europeana
Sounds Edit-a-Thons?
• What types of audiences could be invited to
these Edit-a-Thons?
• What types of contextualisation (of content)
within Wikipedia would your institution be
interested in?
• Are there existing links with Wikimedia
chapters of volunteers and your institution?
• What are potential locations for a Europeana
Sounds Edit-a-Thon?
