Welcome to UVic Engineering !
Time Management, GPA
How do I survive the first year?
How do I take-‐‑off in my professional life?
Over the years, many started their bright careers from here!
LLast year 23% did not proceed to 2nd
year!! Some others suffered years due to low GPA from the first year!!
I'm in 1st Year !WOW!! Its busy.
It could be Heaven or Hell. How do I be better prepared?
Time Management
GPA
Time Management Make It or Break It
A New and Different Life: o This is a new environment! o New tasks: Laundry? Cooking? o New social structure
Different Learning Expectations o More materials covered over a shorter period of time o Learning by yourself (more materials and less classroom coverage) o Becoming a professional
Not Easy to “Undo” o Make a Weekly Study Schedule o Plan for unexpected events

GPA -‐‑ a ticket to failure, suffering, or success during 1st year
• Know how to calculate GPA (Grade Point Average) for all courses • Get the best GPA possible

Learning Requires . . .
Repetition, discussion, practice Ø Create a study group
Ø Make sure everyone in the group can do everything Ø Never put your name on something that you did not do
Ø Attend instructor office hours / Go to Help Desks Ø Introduce yourself and talk about the course Ø If you don't have a question, just come and listen
Ø Do homework that is assigned Ø Make sure you can do anything
(not just the questions that were on the assignment.)
Studying & Time Management
Ø Plan your week
Ø Schedule every course Ø Don't delay the difficult ones!
Ø Plan for the unexpected
Ø When everything is done:
Schedule in a little fun
