    EXT. BATES MOTEL/HOUSE- NIGHT

A ferocious thunderstorm ensues in front of BatesMotel/House. Lightening illuminates the sky and hail beatsdown on the motel’s tin roof.

The Bates House is barely visible in the background. Acloser look shows all the lights are off.

    INT. FRUIT CELLAR - NIGHT

The fruit cellar projects one small light. The rest of thecellar is dark and cluttered with jars preserving smallorgans, stuffed animals, and books.

A CLINKING of metal echos in the cellar. In the only litcorner, a WOMAN sits on the cement floor with her arms aboveher head, chained.

    She’s crying. Begging.

    WOMANListen to me, Norm-

Lightening flashes, followed by a thunderous BANG. ASILHOUETTE, one of a small frame in a tight dress, stands atthe taxidermy table gripping a bottle of whiskey. Unfinishedwork sprawls on the surface: a dead squirrel, a half-sewn

    raccoon, shears.

    SILHOUETTE(in a high-pitched voice)

We told you to stay out of it.

WOMANHe was lying to me. I needed toknow the truth or I couldn’t helphim.

SILHOUETTEWe didn’t ask for your help.

    WOMANThat’s what I do!

The Silhouette moves towards the chained Woman on theground, dragging the whiskey bottle around the table.

    WOMANPlease! Please, don’t. I won’t tellanyone, I swear. I can help you--

A screeching laugh comes from the Silhouette. The whiskeybottle shakes as it reaches full, pink lips.

SILHOUETTEOh, darling. Don’t be so dramatic. That’s what they all say.

    WOMANNo. I-I swear I w-won’t.

A pair of heels stumble as they step into the light that iscast over the Woman. The Silhouette crouches down in frontof her.

NORMA LOUISE BATES, early 40s, stares at the Woman; her eyesare focused, angry, and unforgiving. The Woman cries harder.

WOMANPlease. I’ll do anything--anythingyou want. I have money I cantransfer--

Norma Louise grabs the Woman by her tattered white blouseand holds up the shears that had been on the table.

    NORMA BATES(yelling)

    Shut up! Shut up now!

The Woman looks up at Norma Louise, chained and defenseless,as her reality sets in.

NORMA LOUISEYou will never take advantage of myboy like that again.

Norma Louise takes one last swig of whiskey before tossingthe empty bottle to the side. She gives the Woman a

demeaning stare as she points the scissors at the Woman’sthroat.

    ALEX ROMEROBecause--

He leads Dylan further down the front steps.

ALEX ROMERO (CONT’D)I have cash stashed. Don’t ask mewhy, don’t ask me how. But it’simportant that your mother doesn’t

    know about it.

DYLAN BATESAnd you used that money to make itlook like Dr. Edwards took a bunchof money and ran off.

ALEX ROMEROYes, under a fake account. I’ll usewhat I have left to pay her back. But now the money doesn’t look likeit’s tied to me. Understand?

Norma Louise suddenly opens the front door.

NORMA LOUISEWhat are you two doing out here?Get inside, dinner’s ready!

ALEX ROMEROWe’ll be right in, sweetheart.

Norma blows him a kiss and closes the door.
