Student Life - Where You Belong

In addition to a rigorous academic program, students havemany opportunities to participate in a variety of co-curricularopportunities.  We have a variety of athletic teams thatparticipate in competition against other TDSB schools inbasketball, soccer, cross country, ice hockey, softball, trackand field, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.  We host a schoolwide performance that allows all of our students toparticipate but allows those with a bit of dramatic flair to takeon lead roles.  A choir performs at assemblies and otherschool events.  Students are also offered the opportunity toparticipate in clubs such as Chess, Kids Lit, Dance, Yoga,Art and Mind during the lunch hour.  As children movethrough our school, they are provided with manyopportunities to become school leaders through theirinvolvement as lunch monitors, office helpers and studentannouncers.  Large fundraisers such as  the Terry Fox Runhelp develop student awareness to charity fundraisers whilethe grassroots fundraisers such as class organized bookdrives help the students make a difference for others.

What Sets Us Apart

As a small school, a genuine sense of community isdeveloped among our student body.  Through our learningbuddies, older students have the opportunities to interactwith younger students on a variety of projects.  Our studentsare provided with arts enrichment projects that allow them towork with professional artists on a special project.  Ourstudents are exposed to a variety of genres in the arts fromopera to ballet, puppetry to multi-media productions. Scientists in the Schools makes the science the children arelearning more real through hands-on interactive workshopsa couple of times a year.  Diverse learning experiencesenrich our students' learning opportunities.

Parent and Community Engagement

Our parents are committed to providing resources and enrichmentactivities for all of our students.  Many of our parents volunteer toassist with safe school arrival, our library, organizing birthdaypencils, lice detection and as grade parents.  A variety of parent runcommittees are organized to facilitate fundraising activities, scienceenrichment and arts enrichment.  Regular family movie nights, afamily skate night and our annual Mayfair event bring our communitytogether outside the regular school program.  These type of eventsfurther encourage and support our sense of community.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice, access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
