Definition:

Medical condition in which bones become brittle and weak.

Primary osteoporosis

Osteogenesis imperfecta

It is an inherited disorder which causes bones to be extremely fragile.

Idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis

Skeletal disorder that causes thinning of the bones usually beginning at childhood

Risk factors:● Factors you can’t change: gender, age,

ethnicity, family history, and history of previous fracture

● Factors you can change: poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking, mediation, and low body weight

Screening and Diagnosis:

DXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry)
