FIVE DIFFERENT BAPTISMS IN MMLJ/BC

Multiple OT baptisms (washings) of the

Jews.

OT Baptism of John for Israel (Matthew

3:1-6).

Christ’s baptism of suffering and baptism

of death (Luke 12:50).

Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11).

NT baptism of Christ (Mark 16:15-16).

Don’t confuse these different Old and

New Testament baptisms!

2

ONLY “ONE” NEW TESTAMENT “BAPTISM…

Only one commanded by Christ for salvation.

“14Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:15-16).

3

ONLY “ONE” NEW TESTAMENT “BAPTISM”…

One NT “baptism” of Christ in Acts 2-Rev. 22.

“2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;5One Lord, one faith, one baptism,6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all” (Ephesians 4:2-6).

WHO WAS JOHN THE BAPTIST?

“69And hath raised up an horn of salvation

for us in the house of his servant

David; 70As he spake by the mouth of his

holy prophets, which have been since the

world began: 71That we should be saved

from our enemies, and from the hand of

all that hate us;72To perform the mercy promised to our

fathers, and to remember his holy

covenant” (Luke 1:69-72). Saviour of OT

ISRAEL!!!

JACKSON’S DISREGARD FOR COVENANTS

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John belong to

the Old not the New Testament – therefore

Jackson disregards the doctrinal

differences in the two covenants!

Jackson attempts to add together the

doctrine of both the Old and New

Testaments! ERROR!

“4Christ is become of no effect unto you,

whosoever of you are justified by the law;

ye are fallen from grace” (Galatians 5:4).

JACKSON’S DISREGARD FOR COVENANTS

Jackson and other “traditionalists”

disregard differences in doctrine in the

covenants!

One cannot understand the Bible if they

do not understand the difference between

the Old and New Testaments!

One cannot scripturally teach the Bible if

they

do not understand the difference

between the Old and New Testaments!

JOHN WAS NOT NT SAVIOUR!

God bound John’s work to OT Israel!

“76And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,79To give light to them that sit in darkness and inthe shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel” (Luke 1:76-80).

IN MMLJ DID JOHN THE BAPTIST HAVE THE

“KEYS” TO THE NEW TESTAMENT KINGDOM?

*Did John the baptist preach the New Testament

“gospel” of the death, burial and resurrection of

Christ in MMLJ/before the cross?

*Did John the baptist establish the New

Testament church of Christ in MMLJ/before the

cross?

*Did John’s baptism produce New Testament

Christians/Church in MMLJ/before the cross?

IN MMLJ DID JOHN THE BAPTIST HAVE THE

“KEYS” TO THE NEW TESTAMENT KINGDOM?

QUESTION: WERE THOSE ISRAELITES

BAPTIZED BY JOHN THE BAPTIST

SAVED/ADDED TO THE NT CHURCH IN

MMLJ/BEFORE THE CROSS? – BEFORE

ACTS 2! Yes, says Wayne Jackson!

DID JOHN’S MISSION, MESSAGE AND

BAPTISM PRODUCE NT CHRISTIANS?

WHEN WERE THE APOSTLES

BAPTIZED?

WHAT IS JACKSON’S POINT?

A futile effort to get the OT law on

marriage, divorce and marriage in Mathew

19 into the New Testament! 1Corinthians

7 NT doctrine!

He preaches on “living in adultery,

adulterous marriages, innocent-guilty

parties, scriptural-unscriptural

divorces/marriages, and remarry and

remarriage” and other fictitious marital

relationships – none mentioned in the NT!

IN MMLJ DID JOHN THE BAPTIST HAVE THE

“KEYS” TO THE NEW TESTAMENT KINGDOM?

NO! THE KEYS TO THE NEW TESTAMENT KINGDOM OF

CHRIST WERE PROMISED ONLY TO PETER – AFTER

JOHN’S DEATH!!!

“17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art

thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not

revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon

this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell

shall not prevail against it.19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of

heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall

be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose

on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:17-19).

WHY DID GOD SEND JOHN TO OT ISRAEL?

John’s mission was to”restore” back to faithfulness to God and the law those Jews who had become unfaithful to their covenant with Jehovah.

“1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand…5Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, 6And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance” (Matthew 3:1-2, 5-8).

WHY DID GOD SEND JOHN TO ISRAEL?

“Restoration” - forgiveness – “remission of sins”

John’s baptism was for “remission” of Jewish sins – “salvation” under the OT law of Moses in Israel!

“77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel” (Luke 1:77-80).

GOD SENT JOHN TO SAVE OT ISRAEL…

“67And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,68Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,69And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;70As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:71That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;72To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;73The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,74That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,75In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

GOD RAISED UP JOHN...IN ISRAEL!

“76And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,79To give light to them that sit in darkness and inthe shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel” (Luke 1:76-80).

THEY NAMED HIM….JOHN!

“59And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.60And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.61And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.62And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.63And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John” (Luke 1:59-63).

JACKSON ARGUES…

“First, there is no clear definitive statement

regarding this theme in the New Testament

record.” None to support Jackson!

“One must, therefore, assemble all the

evidence available, and then attempt to draw

what what he perceives to be a reasonable

conclusion.” Jackson makes his own

doctrine!

JACKSON ARGUES…

“John’s mission: make ready a people prepared for the Lord (Luke1:17).” For the OT Messiah! Not for NT SAVIOUR!

“15For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.16And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.17And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (Luke 1:15-17).

JACKSON ARGUES…

John’s OT baptism in MMLJ/BC “prepared a people for the Lord.”

Why was Jesus baptized of John?

“13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness” (Matthew 3:13-15).

JACKSON ARGUES…

“Where is the evidence that anyone who had been baptized by John was required to be baptized following Pentecost (Acts 2).”

“45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,46And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.48And ye are witnesses of these things.49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:45-49).

PETER SAYS APOSTLES BAPTIZED…

Christ commanded all to – be baptized…

”14Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen” (Mark 16:14-20).

PETER SAYS APOSTLES BAPTIZED…

Paul baptized…“15But the Lord said unto him, Go thy

way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my

name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of

Israel: 16For I will show him how great things he must

suffer for my name’s sake.17And Ananias went his way, and entered into the

house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul,

the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the

way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest

receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy

Ghost.18And immediately there fell from his eyes as it

had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and

arose, and was baptized” (Acts 9:15-18)..

PETER SAYS APOSTLES BAPTIZED…

Peter baptized…” 20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:22Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him” (1Peter 3:20-22).

JACKSON ARGUES…

“Though the kingdom of Christ was not fully set in

motion until the day of Pentecost, it was certainly in

a preparatory phrase during the Lord’s personal

ministry.”

NO “PREPARATOY PHASE” – BIBLE!

“42And now when the even was come, because

it was the preparation, that is, the day before

the sabbath,43Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable

counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom

of God…” (Mark 15:43).

JACKSON ARGUES…

“John’s message was, “repent for the kingdom

of heaven is at hand” (Matthew3:2). Does not

this imply that their surrender to his “baptism

of repentance” would grant them entrance into

that “kingdom” when it arrived?”

“NO! For all Old Testament “prophets”

preached “repentance” to sinful Jews under the

law of Moses in Israel who anticipated the

coming of the Messiah and a new kingdom

when the New Testament age began (Isaiah 2:2;

Daniel 2:44).

OT PROPHECY-COMING OF NT KINGDOM

“2And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto Isaiah 2:2).

“44And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever” (Daniel 2:44).

OT “FORGIVENESS OF SIN”…

“John baptized “for the forgiveness of sin” (Mark 1:4).

All OT sin in Israel waited for the cross!!!

“15And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.16For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator” (Hebrews 9:15-17).

JACKSON DEPENDS ON SECTARIANS…

Jackson quotes William Larkin, professor of

New Testament and Greek at Presbytarian

Columbia Biblical Seminary to prove his

position on John’s baptism.

Wonder if Jackson will accept Larkin’s

position on Ephesians 4:4-6 and the “one

church” equals many denominations?

JOHN’S OT BAPTISM NOT IN FORCE…

Before the “great commission”…

“18And Jesus came and spake unto them,

saying, All power is given unto me in heaven

and in earth. 19Go ye therefore, and teach all

nations, baptizing them in the name of the

Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy

Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things

whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo,

I am with you alway, even unto the end of the

world. Amen” (Matthew 28:18-20).

JOHN’S BAPTISM NOT FOR…

“Remission” of alien sins…all baptized by John were already Old Covenant Israelites!

“21Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,22And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased” (Luke 3:21-22).

JOHN’S OT BAPTISM DID NOT…

Place people into the death of Christ as does

NT baptism – because Christ not dead!

“3Know ye not, that so many of us as were

baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized

into his death?4Therefore we are buried with him by

baptism into death: that like as Christ was

raised up from the dead by the glory of the

Father, even so we also should walk in

newness of life” (Romans 6:3-4).

JOHN’S BAPTISM DID NOT PRODUCE…

NEW TESTAMENT “CHRISTIANS”… “1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at

Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts

came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2He

said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since

ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so

much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3And

he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized?

And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4Then said Paul,

John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance,

saying unto the people, that they should believe on him

which should come after him, that is, on Christ

Jesus. 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the

name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his

hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and

they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7And all the

men were about twelve” (Acts 19:1-7).

38

JOHN’S BAPTISM NOT…

For NT salvation, for there was no NT

Savior in the OT age of MMLJ – before the

cross!

No NT salvation as long as OT was in

force!

No NT salvation as long as OT sabbath,

tithing, animal sacrifice, worship in

Jerusalem temple,

and while more than 600 commandments

of the law of Moses were still in force!

No NT “grace” as long as OT “law” in

Produce a new NT plan of salvation!

Turn John’s OT Baptism into NT Baptism!

Deny the “one baptism” of the NT.

Teach doctrine unknown to Christ, Holy

Spirit!

Reject the doctrine of God!

Lead brethren astray from NT truth!

Cause souls to be lost!
