Social Sense: Building Social Skills in Children with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and Learning Disabilitiesby Tara Delaney, ms, OTr/l and mary c. hamrick, mA, ccc-slPThe Social Sense® Program combines the viewpoints and experiences of an occupational therapy and speech pathology team. During the last decade the team has created and implemented lesson plans that utilize sensory based activities for teaching complex social skills. This step-by-step program can be used when working with social groups or performing therapy sessions in both the school and clinical setting. This practical book addresses social communication and pragmatic language goals as well as adaptations for sessions with students

from kindergarten through high school.

The Autism Playbook for Teens: Imagination-Based Mindfulness Activities to Calm Yourself, Build Independence, and Connect with Others 2014by irene mchenry, PhD and carol moog, PhDThis book offers a unique, strengths-based approach to help teens with autism spectrum (including Asperger’s Syndrome) develop social skills, strengthen communication, and thrive. The activities contained in each chapter are custom-designed to work with the unique perspectives, sensory processing, neurological strengths and challenges that teens with autism bring to their encounters with the social world. By engaging in these activities, teens will gain an authentic awareness of their surroundings, leading to better social interaction that is also rewarding, interesting, and fun.

This interactive workshop combines lecture and hands-on exercises to provide an understanding of sandtray play therapy and how to incorporate it into your practice. You will learn how to delve deeper into client issues and facilitate change in the process through the creation of sand trays, which provide a nonthreatening environment to bring about connections and introspection. You will have an extensive, hand’s on experience of building your own sandtray and facilitating the sandplay process for others. Clinical issues and case vignettes will be included with self-examination exercises. Tools of the

trade, from miniature figurines to what type of sand will be highlighted with a brief description of symbolism and arrangement. The workshop will include both non-directive and directive techniques, from participating in a family sandtray session to learning how to conduct individual sandtray sessions.

You will leave with a handful of interventions, including creative play-based strategies that can be incorporated into any practice, setting and with any clientele. These techniques will strengthen your relationship with your clients, build trust and resilience, and decrease anxiety. This workshop will open the door to a new method of developing a therapeutic relationship and facilitating change for you.

Hassle-Free Cancellation Policy: If you contact us before the event date, you can exchange for a DVD or CD/digital manual package on the subject (self-study continuing education credit may be available), a certificate to attend another seminar, or receive a tuition refund less a $30 cancel fee.
