Death Zone The majority of children injured or killed in

pupil transportation are not injured or killed on the bus, but outside the bus.

Most are struck by motorists who fail to stop for the flashing red lights and extended stop signs.

The “Death Zone” is the area immediately in front of and around the bus.

Alabama’s NEW School Bus Stop Law (Effective October 1, 2006)

“The driver of a vehicle upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children on a highway, on a roadway, on school property, or upon a private road shall bring the vehicle to a complete stop before reaching the school bus…”

Requirements to Legally Drive a Church or School Bus You will not be able to drive a church bus

or school bus with a standard “Class D” driver license.

To legally drive a passenger bus, you must pass the CDL test and have a “P” and “S” endorsement.
