Our Class Economy
By: Mrs. Chappell and Mrs. Lane
How does a classroom economy work?
Every student will receive an account book.
You will receive credits throughout the week for good behavior and participating in classroom responsibilities.
You will receive debits throughout the week for breaking rules and not participating in classroom responsibilities.
You will be paid every other Friday and you will be able to spend your money at our classroom store.
What is an account book?
It will be a small notebook that will hold all of your credits and debits for the week.
Your teacher is the only one that will put tally marks in your account book. If you are caught adding your own credits, you will receive a debit for being dishonest.
How will I earn credits? You can earn credits by having classroom jobs. You can earn credits by following the rules. You can earn credits by doing your homework. You can earn credits by doing well on your AR
tests. There will be many opportunities for you to earn
credits throughout the week!
How much will I earn for credits?
Student of the Week - $10 Caught being good - $1 Make a 100 on AR test - $2 Make a 90 on AR test - $1 Helpers – various amounts
Bringing in signed paperwork - $5
Doing homework all week - $5
Caught being good by another teacher - $5
25% of AR goal - $5
50% of AR goal - $10
75% of AR goal - $15
100% of AR goal - $20
How will I earn debits? Debits will be given for misbehaving and
breaking the rules. We will have a poster that tells how much will be
debited for breaking rules. Earning debits throughout the day will result in a
lowered conduct grade in your homework folder. You can see that this student only earned $3 in
debits. The debits were subtracted from his weekly total.
How much will debits cost me?
Talking - $1 Out of seat - $1 Not having supplies - $1 Out of line - $1 Misbehaving in line - $1 Talking out - $1 Disrespectful - $5
Talking back - $5 Playing in library - $5
What will our bank look like?
This is similar to how our bank will be.
The banker will pay you after totaling your account book.
Everyone will get a chance to be the banker.
When and how will we shop?
You will be allowed to shop every other Friday. Each container will be labeled with the amount
each item cost on the outside. You will be given a specific amount of time to
shop. You can choose to save your money if you want to
try and purchase a larger item later.
What do the cashiers do? The cashiers will help you total your
order. You will pay the cashiers and they
will give you any change that you might have.
Everyone will have a chance to be a cashier.
What is a shopping log? A shopping log will help you keep up
with how much you are spending. The cashiers will check your
shopping log when you pay. Dishonesty will result in debits to
begin your next week. That means you will begin without any money.
