We design and manufacture metallic bellows and expansion joints. These are important components in many piping systems. They are used extensively in engine exhaust systems, district heating, steam distribution and power plants as well as in the steel, nuclear, chemical and petrochemical industries.
Expansion joints are flexible compo-nents included as part of industrial pipework systems. Expansion joints reduce the stresses generated by thermal fluctuations and other mechanical movements so prolonging the service life of piping systems, particularly those which convey high temperature media such as steam or exhaust gases. Additionally, they are used to reduce pipe loads at connec-tions to sensitive equipment such as pumps, steam turbines etc.
We provide high-quality customized expansion joints in sizes DN 15 to DN 6000. Expansion joints up to DN 12000 can be supplied unas- sembled in segments for easier shipment and installation.

A wide range of materials can be used for the manufacture of bellows including austenitic stainless steels (300 series), duplex, aluminium, titanium and high-nickel alloys such as Inconel, Incoloy, Hastelloy, Monel etc.

Since the acquisition of John Cardwell Ltd. in 2008, both companies have combined their resources and know-how for the benefit of our customers. Nevertheless, we still operate as individual entities. The Group employs around 150 highly-skilled people and has extended its production capacity both in terms of machinery and human resources. As a consequence of the acquisition the group has production facilities in both Denmark and the United Kingdom.

Belman is a member of the association EURO-QUALIFLEX, and on behalf of the Danish Standards Foundation we participate in the European Technical Committee for EN 14917, regulating the calculation, design and manufacturing of steel expansion joints and bellows. Furthermore, we have been registered in Achilles JQS, Sellihca and FPAL. The EN ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards have already been imple-mented at our company and we are currently working towards official accreditation within these norms.
DesignWe are able to offer our customers steel expansion joints calculated and designed according to several different design codes stated bellow. The required solutions can be supplied with CE-marking in compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC). Our design process includes the following: l Calculation according to EN 13445,

TestingNon-destructive testing is performed according to the project requirements which may include: Radiographic examination, hydrostatic pressure testing, air leak and air jet testing, helium leak testing, dye penetrant examination, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle examination and positive material identification (PMI).

Pipe work designIn addition to technical consulting concerning the selection of the optimal expansion joint type, its location in the pipework system, installation advice etc. we can also assist with pipework design and stress analysis (FEA). Pipe- work design and stress analysis is performed with the help of recognized software as Rohr2, Caesar and ANSYS.
On-site installation servicesInstallation of metallic expansion joints, and in particular “clamshell” repair bellows require a high level of expertise. For this reason we have a service team of highly-skilled, experienced installers
ready to support our customers with installations on-site. Our service team is experienced in a wide range of site conditions and work in compliance with adapted safety regulations.
InspectionIn addition to installation work our service team carries out inspections of existing compensators. Inspection reports contain comments on the unit’s condition along with recommendations for improvements, repair or remedial procedures including an action plan for potential replacement work.
Refurbish/ repair existing compen-satorsWe are often asked to perform refurbishing work on expansion joints by removing the existing bellows elements and replacing them with new ones. This practice eliminates additional costs in connection with manufacturing of new pipe work components and any restraining structure. It is often used as a fast solution to get the plant back on line quickly when a bellows element in an expansion joint has reached the end of its working life.
