Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor El Papa Francisco es un regalo para la Iglesia. Además de ser un

pastor tan maravilloso, es también un desafiante profesor. En

Marzo pasado, él escribió en una reunión específica a los líderes

de las Iglesia de los Países Latinoamericanos que estaban consi-

derando y reflexionando en el " compromiso indispensable de los

fieles laicos en la vida pública de los países latinoamericanos"

Esta carta es obviamente no sólo para América Latina sino que

puede enviarse a cualquier país. Es una fuerte reprensión a los

ministros ordenados y consagrados religiosos que podrían llevar-

los a una actitud de superioridad sobre los laicos. Es un correctivo

que un buen padre da con palabras de aliento Estos son algunos

aspectos destacados de la carta:

Un padre no puede concebirse a sí mismo sin sus hijos...Un pas-

tor no puede concebirse a si mismo sin un rebaño, que él está

llamado a servir. El párroco es el pastor de un pueblo y el pueblo

lo necesita a él, dentro... Mirando al Pueblo de Dios es que re-

cordamos que todos entramos en la Iglesia como laicos. El pri-

mer Sacramento, que sella para siempre nuestra identidad, y del

que siempre debemos de estar orgullosos, es el Bautismo...Nadie

es bautizado como sacerdote o como obispo. Nosotros hemos sido

bautizados como laicos y es una señal indeleble que nadie nunca

puede cancelar. Es bueno que recordemos que la Iglesia no es

una élite de sacerdotes, personas consagradas ni obispos, sino

que formamos al Santo Pueblo fiel de Dios. Olvidando esto nos

conduce a varios riesgos y deformaciones en nuestra experiencia,

tanto personal como en la comunidad, del Ministerio que la Igle-

sia nos ha confiado... El Santo Pueblo fiel de Dios es ungido con

la gracia del Espíritu Santo y por lo tanto, en el momento de

reflexionar, pensar, evaluar y discernir, debemos estar muy aten-

tos a esta unción.

[El Santo Padre llama " clericalismo " a una de las mayores defor-

maciones en la Iglesia en Latinoamérica y sin duda en otros luga-

res] Clericalismo, lejos de inspirar varias contribuciones y pro-

puestas, poco a poco apaga la llama profética de que toda la Igle-

sia es llamada a dar testimonio en el corazón de su genta "... Papa

Paulo VI utilizaba una expresión que considero fundamental: la fe

de nuestro pueblo, sus orientaciones, búsquedas, deseos, anhelos,

cuando ellos son escuchados o guiados, terminan mostrándonos la

verdadera presencia del Espíritu. Confiamos en nuestra gente, en

su memoria y su sentido, confiamos en que el Espíritu Santo actúa

en y con él, y que este Espíritu no es simplemente la " propiedad "

de la jerarquía eclesial...

En medio de nuestra gente nos pide salvaguardar dos memorias.

La memoria de Jesucristo y la memoria de nuestros antepasados.

La fe que hemos recibido es un regalo que nos ha llegado en mu-

chos casos de la mano de nuestras madre y de nuestras abue-

las...Es esta fe que nos ha acompañado muchas veces en los mu-

chos avatares de nuestro viaje. Perder esta memoria significa

desarraigarnos nosotros mismos del lugar que venimos y no sa-

ber adónde vamos. Esto es fundamental: cuando arrancan de raíz

a un laico de su fe, de su origen; cuando arrancan de raíz al San-

to Pueblo fiel de Dios, los desarraigan de su identidad bautismal

y así lo privan de la gracia del Espíritu Santo. Nuestro papel,

nuestra alegría, la alegría del pastor residen precisamente en

ayudar y alentar, como muchos han hecho antes que nosotros:

madres, abuelas y padres, los verdaderos agentes de la histo-

ria...Los laicos son parte del Santo Pueblo fiel de Dios y por lo

tanto, son los protagonistas de la Iglesia y el mundo. Estamos

llamados a servirlos a ellos, no a hacer uso de ellos.

From the Pastor’s Desk Pope Francis is such a gift to the Church. In addition to being

such a wonderful shepherd, he is also a challenging teacher. Last

March, he wrote to a specific gathering of Church leaders from

Latin American Countries that were considering and reflecting on

the “indispensable commitment of the lay faithful in the public

life of Latin American countries”. This letter is obviously not

just for Latin America but can be sent to any country. It is a

strong rebuke to ordained ministers and consecrated religious who

might carry an attitude of superiority over the laity. It is a correc-

tive that a good father gives accompanied with words of encour-

agement. Here are a few highlights of the letter:

A father cannot conceive of himself without his children. … A

pastor cannot conceive of himself without a flock, whom he is

called upon to serve. The pastor is the pastor of a people, and the

people need him within. …Looking at the People of God is re-

membering that we all enter the Church as laypeople. The first

sacrament, that which seals for ever our identity, and of which we

must always be proud, is baptism. … No-one is baptised a priest

nor a bishop. We have been baptised as laypeople and it is an

indelible sign that no-one can ever cancel. It is good for us to

remember that the Church is not an élite of priests, consecrated

people and bishops, but that we all form the Holy faithful People

of God. Forgetting this leads to various risks and deformations in

our experience, both personal and in the community, of the minis-

try the Church has entrusted to us. … The Holy faithful People of

God is anointed with the grace of the Holy Spirit, and therefore,

at the moment of reflecting, thinking, evaluating and discerning,

we must be very attentive to this anointment.

[The Holy Father calls “clericalism” one of the greatest deforma-

tions in the Church in Latin America and no doubt everywhere

else] Clericalism, far from inspiring various contributions and

proposals, gradually extinguishes the prophetic flame of which

the entire Church is called to bear witness in the heart of her peo-

ples”.… Pope Paul VI uses an expression that I consider funda-

mental: the faith of our people, its orientations, searches, desires,

yearnings, when they are heard and guided, end up showing us

the genuine presence of the Spirit. We trust in our People, in its

memory and sense, we trust that the Holy Spirit acts in and with

it, and that this Spirit is not merely the ‘property’ of the ecclesial

hierarchy. …

Amid our people we are asked to safeguard two memories. The

memory of Jesus Christ and the memory of our ancestors. The

faith we have received is a gift that has reached us in many cases

from the hands of our mothers and our grandmothers. … It is this

faith that has accompanied us many times in the many vicissitudes

of our journey. Losing this memory means uprooting ourselves

from the place we come from and then not knowing where we are

going. This is fundamental; when we uproot a layperson from his

or her faith, from that of his or her origins; when we uproot the

Holy faithful People of God, we uproot them from their baptismal

identity and thus deprive them of the grace of the Holy Spirit. Our

role, our joy, the joy of the pastor, resides precisely in helping

and encouraging, as many have done before us: mothers, grand-

mothers and fathers, the true agents of history. … The laity are

part of the Holy faithful People of God, and are therefore the pro-

tagonists of the Church and the world; we are called to serve

them, not to make use of them.
