INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners, It is August and we are about halfway through the season of summer. This time reminds me of the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. We celebrate this Feast on Tuesday. The Transfiguration was when the divinity of Jesus shone forth physically to his apostles, Peter, James and John. This was a change, a transformation of his physical appearance which they witnessed and which helped them to realize more his divine nature present along with his hu-man nature. They had climbed up the mountain and they were given the vision of this Trans-figuration which strengthens them in their faith and confidence to continue to follow Jesus.

The Feast of the Transfiguration can remind us of our journey in life. Jesus leads us through the different times that we experience in this world. We are now at the midpoint of summer. It is as if we have come up a mountain. Now we are on our way down to pass this season of the year and go on to the next season. Jesus spoke to his apostles about his death and resurrection on his way down the mountain after the Transfiguration. The apostles’ experience of his divinity gave them support and assurance for the rest of the journey with him. As we continue through summer 2019, let us ask the Lord to give us the strength and refreshment we need to follow him as his fervent disciples for the rest of the year.

USING OUR TIME WISELY A jar of honey lasts practically forever. The oldest jar of honey ever discovered was over five thousand years old. Honey is quite different from market-fresh produce, then; because most fruits and vegetables last only a few days, we treat them carefully. At this time of summer, we rush to find recipes for cherries and cucumbers so we won’t waste a single one. We wouldn’t feel that same urgency about honey. In our own way, we are as delightful and fragile as ripe produce. Today’s readings urge us not to spoil, but to make good use of our limited time on earth. Ecclesiastes reminds us that because God provides for us now and al-ways, we can manage our daily affairs without anxiety. Saint Paul encourages the Colossians to keep thoughts of heaven in everything they do, and Jesus himself asks us to treasure not earthly wealth, but God alone.

USANDO NUESTRO TIEMPO SABIAMENTE Un frasco con miel prácticamente dura por siempre. El frasco de miel más antiguo descubierto tenía casi más de cinco mil años de antigüedad. La miel es muy diferente de cualquier otro alimento producido; entonces porque muchas frutas y vegetales solo duran unos pocos días si las cuidamos. En este tiempo del verano, nos apresuramos a encontrar recetas para cerezas y pepinos para no desperdiciar ni uno solo. Pero no tendríamos la misma prisa para la miel. En nuestra propia manera, somos como una de esas frutas y vegetales frágiles y maduros. Las lecturas de hoy nos sugieren a no echarnos a perder, sino a hacer un buen uso de nuestros limitado tiempo en la tierra. El libro del Eclesiastés nos recuerda que ya que Dios provee para nosotros ahora y siempre, podemos administrar nuestros asuntos diarios sin ninguna ansiedad. San Pablo anima a los colosenses a mantener pensamientos del cielo en todo lo que hacen y Jesús mismo nos pide que no atesoremos riqueza terrenal sino solo a Dios.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos feligreses,

Es agosto y estamos a mitad de la temporada de verano. Este tiempo me recuerda la Fiesta de la Transfiguración del Señor. El martes celebramos esta fiesta. La Transfiguración fue cuando la divinidad de Jesús brilló físicamente a sus apóstoles, Pedro, Santiago y Juan. Este fue un cambio, una transformación de su apariencia física que presenciaron y que les ayudó a darse cuenta más de su naturaleza divina presente junto con su naturaleza humana. Habían escalado la montaña y se les dio la visión de esta Transfiguración que los fortaleció en su fe y confianza para continuar siguiendo a Jesús.

La Fiesta de la Transfiguración puede recordarnos nuestro viaje en la vida. Jesús nos guía a través de los diferentes momentos que experimentamos en este mundo. Ahora esta-mos en la mitad del verano. Es como si hubiéramos subido a una montaña. Ahora estamos bajando para pasar esta temporada del año y pasar a la próxima. Jesús habló a sus apóstoles sobre su muerte y resurrección en su camino hacia la montaña después de la Transfiguración. La experiencia de los apóstoles de su divinidad les dio apoyo y seguridad para el resto de la jornada con él. A medida que continuamos durante el verano de 2019, pidamos al Señor que nos dé la fuerza y la frescura que necesitamos para seguirlo como sus fervientes discípulos por el resto del año.
