SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Lent is a very special time because it invites us to
spiritually renew ourselves and give more time to
prayer. This year, during the Season of Lent, we
will have a special spiritual activity on Wednesday
evenings. We will have a Holy Hour with Vespers
and Benediction at 7:30 P.M. The Wednesdays are:
Feb. 21, 28, March 7, 14 and 21. Each week the
Holy Hour will be designated for a special intention
- for the sick, the homebound, etc. We invite all our
parishioners to take advantage of this opportunity to
grow spiritually and to come and spend time in pray-
er with our brothers and sisters.
LENTEN REGULATIONS
ABSTINENCE - All the faithful who have reached
14 years of age are required to abstain totally from
meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent.
FASTING - All the faithful between the ages of 18
and 59 inclusive are bound to fast on Ash Wednes-
day and Good Friday. This practice involves limit-
ing oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food
between meals. Light sustenance may also be taken
on two other occasions during the day.
ASH WEDNESDAY - For the first time since 1945
the observance of Ash Wednesday falls on February
14th. Some have inquired about the possibility of
receiving a dispensation from the laws of fasting and
abstinence. Our observances of these spiritual prac-
tices unites us with Catholics throughout the world
as we commence a time of prayer and penance in
preparation for Easter. For this reason, NO DIS-
PENSATION will be granted from these universal
norms. Catholics who desire to celebrate Valentine’s
Day should consider doing so on Tuesday, Febru-
ary 13th, a day traditionally associated with festive
celebrations.
HOLY NAME SOCIETY
The next Corporate Communion Mass will be Sun-
day, at 11:00 AM. The next meeting will be held on
Tuesday, February 13th at 7:30 PM in the cafeteria.
All men 18 years or older are included.
There will be NO CLASSES on Sunday,
February 18th. Classes resume on Febru-
ary 25th. Enjoy the winter break.

WORLD MARRIAGE DAY
Today we celebrate World Marriage Day, a
day to reflect on the importance and holiness of the
Sacrament of Matrimony. The Church recognizes that
marriage is a sacrament that couples live and celebrate
every day of their lives, as God has planned for them
to do. The love of husband and wife is a reflection of
Christ’s love for the Church. We ask God’s blessing on
all marriages. As a Catholic community, we support
and respect all our married couples. On this special
day, we invite all married couples to attend a World-
wide Marriage Encounter Weekend. On this weekend,
couples learn communication techniques that can en-
hance their marriage. The weekend is for every couple,
from newlyweds to those celebrating golden anniver-
saries.
